Hey, Gang. Its been a wild ride. Love all of you good people, but alas, I must go. I may continue to read in the future when I start missing some of the weirded out comments, but I probably will not post. All of you are great people, but some are too good for my tastes. Censorship is never a good thing, even though sometimes it is needed. Try to digest that! What I'm trying to say is, people should always be able to say what the mean and how they feel. However, the element of offending another, sometimes undeserving party, has to be taken into consideration. I try really hard to monitor myself, and to police myself, but I tend to be vicious at times. My idea of interjecting humor in alot of situations comes off entirely too harsh. The best way to fix this problem is to do like A_woman said and to "Awwwwshaddddupppp!" And so my friends, I will bid you 'Adieu'. Shout out to my partner in grime_________Abm>>>Hold it down in here.

Come on, Lambd, baby, it ain't that serious. You've allowed to happen to you what happens to a lot of us from time to time. We let this board frustrate and get the best of us. This cyber world becomes all to real to us and we take on a cyber identity that not only emboldens us, but often distorts us. Within the confines of posts, opinions are attacked, ideas defended, anger ignited, feelings hurt, indignations stirred, flirtation engaged in, seductions pursued, secrets revealed. But that's the beauty of it. At the end of the day we all go back to the real world, aware that for a brief period in time we have participated in something rather extraordinary. Sight unseen, strangers became acquaintances. Yes, we have all gotten carried away, but so damn what? As I said previously, your assets far outweigh your liabilities. You are not only very intelligent, but you have an incredible sense of humor and a remarkable way with words. You added a very special flavor to the board and it just won't be the same without you. So, don't kick us to the curb. OK, take a break, But come back soon. BTW, give ol Kola my "regards."

btw, DC men --my girlfriends and I have a joke about them, as we have all dated men from DC, one married a guy from DC. I won't go into detail, but they are truly different, trust that!
lastly, I think your womon was just flip'in out, so you are still 'lil lambd to me. However, if she wasn't and you truly think I'm a b*t*h, grow some bigger bal*s and defend what you like, no matter what!

But Lampd,
What's up man, the heat wasn't on you, S*&T. No one can stand up and say they are clean......NO ONE. But I know the feeling of thinking the finger is pointed at oneself. I've cringed a many days upon writing something and then later thinking that it wasn't a very good idea. Lets make no misstake about it, you have given many something to smile and laugh about. Yeah, you got a little funky sometimes but who hasn't. I don't know if I should take your holla out to me as a jab or what but hey, you've always done it with style.......nasty but with style  . nevertheless I feel you when you say some of the lit threads can be long and hard to join in on. AND you have to read the books. That has always pissed me off *smile*. So young man, thanks for the raised hand but it isn't necessary because you can't raise your hand if we are all holding them. As I tell all that look at the door with that gazed look, turn away, look back and come back. Just jack-up your slacks (your a black man so I know you know how to do that) and get your nasty behind back in the game.
Check this out. All of us have at one time or another thought that our departing would be the end of this place. So we would bid our fairwell with all the clever prose that we could muster and then wait. Wait for the ground to fall beneath AALBC. And you know what? It's still here. It will always be here. It might hit a bump and slow to a crawl BUT it will crawl and some day raise again. It will stand up being supported by others with names like Teengurl, or Bookme, Ralph, Sistaman, Author1 and Darnell. Right now someone is making an AALBC postee. The board may limp along.....been there. But it will survive. If there are authors out there reading this and I'm sure they are, they can't wait for their next book to be on the lips of Thumper and his gang, old and new. So Lampchop, thanks for the compliment.....(I think) you don't have to go!

