Chris,

Okay. I admit I am mourning. :-(

"'Superman' Star Reeve Dies at Age 52

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. (Oct. 11) - "Superman" actor Christopher Reeve, who turned personal tragedy into a public crusade and from his wheelchair became the nation's most recognizable spokesman for spinal cord research, has died. He was 52."

I am very sad, because I truly loved Christopher Reeve, especially when I was a kid.

I love his film "Somewhere In Time". And to me...no one but him will ever be able to pull of SUPERMAN. He was perfect as perfect can get.

This is very, very sad...although, I'm glad he's not suffering in those braces anymore.

Foks,

I am slightly embarrassed to admit this. But Reeves death geniunely has touched me in a way

As I have admitted before, I grew up a rabid consumer of comic books. And for 3 years PRIOR to the release of "Superman: The Movie", I rabidly followed its development.

DC comic, the distributor of the Superman comic would publish monthly details of the film, including its actors, special effects, estimated release dates. So every month, I would hustle up a quarter or 35 cents to buy a book that would provide the most current info.

And the movie was BETTER than I could have imagined it to be!

It had such romance and excitement that you could almost "believe a man can fly".

Oh. And the cast of Superman! I mean, in ONE movie, you had Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman, Glen Ford (one of my favorite ol' school Studio movie stars), Jackie Cooper (of "Lil Rascals" fame), Ned Beatty, and Margot Kidder. Even today you be hardpressed to fine a movie, especially a sci-fi/fantasy movie, that has had such an august cast.

That's why "Superman" director Richard Donner (who also wrote, directed and produced the Lethal Weapons movies [and he play's "Riggs'" and "Murtah's" Captain]) remains one of my favorite director/producers.

So, yeah, I became a permanent fan of Christopher Reeves. Thus, his passing saddens me.

Kola,

He was PERFECTLY cast for that role. Because although I am not sure that we was an especially versitil actor, Reeves seemed to confer a natural earnestness and integrity that made his portrayal of an otherwise unbelievable character seem very 'real' in such a way that if there really were a "Superman" you want him to be like THAT guy.

Can you BELIEVE that prior to selecting Reeves there was serious talk about casting Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role of Superman?

And "Somewhere In Time" is one of my wife's favorite film also (and, okay, it's one of mine too but..."piiissss"...don't tell her though). It is so bittersweet, I have to keep a on hand a box of Kleenex to dry her tears. I drag it out of our DVD/VHS library whenever I am looking for a sure-bet tool for helping me get laid. (hehe!)
