Kola, Have you ever considered the ubiquitous adoration of Alicia Keys and Beyonce Knowles will lead to more appreciation of an India Arie and an Alek Wek? I’ll agree only a fool would argue that there is not a worldwide preference for women who have more of a Caucasian appearance. But I don’t think those standards are NOT as intransigent as you seemingly assert. In the last 20 years, there have been many Black women to win assorted nationwide beauty contests. Sure, some of them bear the more Eurocentric accoutrements of light skin/eye color, keen noses and straight hair. But some of them were quite African in appearance. We even see Queen Latifa (whom NOBODY would confuse with a White woman) hocking Revlon cosmetics alongside an ultra-White country singer Faith Hill. Latina Jennifer Lopez’s famed arse has Mother African scribbled all over it. Even the beauty standards of White women themselves appear to be changing. Actress Angeline Jolie is routinely considered Hollywood’s most beautiful actress (though biracial Halle Berry is frequently considered a close contender to that title). Yet, the very features that distinguish her appearance, her full eyes and lips, are more African in appearance than European. I wager that on at least a subconscious level appreciation for a Jolie is partly due to her looking more like a Beyonce (whom A LOT of non-Black boys/men are squirting their Hanes BVD’s over). See. American marketing is driven by what’s new and fresh. Now Alicia and Beyonce are hot new things. But they won’t be such forever. Someone else will come along who’s younger, fresher. Maybe she’ll be more ‘Black’. And that’ll be cool because the non-Black masses have already been prepped to appreciate some – albeit limited – manifestations of Blackness by Keys and Knowles. Lastly, I think the biggest problem with idolizing Black female beauty is NOT primarily racial in nature…it is mostly ECONOMIC. I predict that when Blacks as a whole – including North American, African and European –have the economic prowess that rivals that of Whites/Asians, the beauty standards throughout the world will change DRASTICALLY. PS: I’ve recently watched national commercials for Buick and Ol’ Navy that feature Black women in very flattering/alluring ways (That sistah with the Buick almost inspired me to consider buying an American car…almost.). And those lusciously lithe, nubile, dark, afro-coiffed women looked MUCH more like India Arie than they did Alicia Keys. |

ABM, I agree with you totally. But that still doesn't mean that I am free TO GO from the work I am doing....which is to SET IN MOTION the day you describe when the "Black Man's Mother" is considered a full human being and a woman----and WORTHY of giving birth to her own son. ONLY through the Black Man's Mother, his REAL mother, can the authentic Black Man be born...and thus Africa itself. And Farrakhan is totally right when he says that the BLACK RACE can...NEVER RISE....until the Black Woman is redeemed and restored to her rightful place. So I look forward to that day....but still.....I am sad that I will not be here to witness it. And I am sad for the MILLIONS and MILLIONS of very dark skinned Africoid Beauties that never got to love and be loved by their own reflection and give birth....IN THIS COUNTRY....to more of our people. To me...this is a Holocaust in itself. The total DISALLOWING of our real mother to even participate in our racial gene pool. I will never REALLY be able to appreciate Mulatto beauties or Angelina Jolie--because they fully BENEFIT from the EVIL of White Supremacy and KNOW IT and would do little to change it. So with this in mind, I see evil underneath Angelina Jolie's skin and Beyonce and Halle Berry's beauty. I don't see it as GOODNESS. A woman who looks like Lauryn Hill or Brenda Syykes is my IDEAL of truly harmonious beauty. But yes, I think you're right. The day IS COMING.

