Russian President Putin Calls Africans Cannibals

RUSSIAN President Vladimir Putin sparked uproar
yesterday by saying Africans had a history of
CANNIBALISM.
He lashed out at the continent1s past after being
challenged about his human rights' record.
In an astonishing outburst, Mr Putin said: "We all
know that African countries used to have a tradition
of eating their own adversaries.
"We don1t have such a tradition or process or culture
and I believe the comparison between Africa and Russia
is not quite just."
Tony Blair, who had just finished talks with Mr Putin,
was left squirming with embarrassment as the former
KGB boss let rip.
Minutes before the outburst, Mr Blair had hailed
reaching a deal with the Russian leader on aid and
debt relief for Africa.
But Mr Putin1s remarks about cannibalism will be
greeted with astonishment in Africa and the wider
world, as he will succeed the PM as G8 president next
year.
Commission for Racial Equality chief Trevor Phillips
said last night: "What a preposterous thing to say. He
is at best insensitive and at worst a downright
racist."
Mr Putin had invited Mr Blair to his country residence
for talks about the Prime Minister's drive to wipe out
third world poverty before next month's G8 summit at
Gleneagles.
The pair struck a deal after Mr Blair agreed to Mr
Putin's demands that aid was linked to Africa's move
towards democracy.

Let me point out that ancient Africans indulged in cannibalism to the same degree that all other cultures and peoples around the world did.
No one talks about the great, great Cannibalism of the Central Europeans or the American Indians of the WEST (California down to Baja and Texas, Arizona, New Mexico) or of the Mexican and Central American Empires----all who were arguably much more Cannibalistic than any African tribes ever were.
Of course we Africans had so much more wild animal meat to eat year round---we couldn't quite engage as heartily as these other races did.
Especially not like those cold, frozen-in Scandinavians and Central Europeans and Russian Siberians. Who were all KNOWN flesh eaters.
It's common knowledge that the Cambodian jungles are still not safe for Humans, especially children (whose meat is more tender).
And what about all those Europeans who come to AFRICA each year just so they can have "Monkey Brains"---served hot and raw from the cracked open head of a still-alive Chimpanzee????

I suspect Putin is referring to alleged cannibalism of more recent African dictator Idi Amin and others.
Of course I don't support what he's saying.
This is just a diplomatic tactic. He's just trying to divert attention from Russia's problems. Africa's alleged/actual cannibalism is NOT relevant to the issue of Russia's human rights record.
But it might prove helpful (and entertaining) for African diplomats to become as abreast in the history of non-African cannibalism as Kola. |

That ain't what he's talking about. He's reflecting the general impression of Europeans and Americans and others of Africans as Cannibals.
Up until the 1960's it was fairly common in the funny pages and in cartoons to feature white people in pith helmets and Safari costumes sitting in big pots while black spear holding bone through the nose grass skirt wearing witch doctors salted them down. etc.
I can remember someone making a joke on Ed Sullivan about the Kenyan Mau Maus saying a new missionary was delicious.
I don't know where you live, but if you came down here to my neck of the woods, you could get a sizeable portion of the population to say the same thing. |

You may indeed be right. (The near blind obedience to Bush Jr. proves no one can fully discern/predict what madness lurk in the hearts/minds of many White foks?).
NONE of what they suspect about African cannibalism should have any bearing on RUSSIA's diplomatic responsibilities.

The biggest cannibal's are the following:
1. World Bank: They first suck all the blood out of your skinny and hungry body as bloody vampires and then eat your flesh.
2. Western Super-Powers: They will arm your enemies with land mines, guns, etc. and then will wait to eat your shattered limbs and twisted bodies.
3. Multinational Cooporations: They will first feed you with GM Foods and fatten your bodies before sinking their carnivorous teeth into your souls.
I can go on and on but its much better to eat an individual "smoked Puttin on the table" or an "european in a blanket" but these vampires eat the souls of whole nations. |

This "cannibal" stereotype also grew out of the colonialism-era confusion between Africans and the natives of Papua New Guinea who actually did practice cannibalism and ,of course, look physically similar to black people. That's why there were all those images of savages with bones in their noses passing for africans(and hawaiians and phillipinos)in the western world. |
