Bush can't run on job performance, can't run on the economy, can't run on education and now can't run on foreign policy, which he has messed up. What is left? That old standby, black folks. Yes, black folks. Right now some polls give Kerry the lead in any contest with Bush. How to bring those prodigals back to the fold? Black folks, of course. A Willie Horton style campaign. A campaign like Jesse Helms used against Harvey Gant. Face it. What else has he got. So when do you think he will start it? And do you think it will work? |

The Latino vote is what drowned out the black vote in the last election. Without the new Latino power, Bush would not be in office. The Latino population continues to grow at 37% faster rate than AA's. They slightly outnumber us already. They are half Repubican, half Democrat, but many of their Democrats vote Republican. I have noticed MILLIONS being poured into the Latin coffers by both parties recently. Perhaps living in Missouri, you aren't privvy to the domination of Latinos in California, Texas, Florida and as someone mentioned, North Carolina. I'm not sure the old standby, us black folks, have as much pull as we used to. Or do we? Enlighten me brother.

Let's Get Serious: You are not getting it. I am talking about how Bush Sr ran the ads about Michael Dukakis releasing a black man on prison on a furlough who ran away and raped a white woman while he was out. Don't you remember the Willie Horton ads? I am talking about how, when the race was close in Carolina between Jesse Helms and Harvey Gant, a black man, Helms ran this ad where these white hands were holding a job application as a voice over intoned, "You could have had that job, but you didn't get it because of affirmative action" and the hands tore up the application (I believe that one was courtesy of Lee Atwater, who, dying of brain cancer, apologized to the black community. I'm talking about Ronald Reagan starting his campaing in Philadelphia Mississippi and talking about Welfare Queens driving cadillacs-- The pull we have in the election is as a lightning rod to energize portions of the white electorate to vote Republican even against their own self interest by exciting their racism. Do ya get it now? |

(laughing) Yeah, I get it. Although I still don't think either party is overtly concerned with coming up with anymore Willie Horton's. As I pointed out, it's not really necessary anymore. Just my opinion.

Let's Get Serious: We shall see. Some polls are already putting Kerry ahead in a face to face. |