ABM, You do realize that someday Biographers and Literary Chroniclers are going to write SOMETHING about me...if for no other reason than I was just odd and unconventional.....AND.... YOU and "the mystery" of who you are/were....is going to become part of the Kola Boof folklore, mystique, whatever. I can well imagine that much of what I've written here over the years will give a STRONG portrait of what I was really like, what I thought and felt....and about my sexuality. Well until she became a Garbo-like recluse. Which is coming up....as soon as I make some REAL money. So, as much as I like to play with, daddy, sometimes, I can't be so bold as to TOUCH the surface of what I'd really like to say and do. I think we're quite a compelling little duo bon not as it is. What with no one being able to know exactly who you are. What a sad romance we have. But at least we've arrested the rumor that I was being DUPED out of my cyber drawers by John E. Wideman. I have to admitt. I never knew much about or was all that interested in Zora Neal Hurston....until so many of these college Professors started comparing my "personality" and "flamboyance" to hers. Now I've studied her....and in studying her....I see that people actually published her letters, notes to people, memos, chicken scratch... ...so I now realize that Troy Johnson's "VAULTS" here are going to be a major source of the ingredients that will someday make the Kola Mystique. I'm glad I have you as my boyfriend, because you're time enough for me...you're Aries, you're from the same kind of Blacks that raised me up....and if you're not a writer-----you should be, because you're brilliant.

Yeah. We are some couple. But, hey babe, sometimes you gottah get the lovin' you need however, wherever you can (in person, the web, Skank magazine, etc.). Thanks for the props though I'm more honored by your attention than you are by mine. Conversing with you is like dancing in a magic forest, fraught with danger and delight (your double-d's). Hey! Consider this: You are like one of Charlie's Angels. And I'm Charlie! |

I saw Kola over the weekend in L.A. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give her a 7. Too tall for me, I wouldn't say gorgeous, but she's attractive. I liked how she smelled and she has a very interesting husky voice like Lauryn Bacall or Katharine Hepburn. She talks very proper and intelligent. ABM makes a big deal of her large breasts which looked a lot smaller and more natural in person. She had them completely covered up but with no bra on they were moving an awful lot, you could see the nipples and they were really nice and sexy. When I hugged her, I could immediately tell they were real. If I closed my eyes, it felt like she didn't have a shirt on and when you try to stop hugging her, she pulls you closer and hugs you and kisses you on the neck and cheek with these cushy open lips. Man! I never had a kiss on the cheek from an OPEN mouth before! It was boldly "suggestive". A lot of the guys that hugged her were grinding her right there in the vendor's hall and she was letting them. I saw the activist Mr. Unite-Us kissing her on the neck and she was laughing and jiggling while his hand was feeling her ass. He bought five of her hardback books and she signed them all. Then these teenaged boys from the Nation of Islam table were hugging her, I thought inappropriately, and she just smiled and fixed their little bow ties while they buried their heads in her chest. That was the biggest shocker for me since she don't like Muslism. She was kissing enough of them and the Muslims were letting her kiss and hold them. She kissed and hugged the women like this too. Holding them close and kissing their faces. Only she told the women how much she loved them. Man! It was erotic and her table was a big hit. When the writer Parry Brown was gone to give her lecture in the auditorium, Kola was hugging and slow dancing with Parry's husband. He was grinding her, too. I'm just wondering how ABM would react if he got a look at her backside. That's what I and most of the guys I was sitting with were most impressed with. Da bootay. Hehe J. Hampton

Oh please. James Hampton, you're such a liar. I never shook hands with Parry Brown's husband let alone danced with him. Charles Brister aka Mr. UniteUs never put his hand on my ass, and he's a close friend, our kiss was perfectly innocent. I was not being "grinded" by men and I was not kissing anyone with an open mouth---if I kissed you that way, it was because I was probably saying something and my lips touched your face before I could stop talking. You're so full of it.

You two used to date or something? HAHA! Kola, Here is just a taste of the reason why many AA women suspiciously view how you present yourself. Cause they know there are PLENTY “James Hampton’s” out there who’ll sully a sistah’s rep’ with the quickness. And for someone who have your public profile, having a bad rep can be akin to having herpes: Once you’ve got it, no matter what you do, it’ll follow you wherever you go. Crystal, Did you observe any of what James accuse Kola of? Was she publicly spooning her admirers? (And if so, were you amongst her many ‘spoonees’ [YUM!]?) |

