wysteria (and Abm), Any health/natural food store should carry high-quality, natural bristle brushes. Look for one that has a long handle, however, the actual brush should not be detachable. When brushing, always begin at the feet and always use upward strokes. 1) Brush soles and tops of feet 2) Using an upward motion, brush up the calves. Pay special attention around the back of the knees (lymph nodes). 3) Continue up the thighs. If one has cellulite, or tends to accumulate more fat in the thighs, brush the back of legs (or front) in a circular motion. However, always, always finish with an upward stroke. 4) Next, work on arms. Brush both the front and back of hands. Work up the forearm, again, paying close attention to the area between the forearm and upper arm (lymph node area). You can also use a circular motion in this area, but as always, finish with an upward stroke. 5) Upon finishing the arms, begin on the stomach. Work with upward strokes concentrating on the waist area. Try to do as much of your back as you. Avoid the chest area (breasts). 6) Finish by brushing from each shoulder, inward (towards the breastbone). Do this before getting into the shower. It removes dead skin and removes toxins from the body, as it stimulates the lympahtic system. Have fun!

Hi Moonsigns. Remember me. Your fair-weather friend, Cynique? I guess it's safe for me to talk to you again since there's no danger of a full moon changing folk into werewolves. Hoooowwwwl. So, anyway, in my last visit to a spa, I had the most delicious rub down, with the masseur using sugar as the exfoliate. Really invigorating! Ever tried that? BTW, pay no mind to me calling you a "pontificator." I was getting you mixed up with someone else. Never mind who. LOL. |

Cynique, How could I forget you? You're my favorite person at aalbc --intelligent and cool, especially when the heat is on. I respect you lots! I am really into holistic health and natural beauty care. I use sugar (body) polish all the time. In fact, I even make my own sometimes --it is so easy! I also like to blend essential oils and mix my own ingredients for my children's hair care products. I think I told you awhile back that I actually use skin care products that are based on lunar cycles. The company also has estheticians located throughout the US that offer various services and specifically use only their products. Having some services provided by them will be my next beauty splurge.

Wow. Sugar as an exfoliatant. That's really an idea. I'll have to look into that. Thanks Cynique. The sun in California is so damaging to the skin--it's not like African sun, because of the chemicals and smog here. For females, LAMBD, who are trying to stay soft and young looking without a face lift or other surgery--this isn't dumb, it's really seriously important. Thanks so much MOONSIGNS. I am so glad you directed me to this because I had never heard of Skin Brushing. I don't have wrinkles but my skin has loss some of its natural glow and it sometimes look flat and dried out when I put on makeup now. So this is good for me to try. ALSO...what about my other daily routine that I told you about with the buff puff, water, ice, etc.? Do you think it would damage my skin if I combined the two? Lastly...the skin on my body is really in fantastic shape, my feet look fine....it's my FACE and neck that seems to be aging separately from the rest of me.

MOONSIGNS...have I got something special for you. It's my special recipe for "detoxing". It'll make you lose 2 pounds and have your skin glowing INSTANTLY. But you can only do it twice a month to be safe and the effects only last a few days as far as the OUTSIDE looks. Gimme a minute while I make sure that I'm writing it down right. It's a really fabulous, natural and EASY solution.

wysteria, I wouldn't mess with that buff puff. If you said that you use that everyday and your face/neck seem to be aging moreso, I would stop at once. The skin, especially on the face/neck needs to be treated very gently. A buff puff is much too harsh. What is your skin type (oily, dry/combo)? I can give you more suggestions once I know. Skin brushing can be done along with any other skin care regimen, however, do not brush the face (unless you have a "complexion brush" --a small circular brush specifically for the face). If you want to use this, make sure it is with upward strokes. To produce healthy skin on the face and neck, use rosewater and glycerin toner. Burts Bees makes an excellent, high-quality product. When I wash my face at night, I use this afterward (NO nightcreme) and then some blended oils around my eyes and on my forehead. I will say, my skin on my face is very nice (very creamy/very glowing) --half genes and half healthy living/skin care. I love rosewater --it's wonderful for so many things!

