One person who may be a good source to prove/disprove whether or not the Governor's Art Gallery exists would be the author Solomon Jones. If I'm not mistaken, he is from Philly and was/is a staff writer for the Philadelphia Weekly. I would think that he would know a little something about an event exclusive enough to be by "invitation only" Don't you think? I would certainly ask him about it. |

The Govenor's Art Gallery...dearest one...belongs to the former Govenor and is part of his estate. Hence the notation that my "fundraiser" for the Sudanese Children's Fund is by invitation only and not for the general public.
I would just like to SEE author Solomon Jones put his foot in this on behalf of Liberti and yourself.

Jealousy is a recurring charge hurled at any female who clashes with Kola Boof. I, myself, have been accused of it every time I challenge Ms Boof's penchant for misprepresenting herself in order to promote her self-serving agendas. But tell me, why would any woman be jealous of another woman who is infamous, not famous, - who has notoriety, not success, - whose past is sordid, and whose present life, according to her, is in danger and who, because of this, is restricted in travel and mostly confined to her house??? Yet, - nobody is perfect, and in spite of all of this Kola Boof could inspire the unanimous admiration and acclaim she so desperately craves. All she need do is cast aside her deceitfulness and be honest. She speaks as a liberated woman, but she remains the slave of her ego, and the servant of her vanity, the consummate diva destined to garner as much rejection as acceptance. |

Is that my only quality, Cynique? Deceitfulness?
Or could it be that your own prejudiced jaundiced eye labels my AMBITION and CUNNING to fit your own agenda?
What part of my life's experience--have you been through and survived?
It was me, after all, who once asked my Agent to represent YOU...me, who wrote glowing letters to Editors at Publishing Houses, alerting them that you were a talented writer and deserved to have your name on their "up and coming" lists.
I still have the email where you thanked me for being "a sister" and thanked me for using my own position--to further your own.
The fact that I was trying to forge a friendship with you--trying very hard to be accepted by you--never rated a blimp in your psyche.
Troy Johnson, the owner of this site, has benefitted, greatly and financially, from the generosity and Sincerity of my spirit and my beliefs. Ask him. Not only him, but many others who didn't ask for my help when their bookstores were facing closure and eviction...were quite shocked when I made myself of service to them and tried to help in any way that I could.
I've also helped any and everyone that it was in my power to help and be a supporter of. Because this isn't an easy business to catch a break in. I have used what little GOD has given me...to help my friends. Many can attest to this particular QUALITY in Kola Boof.
What exactly I have done that is "deceitful"...I don't know. You never seem to say specifically what (earthshattering) deceptions I've caused.
At the present time....I have been given CLEARANCE by the U.S. government to go on a tour to speak about my life, about Sudan and to raise money for the children suffering in the war in Sudan.....a war that caused me to witness both my parents murdered in my presence as a small child and caused me to be adopted by Black Americans--the Johnsons--of Washington, D.C.
You're right, I could be killed on this tour. But then again...so what. I've survived the two most dangerous and powerful terrorists in the world...Turabi and Bin Laden. Why would I fear for my life at this point..when it's very likely that I will be killed someday anyway???
I might as well use my life..while I have one.
I have survived great, great suffering Cynique. And instead of becoming a drug addict or tragic prostitute...I became a literary writer, and a good one. Young and sometimes immature, certainly, but still--a noteworthy person, with a very unusual life experience and much to share. You've always held that against me or felt that I should be limited to sharing my life with the world. For instance--Terry McMillan's publicity machine is cleaner than Kola Boof's...or Walter Mosely's is, right?
I'm a very insecure displaced human being--of course I have Vanity.
My grandmother put me up for adoption for being "Black". Something that will DESTROY your soul unless you develop a certain amount of....VANITY.
Your constant evil attack on me, your lies...and the lies of Thumper and others against me...much of it borne from your typical Black American Snotty Self-Righteous Conservative Ignorance and Judgementalism...will not be enough, even as they infuse the Prayers of your crab-beating heart, to destroy me, my work and what I stand for.
I don't care how deceptive I am.
And perhaps we should be big enough to ask God just how "deceitful" I am in comparison to many others who, unlike me, keep their personal lives to themselves and are not as ambitious or colorful or "interesting".
I have extended constant and true kindness to you, to Thumper, to Linda and to everyone else who allowed me to do so. But of course, I can't....be honest with you/get to know you....if you won't let me.
Which you haven't. You never have. You've always spewed your ersatz judgements--with superior aplomb--and then trashed me...ANY WAY that you could think of.
I promise you Cynique...that I will get any more admiration and acclaim than what is do to me...by God's will.
I am a human being and a very wounded, traumatized but talented and emotional woman who makes mistakes and lives her life like any other human being. I have offered my real true self...the good and the bad...to everyone here. And few were intelligent enough to recognize that not everyone comes from the same set of ideologies and backgrounds.
I am different.
And when I reached out and tried to connect with you and others...it became a battle, a war of prejudices and pettiness. My only sin being that I am a crafty/clever/powerful enough person to spar and barb with the best of you--and it's that strength of mines you never forgive me for.
I have tried in earnest to leave that behind. But you, Thumper and others have not allowed me...no matter how I tried to get understanding from you...to do that.
I am not a slave to my ego. I am a slave to a river inside me that is far deeper, more complicated and more infinitely painful than mere ego.
And you should weigh your own ego right about now, because as always--you've got a fat head.
I cook fat heads for a living.
People like yourself, Liberti and A_Womon can hurl all the unfair attacks and snotty comments that you wish...but it won't change my path or the purpose that God has for me.
I am not perfect. I am a woman and a child of God, like everybody else.

