Connerly has snuck his Racial Privacy Initiative onto the Oct. 7th recall ballot. This is the same guy that pushed through anti affirmative action in the State. This new initiative will prohibit the State from collecting information on a person’s race, ethnicity, color or national origin. He says it’s discriminatory to make people have to identify themselves by race. No matter that white folks make this same identification and act on it every single day. No matter that these actual numbers on pieces of paper are sometimes the only evidence that can be used in court in discrimination cases. How are we gonna “prove it” now? Oh, that’s right. There’s nothing to prove – according to Connerly. Sigh. I’ve heard several prominent black republicans or anti-affirmative action folks say they don’t like being called naive. What they don’t seem to understand is that’s the best thing that can be said about them. If they aren’t naive then they’re liars and frauds. Because it’s hard to think that these seemingly intelligent people actually believe this crap they spew.

This may sound facetious but, as recent studies have shown, the kind of names black people are currently giving their children readily identifies what race they are. So, take note expectant mothers. Shequita and Rasheed may inspire discrimination in perspective employers. LOL |

Also, the data also enables groups to fight for more resources, especially political districts....he is stupid; it is a shame! |

These republican/conservative types (Black & White) are very clever, charming, organized, well-supported and highly-financed. Connerly has been successful in part because he is adept at getting his oppostion so worked up and angry that many go along with him because he appear to present the more reasoned and reasonable choice of Black thought on race-related issues. So when confronting them, it is very important that we avoid the name-calling and STAY-ON-POINT. Our publicly and angrily blaring out that Connelly is a fraud, liar and naive - as we seem to frequently do - only help him, not us, because that causes the dialog to digress into fruitless and embarrassing hostility & histrionics, which not only consume our precious time/energy but also further empowers him among his ardent backers and even among many of those who may be straddling the fence on the issue.

I think it's time the Good Lord called Ward Connerly home. |

I don't think WC is clever, nor black republicans. Organized and well supported, well thats another story. It has more to do with the fact that conversatives finance black conservatives, while liberals don't finance black liberals....interesting, isn't it? |

Yukio, Perhaps more than anyone else, Connerly has been able to fashion a formidable assault against Affirmative Action. Now I don't know how you define "clever", but what Connerly and his cohorts have been able to achieve - whether you like it or not - sure rates as such in my book. And I think Blacks don't financially back liberals because most of us don't give too bits of a damn about what most liberal (and conservative) Blacks think and do. Because in spite of what either Jesse Jackson (and Shelby Steele) would assert - MOST Black folks (not unlike other Americans) fall squarely in the middle on most sociopolitical issues. |

Yukio: Conservatives finance black conservatives when they are serving, a la Connerly, Sowell, etc. as mouthpieces. When they go off the reservation a la Glenn Loury, Walter Williams, Shelby Steele and Stanley Crouch, Alan Keyes they become as David Brock did, persona non grata. This has been my problem with conservatives. They don't seem to want any free thinking from any blacks. Liberals will at least tolerate blacks who have their own minds about some things--but there is a limit to this also--as you can see in the affirmative action debate and how they treat bell hooks and others who do not strictly toe the line--as they deserted Dr. King when he started to oppose the Vietnam War. Liberals do finance black liberals--the major civil rights organizations are largely financed by whites, liberals have gotten many blacks spots in academe, etc. All: I do not think what Connerly and his cohorts have done is clever, they have just tapped into the white backlash/Angry White Male/Anti 60's sentiment in the country--opportunistic is more what I'd call it. Blacks don't financially back liberals because, the myth of the 600 billion Negro aside, blacks ain't got no big money--and when they get some they get conservative. ABM: Where blacks can never fall in the middle is on the issue of black advancement--which always causes a conundrum for blacks calling themselves conservative. What are they trying to conserve? Do they want things to stay as they are now? Are they satisfied with even their own status in life? Almost all blacks will answer no. Which then puts them at crosspurposes with conservatives, who hold that things are just fine the way they are, thank you. |

Interesting, that Blacks have bought in to the KKK view, that Black is different and thus should follow separate rules. |

Blacks are different. And America has made it necesssary for us to create our own rules to cope with the institutionalized racism of the white power structure. |

gene_6pack: Hmmmm...you talk as if the rules have ever been the same for blacks and whites.... strange that you seem so naive about history and the present. |
