I believe this is a first novel for Ms. Garnett. I enjoyed it. It’s the story of 3 sisters in their 50’s who decide to get rid of their invalid husbands and get on with their lives and while they’re at it they get rid of their no-good-dog pastor too. More of a upper middle class “you-go-woman” than a hoodiefied “you-go-girl” book.

The thing that struck me is that this is a story that could have been written by any woman – regardless of color. If it weren’t for the descriptions of the women you wouldn’t know they were black. The cover of the book has a picture of a Black woman. Actually, I like the cover but would they get more sales with a more generic cover or am I just being color sensitive?
