I'm so sad about his passing (so young!)...that I don't know what to say. But I'm glad he's out of his misery. I love his music and him so much. God bless him for blessing us.

One blogger gives this perspective on Luther's passing: http://thatcoloredfellasweblog.bloghorn.com/ What is you all's opinion about the "disgusted part? Me, I think it's been more of a "don't ask, don't tell" relationship between Luther and his African American fan base, but I could be wrong. Still, it is a shame, assuming Luther was gay, that he felt he could not fully be himself with all of us who so loved him... |

'Vette, I think most of Luther's fans past age 30 accepted A WHILE ago dude was gay. And while it might suit certain people interests for him to have admitted such, I think most of us accepted it was his life to live as he choose to. Besides, our leaving him be allowed us all to better enjoy his wondrous music. |

Agree. Remember when he lost all that weight and the HIV whispers started? But I have a question. Regarding your statement "our leaving him be allowed us all to better enjoy his wondrous music"--What do you mean? We couldn't have enjoyed his music had we known this about him? Or, we couldn't have enjoyed his music as much if he had to discuss such "accusations"? Or what? I don't know. I know how much I love to blab about my kids and husband and other family members and everyone else I love. I just can't imagine ever feeling as if I had to silence myself from refering to them because I was concerned about what others thought. I'm not talking about "privacy"--but about not even mentioning them at all--ever. For US, the best thing about Luther may have been his music. But he was more than the sum of his vocals. I guess I just hope that he was able to have a fulfilling personal life, despite the difficult public-private situation he may have felt himself (probably rightly) to be in... |

'Vette, I think SOME of us would not have enjoy his music as much had his sexuality been declared. Luther sang love songs. And when we hear such songs, we think/fantasize of amore between a MAN and a WOMAN. So some of us would have found it difficult to reconcile his music from his sexual preference. We can argue whether some of us SHOULD feel that way. But THAT's another matter. And Luther might have found it difficult to concentrate on his art if he had to constantly field questions, concerns and innuendo about his sexuality, male lovers, HIV status, etc. Some people can handle THAT kind of stuff. But perhaps Luther could not. I recall seeing Luther on VH1 interview a few years ago. It was a very amicable discussion UNTIL the rumors of his sexuality came up. He then INSTANTLY became hostile and he even cursed a couple of times. I don't think Luther really wanted to share with the world whom/what he did in his bed. And, when you REALLY think about it, he was EVERYBIT within his rights to think/act as he did. |
