Join Marita Golden (Don't Play in the Sun) at The Graduate Center in NYC on February 16, 2005 at 7pm to be part of the discussion. Ms. Golden's book, DON’T PLAY IN THE SUN: One Woman’s Journey through the Color Complex is a hard-hitting meditation on the role that color plays among African Americans and in wider society. Her memoir offers a nuanced look at identity and the irrepressible and graceful will of the human spirit. Peppering her narrative with “Postcards from the Color Complex,” reminiscences of some of the author’s most powerful experiences, Golden takes us inside her world, and inside her heart, to show what a half-century of intraracial and interracial personal politics looks like. Join the author for a lively discussion of the color complex that is sure to resonate for many women. Ms. Golden’s book will be available for purchase. I love Marita Golden so much. Her new book "Don't Play In the Sun" is nothing less than remarkable--my only complaint was that it was over too soon. Everybody should get a copy of this book. If I were in N.Y., I would definitely go and see her. I'm urging others to PLEASE go and see Miss Marita. She is just too real--you'll get immense knowledge and inspiration from her.

Marita Golden recently won the N.Y. HOTEP SOCIETY AWARD: http://www.londonjihad.1colony.com/custom.html Here's a good interview with Marita Golden--but a few months back I listened to a good one online between her and some white guy--unfortunately, I can't find it now. So here's one to read. http://www.maritagolden.com/QandA.html I love Marita Golden and I'm amazed that I had never heard of her until I was an adult.
