Bleek,
I have no problem with you asking the questions you asked. You, like Abm (and Cynique) have always been respectful, though you disagree with me on many things. That says a lot about the kind of human beings all of you are. In short, I respect that quality in people.
To me, Thump's is a reflection of the real world. Many of the topics discussed here are relevant and a mirror of our culture. They are also topics that I've encountered in everyday life, and because I married into a family that happens to be black.
I stay here for two reasons, one, I'm indifferent to the ideas people have about me, especially when they don't know me (afterall, this is the internet for goodness sakes). And second, I do read more than this forum (culture, race, economy). I love reading about the book selections, poetry and general conversations. It has increased my interest in reading the work of authors I hadn't been exposed to. It also enlightens me and helps me to understand and value the opinions of those that have different life experiences (race aside --there are blacks that have different life experiences).
I don't view myself as "gettin' my hair pulled out everyday" or takin' a "lickin", either. Reason being, I don't take it to heart. In the many years of dating/marriage, I have heard so much garbage from all kinds of folks, both male and female, and every race/color. Years ago, I finally got to the point that I knew it was useless and a waste of MY energy to care what others think (in many respects). Here, I understand that my race makes me a scapegoat for some people's unreconciled (and in some cases justitified) rage. However, it is not a reflection of who I AM as a person. I remove myself emotionally.
I don't feel included, but I don't feel excluded. I guess I'm indifferent. I take more from the board than most of you would understand, or care to. All in all, it helps me to treat people in everyday life with respect, compassion and honesty. All in all, it's about me and my personal growth outside of here.
That's it.

What I say here and particularly HOW I express myself her is more for YOUR benefit than it is for Moonsigns. But, as is often the case with people, you get so caught up in the detail you loose site of the grander scheme.
Look at how the world REALLY works.
The truth is, the foks who have the least power are often those who make their intentions and feelings most evident. And those most powerful will woo you with a glittering smile...just prior to slitting your exposed jugular vein.
So, again, I suggest and hope that you learn/apply some subtlety to how you confront your troubles and those who trouble you.

I agree with you Carey.
And on top of that....I tried to befriend MOON (because I honestly do think she's a nice person with good intentions)...the problem is....she's still cloaked in the privileage of her "white supremacy" and not only doesn't see it.....but with all her intelligence...she REFUSES to see it!
That's where I got sick of her. And she IS arrogant.
As well....she and OTHERS can't "hear".
Because she seems to really believe that I'm AGAINST "interracial love"---which I most certainly AM NOT against.
I have dated outside of my race many times and would do it again if a nice guy presented himself.
However, in 2004, with the vast majority of Black People suffering an "epidemic" of self-hatred (not LOVE) that is now coming to the fore....and at a time when the MEDIA is encouraging us to breed ourselves out of existence and has placed "Dating a White Person" as the HIGHEST achievement in the Black Community.....
....I don't feel that I should be setting that example for my people at this time.
20 years ago, I would have FOUGHT for Moon and her husband's right to love one another.
But today it seems that any uneducated white WAITRESS can walk up and marry the most educated, successful, richest Black Man in the community....solely on the basis that her white skin brings STATUS.
Moon can't understand the difference in someone pointing out the logistics of these relationships.....and someone being OPPOSED to something NATURAL...which is what interracial "love" is...NATURAL.
Self-hatred however is not natural. Wanting to see a whole race of people bastardized and their culture breeded off the planet is not natural.
There is a distinction.
And I too was really sick of Moon's arrogant talking down. I might tolerate it from Cynique (mommie dearest), but I don't take that off white women.
I most certainly would WHOOP her ass and I owe JMHO an ass-whooping, as well. Fink coward.
And as for ABM, A_Womon, he loves watching us all fight and he's only loyalty is to his penis. He had the nerve to talk about hoping his daughters marry young the other day......like the typical black man......he thinks his own daughters won't be affected by the ruptures in the black community that WE are ignoring "now", rather than fixing....and that HIS GIRLS will somehow be treated differently and will have better prospects than the rest of us--because HE is their father and such a good one---and you know how that goes. ABM has "always" ignored the reality of the SPECIAL PREJUDICE that black men have traditionally reserved for black women--he tends to blame black girls and makes excuses for the males behavior (boys will be boys)---and doesn't realize that MORE THAN LIKELY, when his daughters DO marry--they'll have to SETTLE rather than be satisfied, because there is a paradigm shift now taking place in the black community where these "stereotypes" and "de-valuing" of black women are increasing rather than abating.
Of course, he's not a woman.
But I do understand how conversing with ABM with regard to MOON...can make you feel so disconnected and alone. That's how I feel and that's why I get pissed at his ass, because he just doesn't understand that the PLAYING FIELD is not LEVEL.....and until it is......black women will always harbor an "irrational", "resentful" tone....OR....will be like BLEEk and CYNIQUE....quietly submerging their TRUE FEELINGS, being ladylike and portraying "indifference"...when their feelings, in reality, are just as resentful as OURS.
Some of us, like me, CRY IN PUBLIC. Because it's the greatest strength....the strength of honesty and vulnerability.
I am not a strong black woman. I am a LIVING woman. And I have learned...not to lessen my own torch so that others can be more comfortable and live off my sorrow and my "LACK" of status.