I concur ABM, it IS amusing (though tragic) sometimes to spy crabs in a barrel.
When I first came to this country and my Black American mother tried to explain that concept to me--I thought she was joking.
But now aged and tired...what with the fight to be heard as an activist-writer against the backdrop of the dominant white culture and the white media that prohibits any positive images of Africa or its children or their apoptic cultures...I have now, too, become equipped at dealing with the very actual and factual phenomena of "crabs in a barrel".
I have at least your support and understanding. Oh, and let me thank both Carey and Lamb for their beautiful, very kind and loving letters. Those are two smart, snazzy brothers--and very sensitive.

In the past, Kola Boof, I have reprimanded you for your presumptuousness in trying to inject yourself into my writing careeer. Nobody asked you to do whatever it is you claim you did, and I have never really appreciated you taking it upon yourself to play my benevolent sponsor. Yes, I sent you an e-mail, my "courteous" response to your voluntary intrusion into my writing career. I told you then that if I decided to take you up on your offer to refer me to your agent, I would get back to you. And I never did, because I wasn't interested in your patronage. I am astute enough to know that my style of book does not yet have a niche in the publishing industry. But you just don't get it. You can't seem to accept that I never have been interested in your "help." And this is because you have such a need to play the magnanimous bestower. Yeah, I may have referred to you as my "sister" in the past, but, so what? I call a lot of women my "sister."
I have never denied that you have your fans, but I just don't happen to be one of them. Why? I just trust my intuition; and I will continue to view you with a leery eye. So be it. |

You never wrote any emails telling me NOT to help you or that you weren't interested.
What happened...is that you and I got into it on this board over comments I posted about your book, because after finishing it...I noticed a certain "waspish flavor"--which I thought was odd for a book that was subtitled A BLACK FAMILY but had no black women in it and was told from the point of view of men. I now DO REGRET posting those comments..because I've always truly admired your own posts, your socio-political opinions (which are usually identical to my own) and your feisty personality. And when I did apologize for the post, it was too late--our disagreement escalated. We weren't able to get back on good footing.
And since then, at every turn, you've trashed and dissed my very BEING--not only my work or my vision, but me as a human being.
Yes, your eye is your own...but it's jaundiced and prejudiced and I am not who you try, so diligently, to portray me as.
You are not GOD, nor am I....and I am not "deceitful" just because you so ordain.
I only helped you...because you are a brilliantly efficient and clinical writer...totally non-emotional, as is my strength. Your stuff deserves to be published and shared with the world--you're a liar everytime you claim that you only write it as a hobby. You simply have it ready to your liking is what it is, and that I can respect.