Here's the thing. It is a simple yet profound thing about who I am: I ain't skurrd of White people. Now, I know most of us will loudly blare out the same. But the true is we all often act like we are afraid.
But I have been blessed to learn (ad nauseum) just how 'mortal' Whites are. And that's because over the course of my life, my relationships with Whites have run the gammit.
I have had whites as bosses and lackeys, teachers and students, friends and nemesis, lovers and antagonists, partners and competitors, vendor and clients, etc. I have had a White guy cry in arms after learning his wife was screwing his neighbor. And I have tearfully kissed another White man who safely delivered by 30-week, 2 lbs baby into the world.
So I have long since gotten over much of the irrational hatred, fear and 'mythology' that both they and we have created/perpetuated about them.
Hey. If White chicks or dudes wants to hang here. I say kewl. It ain't gonna slow my roll one iota. I am going to continue to tell the truth about us and them as best I see. Moreover, and you should have noticed that by now, I am going to make fun of the similarities/contrasts between us. I utterly suggest that we all do the same.
Okay, the (horror-of-horrors!) "Moonsigns is White!" thing is BIG now. But hey, that will fade. And either she will settle into and enhance the illustrious tapestry that is Thumper's Corner...or she will, like a myriad other before her, fade away into the cybernetic eternity.
Because, either way, like Carey so eloquently explained, Thumper's Corner will survive. And it will because the concept of what this place is all about - freeflow of lively, informative, provocative discussion/info about AA books/culture - prevails over/above the designs/actions of any one or even a few individuals...even if said individuals just happen to be White. |

I was more concerned about the manner in which I was making my point. Now yes, Im gonna be me and I aint lettin NO ONE change who I am. Now, we all know that certain things aint supposed to be allowed on AALBC, but so far, Im the ONLY one, well I take that back ME and Justwrite are the only ones who've had to pay up when it came time to collect the fines for unThumperlike behavior on this board. So that is always in the back of my mind while I'm posting. Now, I was moving into this grey area again and wasn't sure how close I was coming to the line of demarcation, so that's why THE ONLY REASON WHY I was taking a break.

One more thing: I was never for your, Justwrite, Kola's or ANYONE else being 'suspended' from visiting this site. As "skewed" my way of thinking may be, I find the very notion of such to be intellectually and morally offensive. I have repeatedly expressed such. But what happened to you all were the product of decisions made by another. All I ask is you (& others) do not 'blame' myself and others for a decision that, to my knowledge, can only be made by 2 guys whose moniker's begin with the letter "T".
But I can better appreciate and understand how your experience effects what you think/do here. |

I found this spot by accident one day, while searching for a particular publishing company. Well when I plugged in "The Coldest Winter Ever" the thread about Thumpers corner discussing this book popped up. I clicked on it and well the rest is history...
I started reading in the archives just like Rashena is doing now, and when I looked up it was TWO days later, my whole weekend was shot, but I was grinnin from ear to ear. Now, in my head I was thinkin, damn! An AA resource for black writers AND readers too. WOW I never knew a place like this existed. And so I was HYPE I mean, I was amped. A place where I could, read, talk about it, and post about it. Mind you, this is the first place I ever posted, I thought this ish was for the birds, you know, I thought people who did this kind of stuff HAD to be lonely and not have a life... boy was I wrong!!
It's just addictive, like cynique said. And that's the short version of why I post here...to be continued.... |

Okay. I have said something to this effect before to Yukio: It is not what you say, its how you say it.
See. I am 'old'. So is Thumper, Troy, Cynique, Chris, Carey...etc. et. al. We 'speak' in a similar, if not entire the same, tempo/dialect. Yeah, I admit that I (and Lambd) often have definitely strayed off the primrose path. But if you look clearly, you will see that I will say almost ANYTHING...BUT...big BUT here...I will only say it a CERTAIN way. It's that clever/smart@$$ gene that I am both blessed/cursed with (that dang Lambd's got it in spades).
Also, you know, everyday, in countless ways, people say the most critical, insulting and even horrendous things about each other. But they say them a CERTAIN way. So they get away with it.
Also, I think that what is happening with you may be a product of the proverbial generation gap. Face it, you younger foks often come off to Geritol set as being a bit confrontation (if not downright violent).
We have had this discussion before. I am not saying you should 'change' who you are. But I suggest that you consider that if you do indeed aspire to be a successful author, perhaps you can use your visits here to slightly alter your writing persona, just a tad. |

Yall assumed u knew me...and my prior behavior was incompatible with comment about your genatalia...the difference really wasn't your socalled CERTAIN way but that this is your comrades house and you're consistently foul mouthed...no your behavior did not stand out...

There is the ol' men's team and then the ol' team. my dear, you sometimes belong to the latter(though u seem to hate to be boxed in as i do, which is why we get along)...

