Now see....

and out of the blue, every time a black politician opens his damn mouth, he's talking that b.s.----"Our brown latino brothers and sisters".

Then try to call us Africans your damn Cousins.

When did they earn ENTRY into our family?

As the Ethiopians say about the Latinos---"they no damn family of mines"-----I add my agreement.

How can mexicans assume blacks are foreigners when their are blacks (ACTUAL mexicans of african descent) in their own country? That part of the article HAS to be a exaggeration on the reporter's part. But what IS true though is that the black mexicans aren't respected any more than we are in mexico either.

Roxie, you would be SHOCKED at how many Mexicans don't know that there are African-Mexicans in their country.

They're so secluded up in the South Mexico hills until millions of Mexicans will fight you down!

Also...

they don't consider their African people "Citizens".

See---that's why I can't stand Black People always trying to INCLUDE every goddamned body in our house 'n shit.

It's FINE to be "friends", to welcome people over for a visit----good-----but like the Ethiopians say, "After we laugh and have beer...take YOU ass home to your own kind."

That's why everybody else HAS SOMETHING--and we don't!

LOL! OMG! Where do they think those blacks came from if they're not citizens?! That makes about as much sense as Mexico's citizens embracing it's Aztec heritage while simultaneously claiming no indian blood. Mexicans...I swear.....

I have good friends who are Hispanic. So I don't have any inherent animus for latinos. But I've never really given a dayam what they think about me as an African American and Black person.

I basically view Hispanics, Asians, East Indians, Arabs, etc. simply as the motley crew of foks who ride the coattails of African Americans. And if they're too gotdayam stupid and selfish to learn that, White foks will teach them the TRUTH about what they really are SOON ENOUGH.

What a shame!

I've never quite understood the affinity SOME Blacks have for Latinos/Latinas/ or any other Spanish speaking person. In my experience, regardless of where they are from, Latinos/Latinas are some of the MOST prejudiced people on the face of the planet! I have met more Latinos/Latinas that are darker in skin tone than a Black American, but are real QUICK to let you know they aren't Black....especially Dominicans and Cubans.

On another note, I wonder what America is going to do with all these illegal immigrants. My eldest child thinks that, eventually, Mexicans are going to "take over". Any thoughts?

Moonsigns,

I read somewhere there are 11,000 US border patrollers for the US's 6,000-mile southern border. Think that's sufficient to thwart the 100,000's of illegals who're trying to get into this country everyday?

If we don't institute any rigorous controls over our border, not only will we be overrun by Mexicans and other Central/South Americans, we may (if we haven't already) begin to get a sh*tload of terrorist flooding into this country to boot.

All those BILLIONS we are spending in Afghanastan and Iraqi ain't worth a dayam if we don't fortify the entry points in to THIS country.

Moon: your daughter would KNOW she's right if she were here in L.A. It don't bother me though. They were here and in charge before, got kicked out and now they're back - it's history folks.

Tomorrow is the swearing in of the new Hispanic mayor - you can imagine what it'll be like around here. L.A. is supposed to be a firework free city but I'm thinking the city is gonna be lit up this weekend.

Abm:

They are going to do nothing about it. In one of those states--Arizona,New Mexico, they cracked down on the border. One of the big growers called the governor and said he can't get his artichokes picked.

Here in St. Louis they are using teams of Mexicans to work on the roofing crews. They don't talk back, they don't ask when they get a break they don't ask when quitting time is.

Black people wanted to get upset but Vincente Fox was right--we don't want to get out in the fields and pick that fruit and those vegetables and they ain't gonna pay a decent wage, forget about it.

Folks who live in the Southwest, you better move learn to speak Spanish. You are living in the area of the Reconquista.

Abm,

Considering we've blown up those countries, I feel, on a human level, we are obligated to rebuild some of what we've destroyed--at least the basics. I don't know how this is going to be accomplished, though. Generally, I think the people of those countries want us to be there as much as we want to be there. Other than rebuilding efforts (which are proving to be rather futile), I think we need to get out. I'd like the money (yes, BILLIONS) that are spent there to beef up our borders. I would also like the money to support creating/maintaining policies, procedures and enforcement as to who, legally, comes to this country in the first place.

I studied abroad in Mexico and felt there was more of a fascination with black folks. I was there with two other black girls and a whole bunch of white folks. In D.F. (Mexico City) we were like stars. We stayed in Morelia, Michoacan for a while and people were more conservative. Most people thought we were from Belize and treated us funny until they found out we were from the U.S. We were told a number of times that Morelos, a revolutionary, was half-African. But some people also learned the U.S. stereotypes and asked us if we knew any basketball players and laughed at me when I said I couldn't dance. I wore braids at the time, and little kids would always want to touch my hair. I do feel as though I had an enriching experience there and look forward to going back. Sure, there are some fools in every country that have racial issues, but believe me, there are a lot of good-natured Mexicans too.

Crystal,

Funny you mention the "new mayor"--that was what initiated the discussion in which my child made that comment.

"They were here and in charge before, got kicked out, and now they're back - it's history folks." -Crystal

So true!

My mother thinks that in order for them to have any true influence and economic power, they, as a group, are going to have to learn English. I feel just the opposite. If they "stick together" and keep multiplying, I think we are going to be the ones who will have to learn to speak Spanish.

Who really knows?!!!! Time will tell.

Chris,

I hear you on the immigration issue. But at some point, that's going to bite us ALL on the ass...even MOST White foks.

Because eventually almost EVERY gigs going to be cheap-Mexican-labor eligible. Pretty soon, it won't be just about fruit-picking. Soon you'll have White UAW foks loosing +$60K/year gigs to some illegal they can pay $25K to.

At some point, hopefully sooner than later, ALL Americans are going to have to grasp the logical, inevitable consequences of allowing untold undocumented, unregulated people into the country.

Moonsigns,

Whether the Iraqis want us there or not (which I VERY difficult to accurately know) is irrelevant. We might be 'desired' in all kinds of places or all kinds of reasons. That don't mean we SHOULD be there. And that CERTAINLY don't mean the lives of (mostly poor/rural) Americans should be sacrificed.

The purpose of the US military is to protect/preserve the United States and it's REAL interests, not to affect some desired socio-political scheme (and surreptitious business endeavors).

Yes. I believe we should assist in rebuilding a country we've helped tear down. But does that mean we should in the process of doing so pay Halliburton over a BILLION bucks for goods/services that were NOT provided/performed?

Does that mean we should continue to loose 100's of American soldiers and contractors lives and suffer 1,000's of permanently injured/handicapped people with NO plan in sight for our extrication?

And, again, haven't we been here BEFORE? Doesn't the tenet "Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it." apply?

ALL that crap, and this does NOTHING to thwart terrorism HERE!

The 911 terrorists got into our country and used our own stuff against us. And they were NOT IRAQI!

Thus, to me, fighting/killing/dying amongst foks on the other side of the world is a sad, yet laughably, unproductive allocation of time/resources.

Btw: Considering how things are going now, I'm betting YOU are right: We'll be made to learn Spanish before they do English. Well, it's either that...or Chinese.

I heard an interview over BBC radio with the Mexican Ambassador to the US who said that the stamps were no different than the Speedy Gonzales cartoons on US TV. He did not think that it was a big deal.
