GOD! My heart goes out to Terry. I am just SOOOOOO sorry to hear about this. What an evil, selfish thing this boy did to her--pretending to "love her" and to be straight. And he stole $62,000 from her! What a rotten bastard. I always thought he was ugly and bitch-acting anyway. I don't know why she let herself be swept away by that little fucker. Knowing "Jamaican resorts"--he was most likely a prostitute selling himself to rich White Men and White Women for YEARS before Terry arrived. These "Jamaica Studs" start as young as 14 working in the hotel resorts---usually servicing over the hill rich white women tourists who wouldn't DREAM of bringing one home. But Terry's lonely, gullible black-man loving ass. She was the perfect target to fall for a bunch of lies. I hope she roasts this motherfucker. She's got the brains, power and money to do it. I would.

Kola, Yeah. Well, rich men have been snuckered by younger shysters FOREVER. So get over it! I see this is a sign of feminine progress: Women are now getting rich/successful enough to get ‘screwed’ out of their dough too! |

Kola, Come on, now! What rich person, man or woman, in their right mind would marry a hooker 20 years their junior - who's from ANOTHER COUNTRY - and expect "Happily Ever After"? The way I see it, Terry's LUCKY things aren't much WORSE than they could have been! |

ABM--- she didn't KNOW he was a hooker (neither do I) and she totally bought into his line of romantic, "Baby, I love you" bullshit. And I'm still counting on Terry to tear this bitch a new asshole!!!! He shouldn't get a cent once they get through presenting their case against this DOWN LOW Rat who probably jeopardized her life by having sex with other men----and not telling her all these years. The courts oughta eat his ass alive!

THIS is the down low! that everybody talks about! He DELIBERATELY posed as a straight man...claiming to love her, want to be her husband----HELL, he even signed a PRENUP (who wouldn't trust him?) And then years go by---and he ups and says, "The reason it's not working is because I'm GAY and I didn't know that at 20 when we first met. But I know it now...and I want you to take care of me for the rest of my life." IN CALIFORNIA---he can legally claim HALF of everything she owns, because they were married and LIVED TOGETHER longer than 8 years. Speaking of which--- I just realized that Thomas left me right before the 8 year mark was up. Well what do you know? I hadn't even thought about that.

Kola, How do YOU know she didn't know dude was hooking? REALLY? How do you know? Come on now and let's pretend we're adults here. Terry 'cute' and all. But she's macking on a Jamacian dude's that TWENTY YEARS younger? While in Jamaica, dude sees 1,000's of lonely/desperate American and European women every friggin week. And he chooses...HER...as he woman? Come on now! I'm not defending the DL thing. I could care less whether he gets a dine. But I think it to be typical convenient female sympathy BS for you (and others) to absolve Terry of responsibility here. Cause it looks to me like she should have seen this train coming about a 100 miles away. |

I'm not absolving Terry McMillan of being a FOOL, ABM. Shit, we've all been one and we all can see that she made a bad choice---although I TOTALLY understand why she made that bad choice. Just the fact that she made him sign a PRENUP is proof that she was being as sensible as she could. But there are certain things----like deluding someone into thinking you're STRAIGHT, marrying them, etc. It's WRONG. Wrong to the point that it doesn't matter whether Terry was stupid or not. His ass is a Con Artist, we all know that, so why shouldn't he pay for being one? And trust me----Terry is going to give him a good dose of FOOL's FIST.

Can you READ ABM? Plummer said he was spending long hours with a dog-grooming business in Danville that McMillan had set up for him a couple of years ago in apparent anticipation of a split. It wasn't until just before last Christmas, Plummer says, that the two finally split -- after he revealed he was gay. "I was kicked out of the house in December right after I told her,'' he said in the interview. In court records, however, McMillan says Plummer confessed to being gay only after she confronted him about all his hours of phone calls to a male friend living in Jamaica. She also says she later learned that Plummer was participating in online gay chat sites.

Damn. The only thing that I really HATE now.....is that this story is going to be used to give more credence to the Down Low phenom that the MEDIA has created to stigmatize black men. That's what I hate---because Terry will be just fine. But this shit. Why couldn't he just play his cards right and EXIT as a straight husband, get some alimony and disappear into the shadows with his gay lover and not cause all this ruckus? The MEDIA's going to use this shit. And now STAR JONES is married to a gay man. GOOD LORD!!!

ABM, take your time and read this: http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/06/26/BAGTQDF4S01.DTL&hw=mcmil lan&sn=001&sc=1000 And don't believe for ONE MINUTE that Terry knew that her man was "gay"----until he gave her reasons years into the marriage to be suspicious. MOST GAY MEN....are masculine, and as I said on another thread.....I've seen him on t.v. when they first married and he seemed like a straight, lovestruck guy who was crazy about his new wife. He totally had me fooled.