You'd be surprised how many people your age there are in my family, none of whom are as aggressive as you. And as Amb said, all of us regular hell raisers do temper our tones and do say tongue-in-cheek things. And there are subtle differences between me and you, because nobody never lectured me or told me to simmer down. People actually seemed to enjoy the way me and Kola went at it because our confrontations actually had comic undertones,and I rarely used profanity. Yet, everybody seems to notice that you have a short fuse and a chip on your shoulder. But, go ahead and be who you are. That's your prerogative, something I'm sure I don't have to tell you. |

I agree that us ol' foks, the 'yutes' often appear usually defensive and hostile. But (to speak) on their behalf, I credit that to their being born in a world that seems to grow increasingly competitive and confusing. Standards and rules are as inconsistent as they are fleeting. Old friends are new enemies. No one grows up with (or even knows) his or her father. Wars are fought for ambiguous reasons. And making love with someone can kill you.
I believe all of that and countless other issues have helped breed a generation of people who are (and perhaps rightly so) antagonistic and confrontational. |

I don't understand why you (appear) to want to quarrel about perceptions that are as varied and unique as fingerprints.
What is your beef anyway? That you were in some way punished or that myself, Lambd and others have not, per your view, been treated in kind?
I have already said I disagree with the prior suspensions. I just tried to note how subtle differences in age/style might cause others to view/respond differently to what has been posted.
But hey, I am not owner/manager of this site. Ultimately, it is up to them to decide what is/isn't acceptable.
And why would I enjoy some advantage here?
Why/how would it benefit Troy/Thumper to grant such to me when I have no special, unique relationship with them. I am not an owner/sponsor of this site. I hock no books here. Heck. We don't REALLY know each other from Adam. Frankly, if Thumper told me scram for good, I can not foresee that his doing that would in anyway negatively impact him or this site.
So while I appreciate how you feel/think. This favoritism that you infer that I and others enjoy would not appear to add up.
You have every right to feel as you do. But why blame me for your receiving a punishment that I myself would argue should have never happened to begin with? |

You are coming back for what? --to try to put a "wild azz lame duck" in check. If you could first keep yourself in check maybe that would work, however....... I have zero respect for your tantrums, especially because you refuse to grow up. If I was everything you say I am, you wouldn't dare give me your power, time and attention. I think you don't take so much issue as to what I say, it's just that it's coming from a white woman that bothers you so much. Time still moves even if you choose not to. White women and white women w/ black men (interracial love regardless of the coupling) isn't going anywhere just because you don't like it. It will only be your problem until you choose otherwise, and only your life will suffer. Have fun --cause the people out there lov'in and sex'in sure are and not thinking a thing about you! Know this though, a confident, grown woman can be funny, serious, sensual, flirtatious, intelligent, beautiful, gifted, sexy, smart-a$$, confrontational, tender, gentle, strong, AND HIGHLY spiritual without compromising her feminine principle. My greatest assest as a woman is that my nature is multi-dimensional. I will work the sh*t out of it according to circumstance. When another woman complains about it, I know that they don't understand or possess this innate, feminine gift (though all can have it). I can be sweet as pie, or as rough and turbulent as the roaring sea, however, it is what element that you choose to deal with me that you will see the most. Beauty or beast? You choose beast. I asked that people watch where they step in my garden. I love my flowers and will share them freely, just don't stomp on them.

abm: no beef...i just made statements. It is not conscience, it is, however, the way power works...it is similar to the comment i made to moonsigns...it also applys here: when u are the standard, you have the convenience of not care and as important benefiting from your status.

Well, since I'm often considered a flashpoint, why is it I never get deleted or suspended? You know why? Because I really think the powers-that-be can discern that although I am sarcastic, I am not vindictive, that my humor is sly, but not malicious, that I am naughty, but not vulgar. And deep down inside, I like really like everybody, and this includes Moonsigns and Kola nut. And to me, the situation with Moonsigns is a test case for how the young and old react. A-womon and Yukio were spazzing out over everything she said! And what were us "old" folks doing? Well, she and I were discussing the moon and Viggo. I was able to excuse her for being so "well-meaning". What was Abm doing? Alternating between flirting with her and engaging her in a civil discourse. What was Lambd doing? Speculating about her butt size and throwing her an occasional zinger. Chris Hayden? He was off into his thing, wondering about vampires and Oprah. Carey? He kept a low profile with his grumbling. I'm not saying that one reaction is better than the other but, - I'm thinking it. LOL |

