Does anyone ever discuss BOOKS on this book board? Kola, you are too much! You're the black Erica Kane, I swear! I come to this board and it's a one woman freak show. In the latest episode ABM and the other guy have you, the Queen of Authentic Blackness dating a White Jew, all because you're vain and they bruised your fragile ego. I can't believe it. Before that ABM's wife drops by and you have the gall to tell her that you'd like to bag her husband and you're in love with him! I mean DAYUM. Now your babydaddy is bringing you gifts and talking marriage. You're jetting off to Arizona to give those white lov'n black boys a good tongue lashing. But why? Talk about a meddlesome mother. It's like Mother Africa has suddenly risen out of the sea to torment us all and intefere in our lives. Geesh. And not for nothing, but that mouth on you. You talk like a ghetto sailor hit woman! Dick-dick-dick! And tell us, just how many men again have you slept with of all races? You're insane! Your vagina was corrupted by African custom and now you're getting a face lift (or already got it)? If all that aint enough you're in the kitchen cooking candied short ribs, cleaning up algae from the river, tending your sick son and apparently commandeering photo shoots. It's exhausting just keeping up with you. Let me do a Kola-ism and repeat. It's exhausting just keeping up with you. I can't I just can't fathom you. I started to tell people about you but I'm too embarrassed and it takes too long to explain. You're just a black Erica Kane.

BTW, I don't think Erica Kane was a very nice woman from what I've heard. She lied and schemed to get what she wanted and had 8 husbands I believe. She was breathtakingly conceited. I didn't watch that soap, but I know she's supposed to be a super bitch. I think that's an unfair comparison. To put it mildly.

Psst! Anonymous, if you were a cynic like me, you would suspect that half of what Kolas posts on this board about her personal life is made-up. She's a very good story-teller and she practices her skills on this board. |

Kola, Chill. I got dis. ;) anonymous, If there seems a paucity of book commentary from Kola, it is at least due as much to the fact that few here have and, frankly, can engage her on such at her level. Frankly, what I’ve observed is often some very one-sided discussions akin to that of a graduate professor dialoging with high schoolers. I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed ANYONE at ANY level of media comment on a book quite the way Kola Boof does. She can be BREATHTAKING. The unique depth, variety, energy and clarity to which I’ve witness her deliver concerning books she’s read are often superior to that of original works themselves. If you don’t believe me, I suggest you search the archives here for her views about authors and books. Cause her $#@+ can be downright riveting. Also. This is a free/easy place to post your comments, be they about books or not. I'm sure if you started an INTERESTING (operative word) thread about a book you've read, you'll receive some INTERESTING responses. Now, be honest, if you weren’t on some level enjoying 'Kola World' as it’s currently manifesting, you would NOT know/care enough about what’s being posted here to even bother to initiate this thread. Now would you? |

I really feel bad that my posts to DESTINED have been misconstrued by people as disrespect--- because if anything, I felt I was showing her the utmost respect by admitting that it was wrong to play footsies and by telling her the truth about my feelings AND by assuring her that I would never betray her---no matter how much I might want to. I feel that this kind of honesty and respect is what SISTERS need to share more of. I feel terrible that she doesn't like me, because everything I told her was in the hopes that she would trust me and grow to like me. In no way would I ever disrespect her.

Kola Boof: I really feel bad that my posts to DESTINED have been misconstrued by people as disrespect--- Sorry Kola. I don't trust you. I knew a girl in high school like you once. Thought the whole world revolved around her. Delusions of grandeur. Flagrant loud talking and grandstanding. Larger than life. I sympathize with you because I believe your childhood caused this. You have been through lot of a pain, so you create a fantasy world and insist others share it with you. That's why I don't dislike you, but I see you for what you are. You have a screw loose and Abm wife would be a fool to trust someone like you.

You know, I try very hard not to take the things PERSONAL that Slow Poke, Cynique and "anonymous" say, but it really hurts my feelings just the same. I can't believe after all this time that they really think I'm as shallow and despicable as they claim. I think that I'm a very nice person who's very caring of others, but also quite honest and opinionated when it comes to what I think. People who know me in real life seem to love me.

