It seems that all the online discussion groups I am on gave a sort of Cybergasp after the events of the past week or so in Europe and the Middle East. Everybody's discussions have been sort of strained, sort of, "Let's keep the subject" and then people fading into silence as stuff hits the fan. The bombings in Spain served to remind us that it ain't over, and, since it has already happened here, it could again. The dire warnings broadcast by shadowy whoevers send home the same message. The fighting in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and now the assasination of the Hamas Spiritual leader--I used to wonder why during great times of War few if any great works of art were created. If you are thinking of Armageddon, fiction (or music or painting) may fade to insignficance. Troy has graciously provided space on this page for us to discuss matters like these. The messages and posts could provide a record of how we coped and what we were thinking during this time. Anybody got any thoughts? |

Just like the prophets of doom, terrorism will always be with us. Why is the panic button being pushed? But, then, that's the reason terrorism is so effective; it instills fear in the hearts of people. Terrorism can also be a boon to leaders like Bush, because a scared constituency is a guillible constituency. But in the big picture, the odds of the average American being a victim of terrorism are slim. |

Cynique: You have a great point. The odds are much greater that a family member or friend will kill or injure us than that same will happen in a terrorist incident. The odds are even greater than that than we will be injured or killed in an auto accident, and by even greater odds that we could be injured or killed in an accident around the home. What kind of psychology goes into such a mindset? It all comes down to perception--I remember this white writer did a survey among white folks asking them whether they feared being hurt or killed by a black person more than a white one. The white folks feared being injured by a black one, despite all evidence that most perpetrators of violence against whites are other whites. The panic button is probably being pushed because it is an election year and the Great American Electorate is, like you say, gullible. |

Great question Chris, I'd say the answer is as you surmised, the 'horror' of the hour makes everything else pale in comparison. In other words, fear stifles creativity. Cynique terrorism may have always been around but it's never hit white America on such a national level. We as blacks have lived under white terrorism ever since our ancestors were forced to co-exist with these beings. Remember the first bombing was not Oklahoma but the black township Rosewood I think it was. Yes, whites called in their military brothers to aid them in destroying blacks and they flew overhead and reign down weapons that caused mass destruction. Which leads to your point ChrisHayden, 'white fear of blacks' is a result of them believing blacks will arise and do the evil unto them that they have done unto us. None the less, the fact is, whites disposition should show all blacks with 'eyes to see,' that whites are bred to see us as much of an enemy as they see the arab terrorist. Unfortunately, far too many blacks Willie Lynched and/or full of anglophilia are looking for acceptance from these mad beings. That is the true 'terror' that learned blacks must fight to destroy for if we don't such blacks will ever aid and abet white dominion while opposing all things black. As for the panic button, I wouldn't put it pass Bush and his forces to purposely set off a terrorist attack. You know bomb some part of America right about election time, so people will be reluctant to take Bush out of office. Nothing's to great a sacrifice that those crooked deceivers wouldn't pull it off. Ah power, they love it!