I admit I usually enjoy a catfight like all get out. But it seems now that that is what so frequently occurs here, it has all just become a blinding form of "WHITE noise" of which no one will be able to see clear of.
What should we do here?
Should we (incessantly) continue to belabor that which is clear and obvious: That since Moonsigns is a White woman she will invariably say/do things that appear insensitive and unsympathetic to Blacks and other minorities?
Will the revelations ever cease?
Well, as suggested by Cynique, I guess I don't much expect what either of us thinks/says will make much difference to what the other knows to be true.
At the risk of appearing arrogant, I'll say that I (you and others) daily offer here much for a A_womon and others to consider/use that have NOTHING to do with the concerns you express above. Thus, I would hope that they fairly weigh that against whatever differences we have concerning the (alleged) follies of White women.
Finally, I genuinely am concerned about what mating opportunities will be available to my daughters to love and marry. I, however, think the greatest trouble they face is not whether/if they will be displaced by White women.
Rather, I'm more concerned my daughters male peers will be drug addicted, mired in criminality, unproductive, physically/mentally impaired, "on the DL" and/or HIV/VD+. Because it is THOSE issues, not interracial coupling/marriage, that I foresee to be their/our gravest concerns. |

On a side note, people in general (all races included) are raising some really crazy children nowadays.

Just kidding! But really, I think our culture is producing some of the most selfish and lazy children EVER. I too, am curious about the opportunities that will be available to them --and I don't care what color/race person they marry either. QUALITY pickings seem rather slim across the board.

The very worst thing that anyone can appear to be these days is humble...or mortal.
Don't like those smile lines or crowfeet? Or those small breasts? Or lil' penis? Fine. No problem. Your friendly-neighborhood plastic surgeon will 'swing' right-on by and 'cure' you of whatever inadequacies nature dealt to you.
Everyone expects to be wealthy, beautiful, and famous. And we want all of those PRONTO...no matter the limitations our GOD and life circumstances imposes upon us or the cost of achieving the objects of our desires. And when you WANT it all no matter the cost you'll just about DO it all, again, no matter the cost.
All of that has bred very lazy and selfish people.
And (I agree that) in that regard we ALL are suffering.
My wife and I often fantasize about being allowed to "arrange" marriages for our daughters. And if you're willing to subject your sons to a battery of physical/mental/DNA/IQ exams/tests, I might be game. I'm still not paying any dowry, though.

Of course arranging your kids' marriage is neither possible nor even appropriate in this day-n-time. I suspect though as the divorce rates and single-parent households continue to ascend, we all may be compelled to reconsider how best to formulate happy/productive couples; irrespective of race/religion and, yes I suppose, sex/gender. |

You don't owe any dowry, but you too, must be willing to subject your daughters to "a battery of physical/mental/DNA/IQ exam/tests", too. And don't forget, the criminal backround/credit check is also a must (my male children subject to this as well --all is fair). If you're down, I'm down I'm sure the children will appreciate this! LOL!
All in all, I wonder how I'M going to handle this whole process. I'm very selective about who my children keep company with, my husband even moreso. There has to be an even balance in guiding them, as well as allowing them to make good choices for themselves.

If your sons are handsome, funny and pleasant, I imagine my eldest wouldn't mind checking them out. My youngest, though, I don't know...she's got a pretty fierce streak of independence in her.
Of course, their standards are SKYHIGH (they both think their dad can walk on water. ). So your sons had bettah be prepped to 'represent'!

I hope after all the testing, primping and prodding, the kids actually LIKE each other. Hehe!
Seriously, I don't expect to have much say in whom my kids mate with. And with girls I find I have to be careful to avoid being too deliberate and stern with how I steer them. I don't want to cow them into not enjoying their lives. And I don't want to spur on the rebel urge that will often cause even the most decent girl to do the opposite of what prohibiting parents would require.
I just do the best I can to provide them with rules, morals and standards that I hope will resonate within their minds, hearts and spirit. And when it is time for them to venture out into the world, I'll pretty much leave to GOD and them the marital choices they should make. |

I am skeptical of your persona for many reasons. Nevertheless, I do have to say, I disagree with some of your assertions.
It is an insult to suggest that black women "chase" black men away, especially considering black men still date/marry black women more than they do any other race of women. A point for you to consider, if you procreate with any of these black men who "love" you so, your children usually are considered black. By the standards of your words, your daughters may not even have a man, their men will have "no peace of mind" if they get a man, and if they have one, they will "run them away" --all because they are black!!!???!!!!!! I hope you think about the weight of your words, as they not only hurt your future children, but the lives of your boyfriend/spouses female relatives.
While I disagree with Kola and A_womon, I don't think their anger is rooted in jealousy. I think it is rooted in the desire to been seen as an equal in our culture (and the injustices that blacks in general face for the basic, human rights).
I handle my business in a way that is becoming of a human who wants her rights, but also the rights of others just as much.
Most of the stuff you have wrote thus far I totally disagree with. We are both white (maybe) and that may be our only common ground.