Cynique, Cynique: “I don't know of anyone on this board who is more of a pompous blow-hard than you, ABM.” ABM: You say that like that’s a bad thing. Whats up with YvetteP and Mah? Well I can't speak for Mah (except for that she blowin up all over the Washington Post!) but I'm still here. I was in Michigan for a fascinating conference and made a conscious decision to go totally "off-line" for several days. Cold turkey: No email, blogging, discussion boards, on-line news, nothing. I'm still a little shook up, but I'll be OK soon! This is a fascinating thread. anon-with-a-little-a, you do seem to know a lot about the goings-on on this board to be someone in search of folks talking about books. Just for fun, tell us why I should assume you're not really Kola. I mean, what a truly Kola-ish move: creating an enemy (a knowledgeable-about-Kool-Room enemy) to attack her when the board is getting a little quiet. Maybe with the full intention of bringing back "Mother Cynique"? ...Fun, fun, fun! |

PLUS....the "hits" for this board are off the chart.

My point was about someone (whoever) being critical in a way that proves her/his/their own fascination with that which she/he/they critique(s). If little-a-anon is really so anti Kool Room--due to non discussion of books, bare breasts, personal drama, whatever--then she/he/they would have stopped checking it out after only one or two visits. |

...and, of course, this puts little-a in a bind: she/he/they can come back on the board and make a rebuttal or further comment--thereby further proving the point, or stay away and die of curiousity, or just check in without commenting.

Cynique, HAHAHA! However, if I recall correctly, awhile ago YOU got very PISSY when you thought that Chris and I were making disparaging comments about your spouse/marriage (even though we weren't). Hell. You even got flustered when we cracked a few jokes about your long-suffering obsession with actor Viggo Mortensen. Out of respect to you, we've abstained from the slightest referencing of your real (and imaginary) spouses/lovers. Now based on what you just pulled above, should I bitch and cry like you did before? |

You can bitch and cry if you want to, just keep mind that I am somebody's wife, too. When I took you to task before, it was about you disrespecting my husband by feeling you could say insulting things about his wife. So I gave you a little taste of your own medicine because you just don't seem to get it. And I ain't never taken anything you said about Viggo seriously, because, as usual you don't razz, you lie. |

Cynique, Okay. We'll leave each other alone (because the alternative would be for me to engage in some REAL ghetto code). But before we do, let's set the record STRAIGHT. It's one thing for you and I to go at it. We've done that back/forth over the year. But it's something ENTIRELY different for us to expressly mention either of our spouses performing a sex act. I think I do recall inferring your husband might be in needed of Viagra. You got PISSED. I apologized and have never even REMOTELY mention anything anything about him. So what you pulled above surprised me. And YOU'RE the liar. You DID get your undies in a bundle when we (myself, Chris and Lambd) were cracking jokes on you beloved 'Aragorn'. I'm sure if I searched through the archives of this site, I could find them. |

Gimme a break. Have you forgotten that you called me a porn star freak? So, yeah, if you can't take it, don't dish it out and we'll let it go. And I don't forget anything. I recall how you guys all ragged on Viggo, calling him a trailer park, stringly-hair peckerwood, queer who was a hack actor. I said he wasn't and supplied you with his resume. Not only that, I have made fun of Viggo myself from time to time. |

We should take into consideration that the essence of humor is that it contains an element of the truth. So to parody the truth within the idiom of wit is one thing. To use lies to abase someone is another thing. I regret that I had to use Destined to get this point across to you. Case closed. |

Cynique, How convenient of you to do that? But my jokes were directed at you as an equal, not your being some subordinant wife under the 'protection' of your husband versus my being some dominant male. But, okay. If you want to continue to unapologetically rationize what you've done, that's cool. My continuing to argue with you would only absorb energies/attention from more interesting subjects. You are really having a problem with digesting the idea, that you ought not ever say to another man's wife, what you don't want said to your wife. There are 2 things on this board that I never do and that is to put down anybody because of the color of their skin or talk about their family members...until now. That's because you were playing dirty. You continued to maliciously drag me into the gutter instead of merely teasing me. You were the one who implied, among other things, that in the past I was giving BJs. Now, me and all the other women on this board can have a cat fight, and that's because we are equals. But a woman is always at a disadvantage when she gets into an exchange of insults with a man. I'll apologize to your wife, but not to you. BTW, neither your nor I will suffer any great loss if we circumvent each other in the future. |

