I saw this suggestion elsewhere. What if Bush put Colin Powell on the ticket as VP and dumped Cheney? |

He probably would win easily, though I doubt Powell would do it. Do you think he could achieve the same result by putting Rice on the ticket (who I suspect would acquiesce to that in a NY minute)? I think it would be difficult for many Black and many undecided White female voters to not consider supporting the ticket. |

Answer wasn't clear. You say he would win easiy--if he dumped Cheney? But then you doubt Powell could do it? About Dr. Rice (isn't it cute how she signs her notes to Bush, "Condi"? Don't her missives have that breathy, "Marilyn Monroe to Jack Kennedy" qualtiy? No. Then you got two inept non speaking cold fish on the ticket. She's too stiff. I know you have the hots for her--I think until you get that cured you shouldn't take a job in a mortuary (if you like her you'll be just crazy about some of their "clients"-- But I digress. Despite the much ballyhooed female solidarity women hate other women like her (sorry girls). They'd never support her as VP Oprah could win as President. The first black president will either be Oprah (or a black woman very much like Oprah) or a black man like Uncle Ben on the Rice Box (Ah's just heah takin' ca-yah ub de Wh'at House fo' y'all! Don' mean tuh overstep mah bounds!) |

Yes Bush would win big with Powell, but I doubt that Powell would agree to be his VP. And I have read that Powell will in all likelihood resign if Bush is reelected. You are probably right about the lack of female solidarity for Condi. Heck! 1/2 of the women resent her because of her staid hairstyle and wardrobe. I agree Condi a bit of a stiff. But I can't help thinking there's a bigtime 'freak' up in there. And I can't help thinking there are some thangs 'going down' between Condi and 'W' that would embarrass even Bill and Monica. |

Ain't gonna happen. It's too risky. The chances of Bush being assassinated would increase if either Powell or Rice were on the ticket. But even if one of them were selected as his running mate, I still wouldn't vote for Dubya. What, in the end, might secure a victory for Bush is Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 movie. Already it's starting to generate a back lash. It's so over the top that it's not winning coverts among independents. George Bush is emerging as a sympathetic figure because of all the ridicule this partisan film has heaped upon him. |

Cynique, How do you know which political spin to believe, that of Bush's detractors or his apologists? Just the last night, I saw Moore on Tavis Smiley Show describe how his film is currently the Number #1 film even in the states the GOP claimed in the 2000 election. He also said the film is especially popular where his film is aired near a military base. And he even crowed that his film has inspired otherwise staunch Republicans to reconsider their support of Bush. I agree with you though that neither Powell/Rice will be tabbed to be his running mate. |

Well, how can we believe what Moore says? He's doing a little spin himself. But, considering how gullible the average American voter is, maybe they will be swayed by this movie. I'm still inclined to believe, however, that Moore is preaching to the choir. |

Cynique, I agree. But wouldn't you also agree that Bush's backers are going to claim that the film is eliciting a "back lash" and/or it paints our feeble-minded Commander-in-Chief as some "sympathetic figure"? Simply: Who's propaganda is more ‘credible’: That of an opportunistic film maker or ego-maniacal, warmongering presidency? I mean, really, the movie has been out for barely a week. How can ANY reasonable inferences be drawn concern how it will affect the 2004 Election? |
