In order to post to any of the AALBC.com discussion boards, you are required to register. Registation is very easy; you provide a valid email address, username (which is the name which will be associated to your posts) and your full name (If you wish to remain anonymous simply provide a false name). Immediately after registering, you will be emailed an activation key. Which will allow you to create a password – it is that simple. You may register by clicking register at the top of this page or by clicking the following link: http://www.thumperscorner.com/cgi/discus/board-profile.cgi?action=register Your email address will only be used validate your username. It will not be used for any other purpose.

We added the registration process simply because we found too many instances of people posting under multiple usernames (or someone has a split personality). While I appreciate the extra step may reduce the number of posters we get to the board; Thumper and I felt it was worth the trade off to help restore the intergrity of the board.

Well Troy I've been posting here almost a year now, and I've seen a lot happen, and I cannot honestly say that Thumper is someone I look to for "integrity", or "maturity", but...he wouldn't be the first human to indulge his pet peeves and jealousies. I will stay for those people that I DO respect--and I don't make these comments to start an argument or anger people. I make them simply so that others may know where "I" stand. This is a wonderful board and at 51, I find it hard to believe the "personality" problems and the pettiness. **After holding that in so long, I just had to get it off my chest.

Hi Missred I appreciate your candor. I'm also glad despite the "personalities" you still find this to be a wonderful board -- thanks for registering. Here is the primarily reason I decided to implement the regisitration process: The following posts can from the same computer (presumably the same person): Mad Mama: 1-16-2004 @ 11:59 am 4.62.255.186 Hooked: 1-17-2004 @ 1:37 pm 4.62.255.186 Girl Writer: 1-17-2004 @ 6:02 pm 4.62.255.186 Katrina M: 1-14-2004 @ 5:09 pm 4.62.255.186 Let’s Get Serious: 1-10-2004 @ 11:33 am 4.62.255.186; This is not an isolated incident. I was goinging to ban the address, but discovered I could not ban the address unless I forced users to register. When people post under the different names (in the same thread no less) as the example above -- I draw a line. This is as serious as posting under someone else's name, or posting a lie or other infromation you know to be false. I don't agree with everything Thumper says and I'm sure the feeling is mutual. However as corny as it may sound I defend his right to say what he honestly believes -- and from Thumper you can could on honesty. If I caught Thumper posting under a different name and talking to himself, I'd have to register a new domain name. Missred, I would encourage you to express yourself more freely in the future. I'm a big fan of knowing where peole stand and raising issues so that they can be addressed and we can move forward. You input, everyone's input, is required. As a I said a thousand times this board is nothing without posters. Thanks for posting and registering |

Hello All, It's still me, Thumper. I'm still here and I'm still fascinating. *smile* Any of you who use to email me on my personal email address will recognize the Thumper6488 handle. I wanted to go through the registration process to see how it was. As you all have probably already notice, we've made some few changes to the site. I'm sorry if this change affects the way you feel about the board, but it was necessary evil. And although many of you feel that the spontenity of the site is gone, I feel that a sense of honesty will now be present as well. I do hate that we sprung on you all. We should have probably given you a warning. As Troy said, the discussion board couldn't have happened without you. It grew and became more than we ever could have dreamed, and you all made it possible. We haven't forgotten. And we are grateful. Now we can get back to the business of books and "venting". *big smile* |

Hey Cynique, no time to play the big brother role. Just trying to make it harder for people to be have conversations with themselves on the board. Hey it is still possible to do it, but it will just take a little more effort. Also if it is discovered again I can very easily ban the ip address or the email address. Time will tell what the impact of the registration process will be.... Welcome back Tee -- I hate moving myself.

