Sometime ago on this list we speculated as to the mental acuity of Fearless Leader. Some opined that we were giving him a raw deal and that time would tell that the perception that he was dimwitted would be false. I wonder at this point what everybody thinks this morning, as he is supposed to appear before the 9/11 Commission with Dick Cheney (and a battery of lawyers and handlers) Do you buy the explanation that this is done in the interests of economy? What purpose is served by having BOTH leaders of the executive branch tied up at the same time in a hearing--isn't this why we have a Veep? Furthermore, what is required of a leader. We all knew that he was a dim bulb--the man practically boasts that he does not read books--how are we supposed to encourage the children to literacy when the most powerful man in the world scoffs at it? The answer to this was that he was surrounded with canny advisors. This has proven to be false, or that he does not listen to them. With regard to what a leader is supposed to do, doesn't there come a time when he is supposed to lead? Give pep talks? Take charge? Even if it is window dressing? If, indeed there is a crisis of leadership in Washington, didn't we ask for it? |
