Great. Can't wait to see what Home Slice is gonna do for an encore, now that he compromised his journalistic integrity. Or is that an oxymoron--journalistic integrity. |

Hello Harrison, I can't wait to read his side of the story. I'm going to try and keep an open mind about the book, but I have to admit that I have some mixed feelings concerning the whole episode. So, I'll wait and see. |

Wait and see is good. That's the right attitude. Contempt prior to investigation is the wrong approach. |

Whatever . . . I'm already bothered by the title. Then again, it might be fitting, considering all the other Negroes living in that house are out of a home and have to now work their assess off even harder to build a new one. *grhhh* |

What, was there a mass firing of all the black folks at the NYT? Or was Blair the only one there? |

I can't remember his name, but a black man who held a very high editorial position at the NY Times ended up resigning because of all the controversy over Blair. |

Harrison, it is not only about other black folks there getting fired but also about the additional scrutiny (if it wasn't enough before) that will be directed towards journalists, particularly Black journalists. As much as I hate to admit it, we are still judge, by mainstream American (IOW, White), against the actions of a few. Now, Black journalist will have to work that much harder to maintian a position or to get there foot in the door. |

hmmm....i never thought that black folk didn't have to "work that much harder"....black folk have always had to be "the best" although some, like the general population, were able to get positions when their credentials were not as stellar as they could be... |

Jayson Blair wasn't the first or the last black journalist to bring our integrity as writers into question. He was only the most notorious in modern times. I think his book ought to be interesting. I would love to hear what he has to say for himself. However, I went into 'Karibou' yesterday and they didn't know what I was talking about. |

As Always Lurking points out, we still are judged but what a few of us do, which is racist....even if 50 black journalist are incompetent that shouldn't reflect the group....besides, there are too many incompetent white folk doing all types of things, ie...running this country...now, if white folk or should i say white men can't keep this country a float then shouldn't we question the integrity of white male politicians...lmao! |

The Blair problem is the down side of affirmative action. It creates situations that can put blacks at a disadvantage because once the playing field is leveled, at some point, blacks are still going to have to have the skills to play the game. That's why it's so important to upgrade the education black kids are getting. I doesn't matter that white people are incompetent. White people don't have to worry about measuring up because - well, they're WHITE PEOPLE and they control all the sectors of American society. Ain't no niggas in the good ol boy network. |

Hello All, I seem to remember at that time that many of the Republican/conservatives were very much using Jayson Blair and the NY Times scandal as the perfect example to why Affirmative Action does not work. Conveniently forgetting that there were a couple of white journalists that were fired for the same thing, but it's Blair that have become the poster child. |