I have no idea who Dr. York at Smith is. I am stunned that you would attribute those words to me. I hate to call you an outright liar, but you are lying if you say that I wrote that to you. Looks like my intuiton is holding true.
BTW, my disillusionment with you, Kola, came when you mounted your soap box and tried to read everybody out of the race who didn't conform to your narrow Afro-centric standards, standards that you arrogantly used yourself as a criteria for. And also, I figured that since I didn't encourage to shop my book around, that you'd have sense enough not to go behind my back and do it.

What happened when you referred me to your editor and this Professor-person. What was the result when you contacted all of these other people about my book?? Don't worry, folks. Kola will be back. And to all of you who have wasted your time reading this swill, I swear to you on my mother's grave that I did not write that phrase which Kola attributed to me. A couple of years back, Kola and I exchanged a few e-mails and we were very civil to each other for a minute. She had reviewed my book on the board, and had given me some very constructive criticism in regard to my tendency to tell more than I showed in my narrative. I realized that this was a valid observation and because certain others had made this same complaint, I further realized that my book was not ready, that it needed to be expanded and re-written. But, since I didn't feel like doing this, then I just let it go. Why Kola felt the need to do all she claims she did, I don't know. And I am frustrated that she would imply that I approved of what she did, and in an effort to reinforce her claim, print something that I DID NOT WRITE. I apologize to Thumper and Troy and everybody else for this vicious display of bitchiness. But - what can I say? Cynique and Kola are like fire and gasoline. |

I was trying to infer that there is a reason for Kola to say that you wrote the email when you didn't that we are overlooking. Like the reason you stated, for instance, or trying to get a certain reaction out of you. There could be any number of reasons for her to lie about what went on between you. She has also used this board for publicity in the past. A catfight between posters would drum up curiosity and make folks who otherwise would not have picked up her latest book think again.
You have to get hold of the reigns on that temper.
You are privy to certain info that I would rather did not get displayed here. I enjoy who I am and what I do and I allude to it, but I have reasons and I would rather my work be kept between us.
Still love you just the same. I think I said it before, 'the meaner the woman...' Y'all can fill in the blanks.

Well, whether we want to admit it or not, image plays a very important part on this board. We all try to maintain our personas and liked to be thought of in a certain way. I felt my reputation was being tainted because I was cast in a scenario where I came across like a giddy wanna-be author seeking help from a benevolent mentor. Since this wasn't the case, wasn't something that Cynique would do, I went ballistic. But I realize now that there's really nothing I can do about what people want to believe. So, I will just move one. I am puzzled, however, as to why anyone would infer that I'd have a problem with Lambd going to Kola's "by-invitation-only-tea." I'm as curious as the next person to hear his report. And I'm sure it will a impressive affair. I've never underestimated the self-promoting expertise of Snake Girl. LOL. |

Since this thread is about gossip I will take this opportunity to respond to some "unfounded rumors" about me. Especially since certain things Kola Boof said about me were called to my attention, remarks that I skimmed over in my haste to rebut other things. First of all, Lambda is my cyber-guy, not my boyfriend. I think everybody realizes that we just kid around on this site. And as far as this disputed e-mail is concerned, I'm assuming that Kola will use the high-light feature on her computer and, then holding down the shift key while pressing "C" will be able to reproduce a copy of any old e-mail and cut and paste it into a blank e-mail space by holding the shift key and pressing "v", a procedure which will then enable her to edit the reproduced text to say whatever she wants it to say. heh-heh. Have fun Lambd. And if you're gullible, you will.
Also, although Kola has never seen me in person, she, in all of her inflated conceit, thinks she looks better than I. She might be surprised. It just depends on your taste. Whether you like giraffes or gazelles, me being more comparable to the latter. Finally, I got a kick out of Kola, in all of her menopausal rancor, assigning an age to me. 56. Not! Let your hot flashes subside, Snake Girl, and then guess again. |
