“Lawmakers Revisit Debate Over Women in Combat By LIZ SIDOTI, AP WASHINGTON (May 19) - Women in the military would be barred from serving in direct ground combat roles, under a House bill that sets Defense Department policy and spending plans for the upcoming budget year. The House Armed Services Committee approved the overall measure early Thursday on a 61-1 vote. The same committee in the Senate passed a different version last week. The House and Senate are to vote on their respective bills next week...Rep. Cynthia McKinney, D-Ga., cast the lone dissenting vote on the overall bill.” All, What do you all think about this? Should women be as exposed to the possibility of fight/dying in American wars as men? I’m ‘somewhat' torn on this issue. I can definitely see how putting women on the frontlines of battles could impose additional military, social and cultural risks/problems (e.g., POW rape/degradation, motherless children, emotionally protective/conflicted/overwrought male soldiers, stress-induced affairs/pregnancies, etc.). But ultimately, I think it unfair, even unconstitutional, to restrict a sane, healthy person from fighting for her country simply because she has a vagina. So I say let the women fight too. ‘Sides. May be the very added risks/problems of combat women fighting/dying will compel ALL of us (‘specially doze in the ‘Red State’) to view war more prudently than we already do (Which, btw, may be the impetus of our governmental puppet masters for removing women from the frontlines to begin with.) Maybe a fairer (though not necessarily ‘just’) solution to this dilemma is to ratchet-up the physical criteria for combat to such a degree that FEW females can qualify. Sure it will be somewhat discriminatory. But at least ALL women won’t be utterly excluded...just because they’re women. I guess it shouldn’t surprise an observer that a GOP-led Congress might opt to proscribe women from performing some of the more hazardous military duties (“‘Cause ain’t dey @$$e$ s’pose tuh be at home barefoot, pregnit and watchin’ dat n*%%a gal Oprah on TV?”). This move does, however, in one respect appear antithetical to the overall mission of our jingoistic government. After all, aren’t these the same foks that boldly declares they seek to spread their special brand of ‘freedom’ to the rest of the world (whether duh ignant, heathen ba$+*%#'s want it or not). Considering that the primary tools to effect such...enlisted military personnel...are ebbing, I should think they’d want to boost the number of potential GI bodybags, not reduce it. But then, these are the same foks who will with a straight STILL exclaim that the Saddam Hussein was a 911 conspirator. Thus, of them, such logistical gaps are predictable. (‘Or this move means some kind of ‘draft’ of young American males is in the offing.) |

Mah, You are right. I know they are involved in fighting (although perhaps some of my prior wording appear to infer otherwise). I presented this NOT because they are not fighting. Rather, I posted this because it appears law(s) is imminent that might discontinue or materially limit that. |

It's up to the woman. Me, personally---I couldn't fight in combat only because of the extinuating living conditions. It's too roughneck for me. But there's other ways to be in war. I like to supervise. I have to use other wiles.

ABM, my comment was not directed at you, but rather the delusional lawmakers and general public. Plus, I thought that was a really good article. I feel that women should be given the choice as to whether they fight or not. |

Kola, I agree it should be an individual's, woman or man, decision. This issue I raise is whether women should be LEGALLY prohibited from fighting...the "roughneck" stuff included. Btw: The Armed Forces are always looking to be able to provide their fighting men/women tasty rationings. Maybe you can sign-on to be one of their cooks ("Specialist Kola Boof reporting, Sir!" "SOLDIER! Why is your torso bare?" "Oh. Sir. That's just so it'll be easier for me to provide healthy/tasty proportions of milk to our brave company's cereal, Sir!" "Hmmmmmm? Good thinking, Soldier...Carry on!" "Yes SIR!" <mutualsalutes>) |

ABM, I'm the highest ranking woman in the SPLA. Of course, in a North African army, a woman really has to wade through and endure the purest undistilled sexism. I have killed men. And I hate that about myself. It sickens me. But actual combat, I would not be effective. I have big heavy titties and a fat ass. I don't like being dirty for very long. I don't like loud noise. I don't like men's thinking and being around them when they're making stupid decisions----or when they're doing other things that men do in war (raping and pillaging). I like to fight psychologically or by spreading ideas and influencing people's chain of thought.

