Anybody got any predictions?

I'm betting it's a whole lot of "I don't recall" and "I don't remember" and "That's a matter of National Security" or "Presidential Privilege" and maybe taking the 5th if it gets too hairy.

I read that she is rehearsing her answers to the hard questions the staff anticipates she will be asked by the committee.

LOL I know yall think I'm tripping but the hearings are on now and she has the biggest black cirlcles under her eyes. That must have been one hellava pop quiz! She must of been up all night poor boo. In her intro speech she seems to be handling it like a trooper.

I just finished listening to her. She sounded like a chipmunk on benzedrine and several times questioners had to shut her up because she gave long speeches that did not answer the question--and old dodge--Kerry didn't let her get away with it though.

Did they bust her? I didn't expect any smoking gun and for her to collapse, wailing, "George did it!" You know how these things go--they will go over her testimony line by line--I did hear a couple of "I don't recalls". No 5ths.

She did sound like she'd had lots of practice. She cracked a smile at the end like she didn't think she was going to make it. I'd love to be able to ask her on a personal level what she is thinks/feels about the whole thing. It look like in the end it will be she and C. Powell that are hit the hardest.

I don't think Condoleeza's testimony will change anybody's minds. This is a very partisan issue and the Republicans will think she did a good job while the Dems will say she stonewalled. I did like one Democratic senator's observation about this being a war where the army of a Christian nation is occupying a Muslim country, mistakenly believing that American troops will be looked upon as liberators instead of invaders. With all of the Iraqi civilians being killed, the tide is turning, and hate for the U.S. is steady growing. The worst is yet to come.

Re Cynique's note:

"I did like one Democratic senator's observation about this being a war where the army of a Christian nation is occupying a Muslim country, mistakenly believing that American troops will be looked upon as liberators instead of invaders.

.....makes a lotta sense and something that nobody has talked about. And it does seem that it's getting worse, the hatred for the American troops. I recently got an e-mail from my nephew (18 year-veteran) who has been in Iraq literally since the beginning and he tells me that the backlash is incredible and increasing on a daily basis. Our troops are catching hell from the folks they are supposed to be protecting???????

Hi Bookgirl,
It's so sad that we are being told to support our troops in Iraq, but it's hard to support something that is costing them their lives! The Army brass keep hushing up how low morale is, and would have us to believe that everyone is all gung ho about this war and totally believes America should be there. It's just turning into another Vietnam.

The 9/11 Committee was appointed ENTIRELY by the White House, with a GOP-dominated Congressional approval. The Committee's members are either political conservatives or moderates. The Committee has ZERO law-making and enforcement capabilities. And the Executive Director of the Committee worked for and wrote 2 books with Condi Rice.

Need I say anymore...?

Abm:

In any organization other than in our fair Republic, the top people take it in the neck for failure even if it is proved that they had nothing to do with it.

You are right. She should have been fired on GP--but then again, maybe she knew too much to get fired--

hmmmm....i think the Bush admin. should be fired...u can't fire Sleezacondoleezza w/o firing Powell, Rumsfield, and Bush...they're a team and she's not even the captain...

ABM: speaking of race, however....do u guys think they'll blame on the negroes? Also, consider the ol' position black folk used to say, "thats a what man's war..." is that still relevant? And, what does really mean for blacks as victims of terrorism when, for example, we have black folk represent this country's politically[rice and powell], and black troops represent the physical forces internationally, even in africa and places of peoples of african descent...

Thanks Chris.

Glad SOMEBODY can vibe with what I'm saying. Honestly, everytime I see Rice I have to fight-off nausea. I know Bush/Cheney are the Devil. And Powell is pulling his kissa$$ 'good soldier' routine. But I guess I inherently expect more out of a BLACK WOMAN that 'Condi' is capable of.

But you make a good point about her possibly being retained because she "knew too much". Maybe if they had fired her, they would have had to kill her.

Yukio,

Of course the entire Bush Administration is culpable. But I single out Condi because of her job title: National Security Advisor. The very definition of her job means that she more than ANYONE ELSE is responsible for 9/11 and much of the paranoia crap that ensued.

Your description of the fall-guy/gal roles of Blacks in the government and the military sure seem like an updated version of American History 101 to me.

If Condi advised Bush to invade Afganistan to squash Alqeda thereby averting 911. Do you think she would be in the hot seat for the collateral damage and inevitable loss of life that would have resulted from a military action of this type? Or would she have been applauded for saving thousands of American lives on American soil?

Toni Morrison said Condi was a smart and gifted woman -- who needs to find another job. I too wonder why she is even bother to put up with this aggravation. She is reviled by virtually the entire Black community (those who are aware of Condi).

It seems to me it would be much easier for her to give up and go back to Stanford an enjoy a comfortable life.

Whose was/is more dangerous to Black people; Condi Rice or Robert Johnson?

Condoleeza Rice has a long history with the Bush family, going back to Dubya's ol man. For some unfathomable reason she is totally committed to these people. And I think Condi really believes in what she's doing, and enjoys her position of perceived power. When you are skilled in the the art of creating "smoke and mirrors", taking the heat is no big thing. She is the poster girl for black Republicans. Black folks may not appreciate her, but conservatives of all color LOVE her!I think she gets a slight edge over Robert Johnson when it comes to declaring who is more dangerous to the black community. Johnson capitalizes off a negative situation that already exists, while Rice creates bad situations and then tries to convince people that what she has done is right.

Troy,
Morrison's comments were clever. But they seem to presuppose that Condi Rice would trade teams even if she had the opportunity to. I disagree.

Face it: Condi surrendered to 'The Darkside of the Force' a LONG time ago!

Cynique is on-point with her comments about the 'illustrious' Condelessa Rice. Her roots run deep/wide in the Bush-branch of the illuminati. Foks, Condi has a @#$%ing Chevron oil tanker named after her (for Christ Sake!). THAT, as much as ANYTHING, should inform you of WHOSE side she is on.

And if Bob Johnson is a demon, Condi Rice is the Devil.

Troy:

Ah, but she would not have advised him to do so and did not advise him to do so--for what reasons we can only fathom. I will say in her favor that she was an expert on Russia and the Soviet Union and not the Middle East, but then again, why, if you were considering making these moves, would you appoint someone as National Security Advisor who didn't know anything? (Chris Hayden answer: because, being ignorant, she would have to rubber stamp the stuff Wolfowitz and others were feeding her)

What aggravation is she putting up with? She works for US, and she isn't a queen but a public servant. This goes along with the job. Should we kiss her butt because she got into a high position in an Administration that is running the country into the ground? She doesn't care what we think of her, she probably doesn't even know--all she cares about is the praise and stroking she is getting from her collegues, peers and employers.

She is in too deep to go anywhere--and she is a billion times more dangerous than Robert Johnson--she is dangerous to us, to white folks, to the world.

Chris, your reasoning for the possible rationale for appointing Rice to the NSA is compelling.

Ok, I should admit something: I use to kinda have a thing for Condi a lil’ while back. It wasn’t her politics, her ‘brains’ or her looks. No, it was something about a Black woman speaking fluent Russian or even with a Russian accent that REALLY turned me on (I think it’s some kind of ‘Boris & Natasha’ fetish or something).

I used to have these thoughts about us being stranded in a cabin in Siberia, with only our own 2 bodies writhing together to keep warm, while she screamed out in ecstasy that I am her "Mighty Russian Black bear", then...

Oops! Did I say that aloud?

Abm:

That sounds too vivid to be a fantasy. It has to have really happened--but for National Security reasons you have kept it quiet all these years. My admiration for your self sacrifice grows day by day!