Kola, in agreement regarding what? As I said, I only read the first two posts in this thread because after that, they started getting negative. But I did like Moonsigns reply and the sincerity that came from it, as well as her reasoning for coming here.
As it refers to the ingrate poster, I'm not quite sure as I skim the threads and stop reading most time once the name-calling and other stuff starts. It's silly, and I don't like it. Sometimes I'm so shocked, I'm speechless and that in itself doesn't happen much.
But, I will say Kola that while I do try to support your books and wish you nothing but the best in your literary endeavors, some of the posts I've read by you make me sad. It's too much anger and negativity. I say let it go. Are these people's comments "really" worth your showing your behind and acting irate over? In my opinion, no. But again, we all have our styles on how we handle things. You have the choice not to respond.
I'm sure we can all get fired up, pissed off, and downright get our feelings hurt, but is this forum the place to display that to the world? Nope, I don't think so. Call your girlfriend, write in a journal, and abide by the "never let'em see you sweat" because in the end, they're only winning by causing you to be angry, unhappy, etc. It's just not worth it, IMO.

Well, MOON...I do apologize to you....for disrespecting your being, your heart, your family and your convictions.
I've been extraordinarily bitchy to you...mainly because with the work I do, I just found/find you so incredibly naive and annoying. And completely dishonest about your motives and your intentions.
But still, I was wrong to attack you so bitterly and with such racial vigor, coming from my own frustrations.
I certainly owe you an apology.
And now that I'm leaving the board, I feel it's only right to say that....for the sake of others knowing that I didn't think myself ENTIRELY right.
But life and time will show you a lot more truths underneath the ideals that you hold as truth, MOON...and perhaps by the end of it, you'll have a truly (invasive) understanding of my viewpoint as well.
I don't wish to know you. But in my heart, I don't have any genuine malice for you, either.
And by the way...I have enormous emotional and familial hardships to deal with right....and that is why I'm leaving. Not because of your presence or because of the constant unpleasantness of late.
It's just that I'm weak right now and I don't have the clarity, patience or DESIRE......to bicker and fight.
I need peace and quiet. And luckily there's a creek under the trees on the property...where I can just accept the fact that I'm stuck in the California desert with no people but a 5 yr. old and 7 yr. old.

This is strange. I got an email from Kola saying that all of this crap is some kind of trick. That
someone with some computer knowledge is 'fixxing' things to look like Jojo's posts are coming from her computer...BTW, Cynique---I saw that thing where Wysteria was calling herself all of these names and then 'lol' was at the end. What was that about? |

Maybe her story would be a bit more logical if it wasn't so freak in nature (how many times is a computer really "fixed" on a message board --never heard of such). I think the track record of all these various screen names doesn't help the situation either.
Strange is right! And to think she and A_womon were insinuating I created this mess --shameful! Nevertheless, the truth seems to be out and certain character traits are seen for what they are worth.

That's why TROY JOHNSON has brought me back.
SOMEONE...God knows WHO...really was tinkering with my PC and faked this person called "Jo Jo" using my IP and then made it look like I was attacking myself.
TROY wrote me an email.....admitting....that he couldn't PROVE or BE SURE that the IP address was actually mines.
And you might recall that just 2 weeks ago---Thumper claimed to have "access" to my PC and was going to get the "goods" on me.
Not only did I not create JO JO....but at about the same time....I was having a heart to heart with ABM about my feelings regarding MOON and the fact that I really did want us to be friends and that my apology to her was sincere and that I didn't think it was fair how viciously I had attacked her.
RIGHT THAT SAME MORNING....JO JO appears.
It wasn't me. And I'm glad that TROY has even greater PC power than the villain of villains....THUMPER.
You know how much they hate me, LAMBD.
You're one of the ones who REALLY KNOWS...just how much.

Just for the record, you're flattering yourself if you think I hate you, Kola. And I have never said to you or to anyone else that I hate you. You're not that important to me. You are someone with whom I disagree with about most things, but I don't feel the need to hate you for that. I like arguing with people, like making them defend their principles. Well as MALCOLM X said and I most definitely agree:
"Real change can only be brought about by Revolution...and you can't have real revolution without violence."
It doesn't mean we have to LIKE IT....or hold up "hate" as something good and healthy.
But there are times in people's reality when they need to harness and USE the power of their HATE for their own gain and their own good.
And it's totally and way too OCEANIC to make the blanket statement that HATE is counterproductive.
When I was in pshychiatric treatment....it was shown to me that HATE can indeed be shaped and twisted CHANGED...like turning glucose into sugar....to bring about a positive end.
NOTHING is all good.
NOTHING is all bad.
Too much Idealism, if anything, can be counterproductive.
But then WOMEN are taught to cling to "emotionally passive" conclusions...and MEN are allowed to live more in the reality, the true passion of life's circumstantial extremes.
And like thinking like a MAN...better than I like thinking like a woman.