Kola, I read this article before Chris initiated the original thread on this subject. Here's the thing: @ Terry is old enough to be dude's mother. @ She's loaded. @ They met in the f@#$fantasyland of Jamaica. @ And EVERYBODY knows Jamacian dudes will scam lonely American women into marrying them to garner citizenship. You do the 'math' for yourself. But this sure don't look like the ingredients of true love/happiness to me. |

You're probably right. I just am no fan of Taye Diggs. Not at all. And I just think Wright or Howard would bring much more texture to the role. Plus, they BOTH (especially Howard) have a hint of MALICE in their persona. And I always appreciate THAT within an actor. |

How come the "YELLOW" men are always portrayed as "effeminate" and "less manly"? Notice we're ready to ditch the muscular, chocolate Dingo boy and bring in the light-eyed yellow guys to play a Homosexual. That's another thing that annoys me. People are playing up the fact that Star Jones's MAN, Terry McMillans's MAN and Oprah's former MAN were all high yellow boys and supposedly---with sugar in their tank. I've now heard SEVERAL dark men (including Thomas) joke like that and I resent it.

And actually, I didn't feel this way about Taye Diggs until I saw his t.v. show "KEVIN HILL". He was a producer on that show and that's when it began to unfold for me, just what kind of person he is. Then the situation where someone attacked him through a THREAT for being with a white woman and his "responses"---caused me to read more about him, and it became clear that he was the same druid colorstruck DARK boy running from black girls and blackness as Sidney Poitier and the rest of the Nigger Ego-Elite.

Kola, I guess Diggs having a White wife doesn't exactly help matters much. Does it? Btw: Don't you realize the problem with your polemic of the bias against lightskinned men is the lightskinned husbands of Jones and McMillan you cite...are gay? |

Chris hayden wrote: "She's got the plot for her next book" I think it should be called "Beyond the Valley of the Down Low." And of course, we're supposed to believe that it's a tragic coincidence that this is all coming out now, just as her latest book is about to be released. Why, only today, the NY Times ran a featured article about the poor unfortunate Ms. McMillan (of course, the timing is completely coincidental to her tragic discovery about her young husband). Btw, did anyone hear the latest from Brooke Shields on the 16-year age difference between Tom and Katie? LOL! From the NY Times: "Pioneers Are Taking Black Chick Lit Into Middle Age" Ms. McMillan has sold 10 million books, and it is a measure of her success that 500,000 first copies of "The Interruption of Everything" (Viking), her sixth novel, which is due out in July, have been printed. In "Interruption," a suburban Californian, Marilyn Grimes, deals with life right before menopause, an annoying live-in mother-in-law, grown kids with their own problems, a husband in full midlife crisis [she was a little off], a mom who is becoming forgetful and a sister with a drug problem. Sigh. Ms. McMillan, 53, said "Interruption" reflected some of the changes in her own life, which has included marriage and the quotidian trials of single motherhood. But, she said, a similar, complexly drawn black character was hard to find on television or in the movies. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/27/books/27auth.html?pagewanted=1&8br

You want to actually do a movie version of her degradation--hmmm. I like it. Let's get some cameos in there for OJ, Robert Blake, Michael Jackson, R Kelly Roman Polansky, and Phil Spector and you got a winner. |

Leave Roman alone, Chris! He was born on the same day and year as me and I always had a soft spot in my heart for the ol lecher. His victim has long since forgiven him and even claims that he never really forced her into anything. And, like they did with Charlie Chaplin, Hollywood forgave Polanski, rewarding him with an Oscar for "The Pianist" in 2002. Robert Blake is also me and Roman's age. Hard to believe a wholesome upstanding pillar of virtue like me is in such company. Tut-tut. |

Kola, I don't know enough about him to agree with your comments about him seeing "himself in the mirror one day". I'd have to research that. I didn't know his wife is White--I thought she is Hispanic. I had "heard" something months ago about some kind of "threat" he had gotten, however, I never cared enough to research it. One of my girlfriends had told me that prior to marrying his wife, he had a very serious relationship with a Black woman....but married this other (Hispanic) woman. Apparently, she had thought the threat had come from that situation..but...again, I really never cared enough to research it. You have me curious, though. I'll have to do some reading when I get the chance. About his looks, again, I've never found him attractive. But, I don't like little men. He has a nice smile and beautiful skin tone....but....too short for my taste. To me, he looks like an average, American Black dude.

You want to actually do a movie version of her degradation--hmmm. I like it. LOL! I think TMc would rejoice in this kind of degradation, as long as she was being degraded straight to the bank! Unlike most of us who suffer embarrasment, some folks actually have the opportunity to turn it into financial, artistic, and/or political gain. Look folks: Don't cry for TMc (or O, or Liza, or Janet, or Star...) These women got to a point in their success where they could have a "MIB"--Not the Will Smith movie, but a "man I bought." Like men have done for ages with women (and likely, gay men have done for ages with younger men). More power to 'em. If any of these women made an error in judgment, it was in believing that these relationships were/could be more than what they were. |