Kola: "ABM, I'm the highest ranking woman in the SPLA." ABM: <saluting> Kola: "Of course, in a North African army, a woman really has to wade through and endure the purest undistilled sexism." ABM: But at least you had your pick of the cutest soldiers. Kola: "I have killed men. And I hate that about myself. It sickens me." ABM: Think it bothers you. Imagine how THEY mustah felt about it. Kola: "But actual combat, I would not be effective. I have big heavy titties and a fat ass." ABM: Perhaps. However, those could be used to distract the enemy while your fellow soldiers gun'em down. At West Point, it would be dubbed the "Kola Titty Tactic" (KTT). Kola: "I don't like being dirty for very long. I don't like loud noise." ABM: Hey. When word spreads about the great effectiveness of the KTT, I'm sure the Army'll spring for a few extra set of fresh fatigues and earplugs. Kola: "I don't like men's thinking and being around them when they're making stupid decisions----" ABM: Then, Babe, HOW have you survived in THIS world for so long? Kola: "...or when they're doing other things that men do in war (raping and pillaging)." ABM: Yeah. That's an unfortunate occupational hazard. But look at it this way, you'll probably witness a lot of the really evil/stupid ones get their @$$e$ blown off. So your feelings about this may balance out. Kola: "I like to fight psychologically or by spreading ideas and influencing people's chain of thought." ABM: ~"Yes Mistress Kola. Anything you demand, I'll do, Mistress Kola. And okay, Mistress Kola. I'll b*+%#slap Cynique...Mistress Kola."~ |

**Laughing my ass off*** You're too brilliant. You should be a writer, ABM. ONE DAY...via email....you and I are going to write a SCREENPLAY together. Destined will just have to be happy with the fat check you receive as a writer and let us create a romantic comedy. I can't write it without your perspective. I'm DEAD SERIOUS.

Kola, Haha! Thanks for the props. No doubt we’d make a dynamite comedic writing team. However, considering Destined’s suspicions of you, I’d probably haftah rank her permitting our working together right up their with that Angeline Jolie booty call with respect to things she ain’t NEVEREVEREVER gonna allow me to do. But let us hope/pray she changes her mind and lemme do the thang (Oh, let’s hope she let us write together too...hehe!). |

Well then DESTINED will just have to help us write it, too. She'd be great once I prompt her. But we must do this one day. And I bet DESTINED would love to get a nice fat writing check. Screenplays, produced or not, SELL BIG in this town. And with a good agent---we could EASILY cop $70,000 a piece for writing a Screenplay. That's a $140,000 for you and Destined. She'd be silly to not do it....especially since we could CO-write over the internet!

ABM--- Let me get this straight. DESTINED doesn't even want us to work together over the internet from thousands of miles away???? And writing a SCREENPLAY is child's play. It's not even work for people like us. That's a lot of EXTRA money just to throw ideas back and forth (and of course--I want YOU to write the male lead's dialogue and what he would think/do). Destined need to quit! GOD. I told her EVERYTHING---the whole truth----and she's still not secure. I don't know why she won't realize that I wouldn't do her like that. And neither would you. GOSH man

Oh, back to the original subject: You sistahs might appreciate knowing that the ONLY dissenting vote tendered for this wayward proposal to limit women's role in the military is a sistah: Rep. Cynthia McKinney, Georgia of Democrat. Some of you may recall McKinney was the very first high-ranking governmental figure to question whether Bush and the neo-con's had advanced warning of the 911 attack (which, btw, is a question that's has yet to be definitively answered). The GOP was so pissed at McKinney, they rallied together their forces...and MONEY...and - via A LOT of underhandedness, lies and ommissions - managed to oust McKinney from Congress in 2002 via...you guessed it...a sell-out @$$ Black person: Denise Majette. But McKinney reclaimed her congressional seat when during 2004 Majette abandoned her House seat in a futile attempt to obtain Senatorial post of GA’s retiring Senator Zell Miller. McKinney was triumphantly elected via +63% of the vote. PS: What a sap this Majette must be. Did she HONESTLY think because she played dutiful house niggress and helped sell-out McKinney that the GOP as a whole and the redneck mafia down in good ol’ Dixieland in particular would support electing her Black @$$ to the US Senate? Instead of eating those Georgia peaches, chick mustah been smoking’em. |

Abm: I was so happy when McKinney won her seat back but I think she is wrong on her vote about women in the military. As a woman who served in the Army, I knew when I took the oath I would have to defend by using a weapon and its not going to matter if your on the front or hold up in the rear it's the risk you take. |

LiLi, Not sure why you disagree with McKinney here. Her vote suggests to me that she's for giving women any/every chance to serve as men, which is what you appear to infer here. But if I am wrong, please elucidate. |

One of my favotite Sister-soul-jah's were the Cuban women's Anti-Aircraft wing which fought along-side with the MPLA fighters in Angola (1980's). They were sooooo good. They shot down any South African fighter aircraft that came into Angolan airspace. During the famous battle for Quito Kavanale (you might be able to get the documentary from PBS) their role in bringing down the South African air force changed the whole war which ended in the defeat of the racist boer army and eventually end of aparthied. These were mostly Black women from Cuba and a lot of them decided to live in Angola at the end of that war. |

Anunaki, Thanks for the post. There MANY examples of women who've acquited themselves admirably in battle (e.g., Israel, Africa, etc.). The government is just scared that if people see too many dead/dismembered female bodies, foks will turn-off from supporting their harebrained warmongering. |