Cynique, I never said anything to you that I weren't prepare for you to deliver in kind. Again, I view us here to be of 'cybernetically' equal stature. Had I known, however, you felt I held some inherent "disadvantage" via this medium, I would have tempered or avoided some of what I've posted. And I'll admit that had my wife not recently established her 'presence' her, I might not have been quite as perturbed by what you did. But, again, to set the record straight, it was YOU who initially alluded to having once had some involvement with the production of an adult film. THAT is what has inspired similar quips from me. I'm certain had you never offered that, I would have eschewed much of what I've said in that regard. Still. I will offer you the same courtesy you (appear to) offer to me by apologizing to your husband for insulting his wife. "Mr. 'Cynique' I apologize for disparaging your spouse. It shall not happen again. So there's no need for you to hunt me down and kill me. Okay?" There. And now I'll consider matters between us closed. |

I hate that people give Kola a hard time. She is one of the most creative women I've ever met. Whether she makes up "posters" or not, is beyond me, but, DAMN, at least she keeps her board crackin'!!! Give the woman credit for that! AND, for those that "constantly" claim she's inventing all the posters... YOU KEEP RESPONDING TO THE POSTS!!!!! Do you feel as stupid as you look? Okay, now that that's out the way... How is everybody doing? I've gained a few new author "friends" from my California post. Kola, basically I was trying to find authors here in Cali to network with and to be a part of a panel discussion on How to Write Novels. Sorry that I didn't reply to you sooner. Anyway, Kola, you're brilliant. I absolutely love you! And just because I'm not a frequent poster, I still visit from time to time for the entertainment. Keep your boards crackin', girlfriend. Haters will be haters! Peace...

Allow me to nit-pik, ABM. But can you be more specific about me sayin I was involved in an adult film? This I don't remember. And I have never considered myself your equal when it comes to an exchange of insults because a man can say anything he wants about a woman but her insults just roll off his back, and she ends up sounding foul-mouthed because of the double standard. A man is admired as playa, but his female counter part is derided as a skeezer. A womanizer is a Don Juan, an adventurous woman is a hot-pants Nymph. Pimp does not have the same negative connotation as 'ho. Well, you get the idea. Anyway, we can let bygones be bygones. Regards to Destined. |

Well, well, well, speaking of stupid, if it isn't ol just-write, stoppin by for a few scatter shots, too faint-hearted as usual, to name names, saying people who respond to posts they suspect are phony are stupid, she herself being too stupid to realize that the only way to tell someone you've decided their posts are phony is to respond. "Last Bad Decision", huh? Is that a book title or just-write talking about that "runaway bride" mug shot she chose for her cover? ROTFLOL

Well the Show Biz world has THE APOLLO audience....and the literary world has the KOOL ROOM. If you can make it those places unscathed--you can make it anywhere. Sorry for the busted jaw JUST WRITE. Cynique's knuckles have been itching for a while now. And that's why some other bestselling novelists who drop in from time to time DEMAND their identities be kept secret or----like my gigantically famous pal Tracy Price Thompson ("A Woman's Worth") they just email and don't post. Speaking of my sister, Tracy, let's plug her latest MILLION SELLER for RANDOM HOUSE: and let's also congratulate Tracy Price Thompson on being nominated this year for the HURSTON-WRIGHT legacy award. I PRAY U WIN TRACY!! And I know you're enjoying your new BIG ASS HOUSE in Hawaii, you damned HEFFA!! I need YOUR agent! Shit! LOL For those who haven't read Tracy's book----you need to get it. It's brilliantly entertaining and has a lot of DEPTH. She deserves to win that HURSTON-WRIGHT award this year.