MOONSIGNS, you need a juicer for these recipes....but you can also boil them into a broth (which I don't feel is as good)....anyway....the DETOX recipe (which is good for the Colon) will make you have to use the bathroom every 20 minutes ALL DAY...so you have to do that when you're home and have time to detox. When you juice, all your vegetables and fruits have to be fresh, free of pesticides, chemicals, color additives and hormones. Organic. From health food stores. Peel the skin off carrots and if you don't use organic. Drop garlic in vinegar for 1 minute before juicing to kill bacteria. Leave in all seeds except apple seeds, which contain cyanide. Remove the skin of citrus fruits except lemons. The first recipe is the detox juice which helps you to lose weight by flushing out your system, cleansing your colon and flushing water retention. You can juice in a juicer or also make it into a broth. If you broth, don't add any seasonings. DETOX JUICE 3 carrots 3 kale leaves 2 stalks celery 2 beets 1 turnip 1/4 lb spinach 1/2 head cabbage 1/4 bunch parsley 1/4 of an onion 1/2 clove garlic GREEN JUICE 4-5 carrots 3 sprigs fresh parsley 1 large handful spinach 1 large handful kale 1 beet, including tops 1 clove garlic, peeled 1/4 head cabbage Thoroughly wash all vegetables. Cut into small pieces. Process in juicer and drink immediately. ****Do not refrigerate as you lose enzymes. FRUIT JUICE 1 firm kiwi 1 small bunch red grapes 1 green apple 1/2 cup berries (blueberries, raspberries or blackberries) Thoroughly wash all fruit. Cut into small pieces. Process in juicer and drink immediately. Pour over ice if you wish or freeze. Add rice milk or soymilk or one banana if desired. Other healthful fruits which can be juiced are watermelons, apricots, melons, papaya, red apples, citrus fruits and pears. These are really wonderful (but easy) recipes that will make you feel energized, healthy and keep you quick. The KEY...is that all fruits and veggies must be ORGANIC. Otherwise, it won't do the trick.

MOON...I used to have combination skin, but in the last 4 years it's evened out and is pretty much NORMAL. Neither dry or oily. What has gone...is the natural moisture that made it glow. Yes--I use the Buff Puff very gently. Maybe you're right. I should give it a rest. We'll see. I actually got great results when I started using it, because my pores have shrunken and tightened my face just as the dermatologist said they would. The cold water and ICE help tremendously. As for aging...I'm kind of exaggerating. Most people claim that I look like a normal, healthy 36 yr. old. I just want to look younger and more refreshed. I won't lie. If I had the money--I'd seriously look into some plastic surgery. A few nips and tucks, but I'm so PARTICULAR....there's only one plastic surgeon that I'd ever trust. Dr. Norman Leaf. He does Shari Belafonte Harper's plastic surgery. HE IS AMAZING!!! His women look incredible and you really can't tell---which is rare, trust me, because P/S often makes you look worse. If I can't get Norman Leaf, then I won't do it. And he charges like $10,000 just for an eye lift!! Plus...I think 36 is waaaaayyy too young for P/S. Then again...I'm in the public eye a lot now and because I jinxed myself by creating this sexy persona...people come expecting me to be like that in person. THey get disappointed if I'm not everything they think I am. So I feel that pressure.

Thanks for sharing! I will definitely try this. It may scare some, but I also believe in colonhyrdrotherapy (cleaing the colon out with warm water). I go every once in awhile for a "good" cleanse. This would be great to use before one of my sessions. Yes, organic is best. I use many, many organic products, from food to body care. Thanks again, I will whip out my juicer shortly Have you ever tried wheatgrass juice? Talk about major detoxing --that stuff is NO joke. The kids run every time we juice that stuff!

Ladies, Thanks! It seems like yawl relaying some GREAT info here. Playing with girls can be such fun! Miss_wysteria, Sounds like you need to apply a sun-protectant over your moisterizer. That will help you maintain that youthful glow. Cynique, Have you ever tried rolfing. I did once. It was quite an experience. Thumper, I see you like your food to sorta multi-task. Ben & Jerry's as a laxative, huh? Who would have thought getting 'regular' could taste so good? Moonsigns, What do you recommend for razor bumps. Got only a couple of'em. But the one's I've got hurt like hellfire. Fellas, I don't know 'bout the rest of you, but I'm feeling 'gayer' by the moment. |

wysteria, Look into taking essential fatty acids. EFA's are great for everything imaginable --a 2:1 ratio is best, omega 3's being higher than the omega 6's. Udo's Oil Blend is the best. Do a google search and you will find incredible info on this stuff. You can find it at any reputable health food store. Take 1 tablespoon for every 50 lbs. of body weight. It mositurizes the skin and hair from inside out. It makes the skin like velvet --amazing! Abm, For razor bumps --look into buying a complexion brush and use upward strokes, as I told wysteria. It loosens the hair the hair that has the potential to get stuck, hence, cause the "razor bump". Use the complexion brush at night. Also use it in the a.m. before you shave. Witch Hazel w/ aloe is also great to use at night. For bumps that hurt, try calendula ointment. It is incredibly soothing and healing for the skin. You're not "gay" either. Men need to take care of themselves! I'll write more later.

