Seems that Hermes in Paris didn't Oprah Winfrey to shop in their store for a watch for Tina Turner. The store says they were closed and were preparing for an event. Rumors are that a security guard told Oprah's people they were having problems "with North Africans" and Oprah said she had a "Crash Moment." Here's the link below: http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/TV/06/22/oprah.apology/index.html

Well, this is life when you're black. I'm sure Oprah will get all kinds of FREE stuff from HERMES after this---and a few black people (probably North Africans being that it's Paris) will get some Spokespersons jobs. It was a good experience for Oprah.

This reminds me of Queen Latifa being followed around in a department store in New York. Kola, you a RIGHT. This is life when you're black, doesn't matter if you are rich. |

If the story is true, shame on Hermes. If it's not true, shame on Oprah. Racial discrimination is disgusting, but so is the sense of "entitlement" that capital poisons the human heart with. |

Well, according to Oprah's friend GAIL---who was there---the story is more than true. Gail has now told the press that rich white people were IN THE STORE--shopping--and that the door people didn't recognize Oprah and were "gracious"---but discriminatory. Of course, being a High Society Wealthy Dowager---OPRAH (and Gail) know their own kind. And as Gail put it---it was one of the most humiliating moments of Oprah's life and she's doing a whole hour show this fall about it. She is LIVID, and refused to accept HERMES' apology and also cancelled all her orders from their store (which she has shopped from for more than a decade). It really does work both ways--- I was recently having lunch at a soul food restaurant with a girlfriend in L.A., and all of a sudden, someone in the kitchen recognized me. The restaurant wouldn't let me pay for my meal---it was ON THE HOUSE. I'm definite that Oprah has experienced that a LOT MORE. But still--I'm glad that she's going to raise hell about what happened and tell her side of the story, especially since she was with an entourage (comprised of several black folks, which is probably why it happened). Black Americans have ALWAYS praised France for being "liberal" (because they admit Black Americans into CLUBS over there--but not Africans...they allow Black Americans to swim in their hotel pools--but not Africans--I kid you not).........but in the last 10 years, it no longer matters to the French if you're an "AMERICAN" black. Their true colors are coming out.

Well, Cynique...however many were killed in Iraq, I'm sure it wasn't as many as were killed in Sudan and other African countries. Women who look more like OPRAH and YOUR ASS.

And for the record... I donated all the money from my contribution to THIS BOOK to the Children of Iraq (as all the authors in this book did)--so I can talk. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1931561583/ref=ed_oe_h/102-5821613 -0299336?v=glance&st=* That's more than $3,000 that went to ARAB CHILDREN from me. Now when are some damned Arabs going to donate a single PENNY to an African Mother and CHild?

Oh pull your thong out of your crack, Kola. My comment was all about priorities. Why are we in an uproar about Oprah being snubbed when people all over the world are in desperate straits. |

Oprah sure has gr8 topics for her shows... I think the discussion on the movie, "Crash" is going to be a good one. I saw that movie and loved it.... it's all real life situations on race. Very good ending too. |