Wimps will be wimps. Thin-skinned people shouldn't go into the writing business. Ol Kola didn't have any qualm about rippin my book apart on Thumper's board, and after all of this time she still makes reference to it as being an exercise in colorism. But, I can take criticism and anybody who can't, is insecure. |

Yeah, but CYNIQUE....I've never failed to point out what a concise, crisply talented writer you are, even "gifted" (in my opinion) in the best way----your work has suttle restraint and packs a wollop in structure and intonation. And it was me, IF YOU RECALL, who was so enthused by your talent that I sent your book to several AGENTS in New York and to Editor friends of mines....begging them to read it. Whether you asked me to do that or not (which you didn't)---the fact remains that my ACTIONS showed great confidence in you and that I OBVIOUSLY believed your voice should be heard. I wish that "I" could have the support in my career that I've so often extended to others. The fact is---I haven't had it, I've had just the opposite. Also, I didn't say your book was an exercise in colorism. IT WASN'T. It's just that any dark skinned female reader would IMMEDIATELY notice the author's Un-intended colorist landscape....the one dark girl in the book was a fucked up low class loser as I recall. The other women were yellow "Patrician" beauties of high nobility, flowing hair, etc. The book was subtitled "Story of a Black Family"----and yet there really wasn't a single black woman in the family. The women who were depicted could very well be vapid white women in Syoccet or Scarsdale. I recall an INDIAN female ancestor being lauded as the "blood Pride" of the family's lineage, which is typical of AA literature. But the book was in no way an excercise in colorism. And trust me, JUST WRITE isn't caring about you pummeling her jaw. That's what she expected.

I wasn't talking about just-write in my last post, I was talking about the authors who you said were reluctant to post here. How can anybody be intimidated by a cyber board of faceless people. And thanks a lot for all you did for my writing career, which is zilch. Why didn't you use utilize all of these "connections" you have to get your own books published? Also, tell just-write to dab a little alchohol on her pummelled jaw and keep a stiff upper lip. Po tang. |

Well, Cynique, MY BOOKS are not as easy to get through the door as the kind of mainstream, happy go lucky "NORMAL" books that authors like you write. No matter how many powerful friends and connections I have, I'm just not down with the Status Quo, and when you dare to be different----you pay a price. God bless you, too.

Nobody's books are easy to get through the door. And my book was not a normal book. That was its problem. Its narrative style didn't adhere to the conventional guidelines for a novel. |

I was talking about the authors who you said were reluctant to post here. How can anybody be intimidated by a cyber board of faceless people. But Cynique, you're a seasoned pro here--I remember the first time I dared open my mouth on these boards, I think it was to thank someone for a reference of some sort. And Kola breezed through and laughed at my a** for what I said! LOL!!! I remember standing my ground and she then breezed back through and told me ev'thang was alright. Only then I was brave enough to continue posting! But yeah, authors should get used to that kind of thing. Fact, they could use this board as a training ground--We could open up separate threads for people to practice receiving and responding to brutal critique... |

From another thread: and also be advised that many, many, many of the posters at AALBC.COM are million selling authors (such as Zane, Solomon Jones, Eric Jerome Dickey, Berniece McFadden and Brandon Massey), book editors, agents, newspaper journalists, book club presidents, book reviewers and even quite a few television, music and radio personalities. For instance, Etta James, Danny Glover, Pam Grier, Motown legend Martha Reeves and radio diva Wendy Williams have all frequented the pages at AALBC.COM. You would do well to keep your eyes and ears on this board...because many good tips and insider INFO floats around here all the time...which could help you in your own career.

'Vette, Glad you didn't b*+%#out on us. Winners seldom b*+%#. But writers are a notoriously squirrely bunch. Constantly writing, thinking, pruning, doubting, wretching. I can understand their hesitance for posting their work/comments here. 'Sides. I'd hate to burst the bubble of some fledgling writer. I'd DO it...but I'd hate it. Though, as you've discovered, if they can survive Hurricane Kola, the editors of Simon & Schuster won't amount to much. Btw: You should see some earlier ABM/Kola/Cynique/Chris/Thumper/Yukio/Lambd/A_womon threads. Some of that stuff is priceless. |

I still find it a little surprising that people are timid about posting here. What's the worst that could happen? That somebody like Cynique might bite you? If I do, all you have to do is put your tail between you legs and whimper... (I know ABM is itching to say that a bitch can be handled with the Mace of a good retort. heh-heh.) |