I'm with you, Thumper, about the merits of good ol leafy greens, the ultimate in fiber and roughage. They're also an anti-oxidant. And we all know that when it comes to clear skin and a smooth complexion, nothing will serve you better than a set of good genes. Also, dermatolgists claim that in spite of all of the extravagant claims and beautiful packaging, no beauty aid is a better moisturizer than just regular old cold cream. |

I know y'all aint seriously listening to that Moonmaiden about taking care of your skin! She could be purposely trying to mess y'all up. You know she got something against black folks. Slow poison, grown men brushing their face. All of y'all are gonna look in the mirror one day and scare yourself half to death. Cuz a brushed face peck gonna be starin' back at ya! Hahahah! Y'all need to mix some collards with some mustards and drink plenty of water. Abm, them aint shaving bumps, them is non shaving bumps. In the service, they tell you its called psuedofolliculitus barbae. Latin for "false hair follicles". When BLACK MEN that have curly facial hair don't shave everyday, the hair curls up and tries to grow back into your face. It usually gets infected and causes a nasty little bump. Most of the time if you let your beard grow, it will run its course. But if you shave irregularly(i.e. every other day, every two days etc.) it'll get irritated and get worse. What most dermatologists suggest is that you let your beard grow until the bumps disappear and then shave the hair off and keep it off. Unless of course you want to keep the beard. Either way, I'm sure you'll continue to 'feel pretty'. |

Lambd, Thanks for the good info/advice. Its not that bad. I only have a couple of recurring bumps that appear 'round my Adam's Apple. Bugs the crap out of me, though. I would prefer to shave my beard daily. But my skin is so sensitive and I am light enuff in skin color that after shaving my face I often look damn-near 'burgundy' (which for some strange reason my wife kinda digs). BTW: Who taught you how to shave/groom? I had to pretty much pick up those skills on my lonesome. |

Udo's Oil Blend. Thanks, MOON. I'm getting that today. Also...I got my brush. It feels so-so GOOOOOOOOOD. It's kind of an "aphrodisiac", you know. You feel freaky after you've stood naked and dry--brushed the skin on your body. LOL. I DO feel my blood circulation responding, too, and I did feel "hyped" afterwards like you said. It makes you tingle. And thanks, Cynique, I use cold cream to moisturize...and yes, ABM, I wear a 40SPF sunblock everyday....and yes, LAWD...I been eating greens and grains all my life.

LAMBD and ABM...my brother (who you saw at the event, LAMBD, he was onstage at the opening).....had his face lasered on the part where he had hair bumps. He said they stung and hurt really bad all the time. Now he's free of them for life, but he still has the rest of his hair. Apparently it's certain parts of men's faces that the skin tissue is more dense and rough and it causes the hair to curl in backward, because the skin isn't soft enough for the hair to push outward. Those rough skin areas on the chin is where they laser-beamed and killed the follicles. Or something like that. Just a thought.

wysteria, Skin brushing is wonderful for your body. The "tingle" you feel is from increased blood circulation and lymphmatic stimulation. Do this everyday (in the a.m. and the p.m. --before showering), twice for extra smooth skin and extra internal cleansing. In combo w/ the Udo's, your skin will absolutely glow! EFA's are great for children as well. Just make sure to use 1 Tbsp. for every 50 lbs. of body weight. I give it to my children. You can mix it in yogurt, make salad dressing with it, or put it in hot cereal/soup (after it is taken off the heat/stove). DO NOT COOK WITH IT --it is an unrefined, coldpressed oil.

Miss_wysteria, You know, By George I think she's got it! Because the problems DO occur where the skin's a bit ruffer. You wear moisterize/sunblock and STILL have dry skin? Something's seems amiss, Baby. Maybe you should mix up either or both. Cuz something taint workin'. Or you're lacking something in your diet. I have considered laser treatment. Well, okay, my wife has 'considered' it FOR me. I, however, am more chicken than a hooker in Bible study to have any elective surgery. So lemme check out Lambd/Moonsigns advice 1st. But if things worsen, maybe I go under the ("GULP!!") knife. Miss_wysteria says: "You feel freaky after you've stood naked and dry--brushed the skin on your body." ABM says: Girl. You are such a shameless tease. Hehe! Moonsigns, I know you lookin' out, Snowflake. No need fo' trynah show-n-prove. I been too good to yah fo' you to let me down. Yeah. I suppose I do kinda grow on yah. But don't worry. A few cc's of penicillin and you'll be spanking new. By-the-by. I got a couple of pimples on my @$$. What do I do to get rid of'em? And come on now. Don't front. Cuz surely someone with the moniker MOONsigns knows how to handle THOSE. HEHE! WOW! And I thought that I would just hang-out in hur to goof off. But this has actually turnout to be not only an enlightening topic, it has also been fun too. Hey! Is 'this' the kinda stuff girls talk about all the time when guys aren't around? If so, no wonder yawl like to go to public washrooms together. |

