last night, My mother and I just finished watching an episode of that Bobby Brown reality show. My mother had been a fan of Whitney ever since she first hit the scene. Mom still has the LP versions of her first 2 albums. However, 20 minutes into the program, mom sat there quiet for a while and then said "that was embarrasing, I cannot watch anymore" and we changed the channel.

I agreed with mom. Those two were unbelievebly niggerish (pardon my french) round the countless white people they socialized with. Witney in particular has truly fallen from grace. And the one person we tuned in to see, Bobbi, the daughter, looked so uncomfortable and embarrassed when her parents did their little sing-and dance routines in public. And where did those other two children come from?! Oh Lord! Who else has turn their heads in shame towards this drugged duo?

Roxie,

I saw that show too. It's so not Whitney Houston. This woman is better than that. And like your mother, I know it through her songs. I wish she's the woman her songs potray her to be and not some drug addict. I hope she will be ok.

I watched a small snippet of this diaster. And the scary part about it is it seems that Whitney, not Bobby, is the source of many of their problems (absent Bobby's numerous baby mamas, of course).

Some people are leaders. Some people are followers. Whitney has proved she is a follower. I don't think she has "fallen from grace"--I just think we are seeing who she truly is. People can only "act" for so long.

Nevertheless, I wish she truly was the woman she was when she first arrived on the music scene. I guess she was too good to be true. Oh well.

Bobby is just....another dude from around the way. A dime a dozen. (I think that's how that saying goes?!!) :-)

Bobby is no different from a 10 year old imature boy. I don't know why Houston chose that looser.

Whitney Houston strikes me as a person who's very angry and resentful about SOMETHING. And it seems everything she's done over the years, perhaps starting with her marriage of Bobby, was done to vent out that anger.

My GUESS is on some level she never really appreciated or wanted to be the STAR she became.

Maybe it's because she didn't want the spotlight and this 'Evil Whitney' is a rebellion of it.

Or maybe she laments how her fame/wealth affected her relationships with her family/friends.

I may be in danger of my life here, but...I still fail to see why Whitney has so many loyal fans. Yes, she has (had?) a solid and strong voice. But I can't name a single song of hers that was not insipid schlock. She could sing. Her material was consistently horrid, top 40 bull.

Plus, I think many confuse her character from "The Bodyguard" with who she was in real life, and that's why her match with Bobby seems so mixed. I have heard that she was basically a "round the way girl" herself--her famous musical family members not withstanding.

What she--and Bobby--are doing right now is about the best that either can hope for given the likelihood of either of them making a comeback with their music. And given both their substance abuse issues. If a down and out metal rocker can do it and a down and out rap sidekick (and all manner of other minor and has-been celebs), then why not them?

I wouldn't be too embarrassed for them. Surely they know that being "normal" on air is not something that folks are going to tune into week to week.

Just hope any funds they make from this goes in their bank accounts and their kid's (or kids', in Bobby's case) college funds and not in their noses, lungs, or veins...

A recap just for you all. :-)
--------------------------
In this episode Bobby was off the chain. His drinking was off the chain as were his antics. This time around he was the one that needed taming and Whitney just couldn’t hang. It seems like a tag team effort. Each person takes a chance at losing it. I would hate to see them lose it at the same time. Bobby was extremely reminiscent of Jerome (the security guard) from the hit 1990’s television show Martin.

'Vette,

Ironically, I think you may have touch on why Houston has degraded herself so. Because I agree with you that much of her catalog is dreck. Minus her superb singing, most of that stuff would never have been published/recorded. And maybe Whitney knows/laments that.

Maybe she knows that perhaps she could have been her generation's Aretha Franklin but she did (or was compelled) to sell out herself and her talent.

Because, I repeat, she seems very ANGRY about life in general. That seems abundant clear.

I gottah admit though, the more I see of Bobby and Whitney, the more empathetic I am of them as individuals and as a couple. There's sort of an endearing pathos to the way these 2 (very flawed) people have clung to each other that I can't help rooting for.

Yvette, I never had a problem with Whitney's musical body of work but from the beginning of her career, I suspected her image was crafted. Cream rises to the top, but in Whitney's case, it was too rich for her blood and she sank to the bottom of the pitcher because although she was long on talent, she was short on class.

Maybe her "crafters" should have allowed her to be who she is and she would have felt more comfortable in her skin. But then again, I suspect that's what Mary J Blige's handlers thought they were doing and she hasn't fared so well...

'Vette,

Really? That's what you think about Mary J.? I don't know, I think she's come a long way given where she came from and her early professional and social struggles. And MJ did NOT have the support systems that Whitney (presumably) had.