I think that if a lot more black people had "spazzed out" long time ago, maybe some REAL change would have been continually made and wouldn't have stopped with some of the old school spazzers. It wasn't personal w/me; it was amusing. I called her arrogant cuz she thought she understood. Yet, if she did, there wouldn't have been a reason to take my post out of context. So, in my opinion, I thought it amusing that she (1) wouldn't acknowledge she didn't understand, (2) feign innocence and surrpise about the unsolicited apology case, and (3) place peace and respect at the end of her posts....I was joking wit her...abm style w/a spice of bx/harlem usa!
Don't assume, cynique. Try to see me as a person w/o the generational b/s. I've heard what she has said before, long, long ago. Remember, I've had these debates w/u and others years ago, and it wasn't new or mind changing THEN. The pity of this discussion, is that I wasn't even talkin about "generation" and I wasn't even arguing w/moonsigns.
Personally, and now this is a generational observation, when MANY of u give your advice, make declarations, and generalization, you OFTEN do it w/o respect to myself and others. SO, here it is my IMPRESSION that u can't read or hear me but because u choose not to.

I made observations, as you have. I've set no standards...Where have i done this? Is this your interpretation or my intent? And does it really matter what the author of the words mean?
(2)And don't you find it odd that you OFTEN have a problem with others fully understanding and appreciating the points you are trying to make? I thinks the application of a lil' "wisdom" might guide you to a mutually beneficial answer to that question.
Rather than ask the question, answer it for me(really yourself) since u seem to want to drop some "wisdom."
I don't have a problem w/people understanding me. I have a problem with people telling me what I meant. I don't expect people to understand me "fully" because it is impossible to understand anyone "fully," especially in this form of communication. I also notice that some people don't read eachother's posts; people are also selective in what they want to respond to, people also take things out of context, others figure they already have you pegged and they don't have to read what is written...there are many variables and possibilities. I know I don't "fully" understand, anyone. I also believe that words are slippery, and we have to try to decipher their connotative and denotative meaning...as cynique also mentions...impressions, they have to be deciphered, as well as tone...
I tend to write declaratively...and i spice my prose w/ relative verbs, as u picked up "often." As, i write, read, and understand my writing, it is impersonal.
When I have a general idea of a persons post, I make a comment. If they correct me, then they do so, and its all to the good. I try to ask questions about what people mean rather than assume I "fully" understand them. |

ABM and Bleek, your remarks reminded me of how this white composer who wrote "It's a Hard Knock Life" for the Broadway musical "Annie" had at first refused when Jay Z wanted to sample this song on one of his album cuts. Naturally, this guy didn't want to be associated with the black Rap music scene. But once those royalty checks started rolling, he developed a whole new outlook and let it be known he was open for any more samplings that any other rapper wanted use. It's all about the Benjamins. Oh, I'm so sorry i missed all this conversation...but I had to run off to my 25yr class reunion, and let me tell you..it was the bomb! Talk about OLD SCHOOL, my brothers and I do love them came in there with matching suits and hats, gotta love them! I ain't seen so much sheen in years LOL. We danced to Flashlight, GetOff, and all sorts of old stuff...we did the Soul Train line, robot, spank and bumped, okaaaaay. Some of us a little rounder and more robust, but we all still get down, but how about those haters....why sisters wanna hate cuz you still holding your own...after 25 years, yeah, it was all good!
BTW...Cynique, girl, I love By the Time I get to Phoenix, it's the song I put on when I'm feeling down, bc the way Isacc sings that song, ain't nobody more down than that brother, "7 times she cheated on him and seven times he took her back...". I got the best of Isacc Hayes, and I have to play "Walk on By" on the highest level just so I can hear those funky live strings....ain't nothing like it.
I feel really bad bc at the reunion I couldn't hardly remember anyones name, and alot of faces, but everyone knew me...i told him it was age and stuff, but I had a really good time, don't nobody do it like Gary, or maybe except Chicago, and then again, Detroit...all you all know what I mean, it's just something about that area, "We just cool!" |

All those ol white middle-aged men couldn't get enough of schmoozing with us black women who they had apparently acquired a taste for over the years. I didn't buy one drink that night but my glass was never empty. We had a lot of Italians in our class, and one table of them looked a crew of mafia hit-men. Ahhh, memories. |

Yep Carey and Cynique....I did have a ball, nothing like reminiscing about old times. We had a class of 690, and I think it was about 85 people there. No Carey, no old bf's, I happened to date out of my class during my entire time in high school, under, and upper but hardly ever the same class. But it was all good and worth the trip! |