I don't have dry Skin, ABM. Can you read? I simply have lost the GLOW OF YOUTH and now have to manufacture it...rather than wake up with it, naturally. As we age, our pores get larger and they make the skin less supple and less taut. The skin begins to hang off the bone. The eyes become less sparkling. The lips become less defined and they also become loose.

Abm, Gosh, leave it to you to tell me you have pimples on your azz --LOL! Brush your skin and buy a good "scrub". You can find one at any reputable health food store. Jason company (a natural beauty care company) makes two that I think are pretty good. Don't buy one from a beauty supply store, or Target, the products have too many chemicals in them. Give that a try, it should do the trick Your wife will love the new and improved, pimple-free bum --it will glow and be smooth like butter

MOOON...Abm...has a crush on you. I can tell. He's just torn between his position with others on the board and his loyalty to his loin bravado. Those pimples on his arse are nothing compared to the ones UNDER his tongue. But, he's my man and I love him. LOL Don't take him seriously. The "sex jokes" just mean you've been accepted for THE DOZENS, which leads to....their true faces.

Moonsigns, Moonsign says: "Sorry, I don't pick his azz." ABM says: Why? The vows said "...for better or worse." Well, it don't get much 'worse' than that. Thanks for your concern, though. Me and my @$$ are so grateful, you've got us smiling from cheek-2-cheek. Miss_wysteria, Hey Dr. Joyce Brothers! The only thing I'm torn over is whether to use my left or right hand when my wife is out of town visiting relatives. And didn't I tell you 'bout trynah put the c@#$block on whattah brothah's trynah deal? Moonsigns and A_womon's big enuff to take ' care demselves. ABM...I'm not trying to block you from those other women. I'm trying to make Moonsigns realize that your smart alek remarks are only because you really like her. If you didn't, you wouldn't talk to her at all. And as I said...you do have a crush on her. I can tell. If I didn't have one on LAMBD, I would be terribly jealous right about now. **fixing your tie** But I'm not at all. And everyone knows that you and I have vowed never to meet in person. Although I miss our chit chats AWAY from the board. And miss you in general. Bad rebel.

Hi Carey! Thanks, your greeting warmed my heart! True the ambiance of the board, as a microcosm, reflects the changes in the larger society. Change has brought the bitter (explicit XXX sexual, double entendre & scatology (know which post to avoid)with the sweet. Thankfully the sweet cancels the bitter, it informs me of literary,socio-political issues and increased vocabulary that is non-existent in my small world. Except as cited above, the board is mentally stimulating and has prompted exploration of issues that my generation talks about, but do not understand. I.e., Impressed by Yokio's posts and the visual image that he presented of himself; untied Timberlands (had a young man at church show me a pair), then noticed the shirt draped over the cell phone, then researched hip-hop/urban culture/social movement???. With a better understanding of current social changes, now when I see a young man in such attire, I try not to despair---might be another Yokio behind that facade. Sometime I think of posting, then realize/accept that my parade has passed (pushing 4 score),then become content to set on the sideline, watch and cheer as the next generation parades into a future that I'll never know. Thanks for sharing the lovely photo of you and Ms. Ann. She is as I imagined from your many references that made her a real presence on the board.

Miss_wysteria, Moonsigns would appear to be an enlightened and wary woman. She should know what this is...and is NOT. I doubt she require you to be her interpreter. And if she does, shame on her. "The wind blows where and when the spirits would have it to flow. If grace be yet on we again in discretion, luxuriate in our dalliance. But if the zephyr is ever done, just remember how the breeze felt upon thine bare privacy when you were alone and no one else could see you. And ." **unbuttoning your blouse** |

Why do I always want to call you "Lambda", instead of "Lambd"?? "Lambda" is the Greek letter for "L". "L" as in - what? Oh, I don't know. "Lusty." |

Cynique, Yeah. In one my less responsible moments, I tried suggesting as much to the Missus (Come on now, ain't a dad alive who haven't at least 'thought' as much). But both those chicks look like mini versions of my mother (and they've got mama's "I ain't takin' no $#@+ from nobody" attitude taboot). So I end-up looking kinda dumb. 'Sides, der's no gettin' 'round doze dang DNA tests (...yet). |