ABM, James is full of it, and NO, I have never dated or met him before in life. There are 3 hiddeous rumors that men who are OPPOSED to either my Politics or my Work are trying to spread about me right now (#1) The rumor that I'm a Man, aka the CIARA rumor (#2) The rumor that I eat Human Flesh--which was told on London Radio and has not subsided and (#3) The rumor that I was a high class prostitute in Egypt and Morocco, which was actually started by the New York Times. However, I am not a man (I've given birth to two sons), I DO NOT eat human flesh and I have NEVER IN MY LIFE been a Paid Prostitute. Sure...I've been a mistress and slept with MANY MEN in my wild man-hating 20's....but I have NEVER been an actual prostitute. So you see, there isn't much I can do about these kind of rumors. My background as an actress (playing sex kitten roles in Arab films) only REINFORCES it----the determination on my part, to present an authentic Africoid image on my book covers also reinforces it. But then again...the controversy has made me see that we really need to wake up and STOP dismissing the sexual freedom of women as "cheap and whorish"-----as if women don't live their lives just as men do. As Toni Morrison said: "The Prostitutes have always been the ones who set the style". And I know exactly what she meant. I love my sensuality...not "sexuality"....but SEN-suality. I love it and like most Naturalist (animist) from the Nile River Tribes, I do believe that women MUST have sexual power within the society--otherwise the society crumbles. Black American women suffer a terrible "disconnection" from their sexual identity---because they were RAPED in slavey times (400 years) and RAPED during Jim Crow Days...and then after they were raped, as JAMES BALDWIN noted.....they were BLAMED for their own rape and black men did not protect them, but ridiculed and devalued them for being raped. On top of this, they were raised in a society where CHRISTIANITY was FORCED upon them and their African religions and tribal identities stripped away...body and soul. Their very FEMINITY was removed by slavery. Their blackness was cursed by the White Society ANNNND by Black men, who came to prefer "mulattos"---and the Mulatto herself was being Kept, Raped and Tormented by the White Men who preferred them to their own white women. Of course, all these facts left the Black Woman with no recognition except the moniker---"Strong black woman". Which is really quite hateful if you think about it. American Black Sisters are now sexually ambiguous, because the society FEARS their black eggs and will not allow them to COMPETE on equal terms with other women--the stigma of "blackness" being used as both genetic proof of "whorishness" and of "inferior breeding". The black man's mother is PORTRAYED as undesirable and backwards......the white man's mother is PORTRAYED as superior and more feminine, the very picture of desirability, and many times, black women's features and flavor are INFUSED into the White woman's image, but the origin of those features and flavor are MUTED. I MUST HAVE my sexuality...and you will especially hear this from women of East Africa like Iman, Waris Dirie, Kola Boof and many others. We cannot imagine a society whereupon women do not move to some kind of sexual impulse. For without it, a woman cannot properly manipulate and rule over the men. The woman can not bring her children into the world. In America...a White Woman is called "sexually adventurous", but a Black American woman is called a "Ho". This is how they strip the Black Woman of her sexual power and make her the "mule" of the society---the asexual frump that nobody is to desire. My work is aimed at changing that---at openly embracing my sexuality and ENJOYING it and using my work to explain and educate others about the beauty of being a woman and a mother. These are themes (womanhood and motherhood) that flow freely in ALL my writings. Those who are intellectual, ABM, will truly come to understand and appreciate me. Others---who have something against me in the first place or feel threatened---will attempt to reduce me to a "hoochie", etc. But it won't work. My talent and my cunning is too immense to be stopped by anything other than a bullet. I am in no way a "slight" woman. |

Kola, You’re no simple hoochie. Got too much else to offer to have to go that route. (Though you definitely are up to play acting those role now/again.*wink*) I accept your not being the cause of much of the lies expressed about you. I was merely suggesting that, perhaps, you to a degree enable some of them. I suppose if you are to effect major change in sociology perception and behavior of Blacks, perhaps you must endure what’s said about you. Often, though, you yourself appear unaware of that. I’m uncertain of how you define “sexual power” or how such should made manifest. However, you appear to mistakenly presume that you exert such within vacuum, where men – raised in 100’s years of Christian, Victorian modesty dogma – will discern and oblige with your sensuous “animist” criteria. Simply: Does, at the end of the day, your having all this “sexual power” mean I get to bone you (and your sister, kin, friends, you/Cynique at the same time, etc.)? Hey. I’m just trynah understand. Crystal, Sorry babe. But you said you liked getting into my drawers. Hehe! |
