Has anyone heard about any upcoming CDs from Jill Scott or D'Angelo? I remember Jill's first CD was out around the same time as Alicia Keyes's first CD. Ain't it about time for some new music? Best regards, Emanuel Carpenter |

I don't know about D'Angelo but Prince is coming to Chicago in June, and all of his fans lookin to recapture that delirious Purple Rain era have sold out 4 shows! I just hope he delivers on his promise to do his hits instead of treating us to a lot of new stuff that he thinks we need to hear with his ol crazy-ass self. |

I personally enjoyed the new jazz stuff that he did when I had a chance to see him last year. I know for a fact that he's already stated that certain songs will NOT be included. Things like Nikki and in that vain. Heard the show was great. But when you are a fan, he can't go wrong. Real music, real musicians who can actually play and half way sing? What a novelty it has become. |

No, Abm, I don't expect to be hearing "Do me, Baby," or "Erotic City" or any of those goodies. But if I want to hear jazz, I'll go to a Wynton Marsailles concert. I guess my stock as a Prince fan has gone down because I am stubborn as he is and I want him to play the "masterpieces" that made him famous not a self-indulgent concert. His latest album is OK, though. |

I caught the Dallas show and I thought it was really good. Candy Dulfer and Mike Phillips played quite a bit. Originally I thought he was a little out of touch with his audience. When he did his old stuff during the really popular tunes the audience would start singing as soon as the music started and he would only do 30 seconds of that song. The old stuff that wasn't so popular he would do the entire song and say " what y'all don't know my music" when people didn't sing. If you go expecting classic Prince you might be disapponted. I thought it was a good show overall. |

Klb, what you report is about what I am expecting when I go see Prince. Down through the years, he has persisted in teasing his fans with snippets of his greatest hits while making them a captive audience for his self-indulgence. I'm really going to this concert just to participate in what is arguably a historic event. |

Blackmalereading, I called you "Abm" by mistake. I must've really been out of it last night because all of my posts were out of kilter. Anyway, thanks for your input. |

I noticed the slip Cynique, I figured you just had ABM on your mind. :-) Okay, I've a HUGE Prince fan! Prince has always went outside the box and the reason his 'true' fans can appreciate him. But he has gone from Jazz to Country. Always have! He's best known for his after concert and just because I feel like it jams and have played ALL kinds of music in those sessions. I think he's trying to move forward with this album. But I hear you, if you've never seen him, I guess it would be important, but he's a TRUE musician and that's appreciated by me! |

I go waay back with Prince, myself, Blackmalereading. Every time he went on tour with a new album I would go to his concerts. But over the past few years, I've become a little disenchanted with him. I realize that his being a "genius" contributes to his quirkiness but some things about him started to wear thin with me. But, no biggy. I'm sure I'll enjoy his Musicology concert. |

I forgot to mention while we were discussing this that Entertainment Magazine has a really good article on Prine in their April issue. The best way to attend a Prince concert is to buy tickets online from his website. I discovered this when I went to see him last year. The folks who were a part of his 'club' were given the choice seats first, they also recieved a goody bag full of Prince stuff. This year he's giving away his CD to everyone who attends the concert. Well, the 9.99 is built into the ticket price according to the article. I think that's a good idea. Let us know how the concert went... Have Fun!! I kind of, sort of want to go now...but now I have my eyes on Madonna, who also keeps saying she's doing a last tour and then shows up again 2 years later. |

FYI...Jill is on the cover of this month's Essence magazine & she will be dropping a new album in August. so fear not...she is BACK! Mr. Michael D'Angelo on the other hand...is taking his time i guess. it took him 5 years to make VooDoo & i guess he's taking all 5 to make this next album. as long as it's good i can deal with his absence. |