I personally think it's an excellent idea. Not to long ago someone did a Thumper's Corner The Movie Post and while some thought it was funny I thought it was sad. I've visited this board almost since it first hit the web and I can remember when it was an outlet for exchange about books no matter what your level of understanding. As of late it seems to have mutated into something that is hard to identify with all the self promotion, look at me I'm so smart and superior post, and just plain out ghetto drama and the whole Boof things is in a league of its own. So hats off to Thumper and Troy they made the hard call to make a change for the better. |

Yeah, but the old board was much more exciting and stimulating! Plus, most of the volatile exchanges occurred under the specially-designated categories created by Troy. Those who wanted to focus solely on books could still do so. Things will be tamer now but the diverse and impulsive input will be missing. You know what old newspaper editors used to say: dog bites man; that's ordinary. Man bites dog; that's news! So far, none of my sparring partners have come aboard yet, and I miss them. Oh well. |

Cynique, again time will tell. I'm very pleased you hung tough. The same goes to everyone else who registered) (Akaivyleaf, you should be able to delete you own posts now you might want to try it out on your test post) Honestly I don't understand why this is percieved as such a dramatic change. For example one of the old regulars told me (in an email) that this change was the worst thing I could have done. This person claimed that it would get rid of the spontaneity. From my perspective you simply register, once registered posting is actually easier that before because you can setup your account to remember your login id and password. The person also mentioned anonymity. Again you can be a anonymous as before. I'm not sure how I can explain it any plainer. Sure I can see the email addresses, but I'm not going to share them. Cynique, yeah I have to admit I'm surprised some of the more prolific posters have not registered yet (but it has only been a few days). Honestly, I find it quite puzzling. Think about it, ABM has not registered. Why? Becuase he did not want to divulge his email address to me? I'm only singling ABM out here because this is someone who obviously derived some pleasure from the discussion board. I find it impossible to fathom that such a minor change would discourage him from posting. I also enjoyed ABM's posts a great deal - he is (was) one of my favorites. So I'm not immune to the impact this change may have had. (I hope nothing else is preventing him from posting) I have to give the Sisters credit. I just did a quick search on the discussion board and virtually all of the posts (save Thumper and mine) since the change were made, judging by the login name, were made by women. Why is that? Klb thanks for the words of encouragement Peace |

Troy: It is more difficult to be anonymous...i'm assuming that you can not use multiple alias under the same email address....that is discouraging for some, i think, cuz they would need a several emails addresses to sing under different alias, No? |

I'm sitting here saying to myself; "Yukio you are are anonymous. In fact, someone registered as AnonymousX, can’t get more anonymous than that" But now I think I see you point. You want the flexibility of being able to post your view under different aliases. Yes, you are correct this would require multiple email addresses. Yukio, what disadvantage is there in not being able to post under a different alias. Honestly I had not considered that people would want to do this for any other reason than to deceive. It is sort of like calling someone up and disguising your voice. Sure you may think you are having a meaningful conversation, but it is founded in dishonestly. I'd prefer if you sang under your own voice – it, like your signature, is truly unique. Besides, half the time regulars can pick it up away. But don't you see; this is exactly want I'm trying to discourage. There have been enough incidences where people conversed with themselves, sometimes to self-promote in a disingenuous manner. Admittedly, this does not happen often; but it has happens often enough where I think it is worth the trade off. TC, of course; Who Moved My Cheese? An Amazing Way to Deal with Change in Your Work and in Your Life is a classic, quick read on the subject. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0399144463/aalbccom-20

I think it's significamt that all the women regulars are returning to the board, apparently possessing the flexibility necessasry to adapt and make the best of things. All the men are balking and ruminating with suspicion, unable to bend for fear of breaking. Did I say "men"? I meant "boys". LOL! |

It really does make sense. The user name is already pretty anonymous. I think sometimes people want to present a point of view to see how others respond. There is the notion that some may respond unfavorably, (or favorably), because of who you are and what your views have been in the past. Take ABM for instance, he knows he has ruffled the feathers of SSS in the past and may genuinely want to know how she feels about a certain subject. He might want to post under a different username in order to get an unbiased opinion from her...(not saying that either would do either. I was merely using them as examples) In my opinion, any other reason to post under more than one username is ridiculous. The other people on the boards only know what you tell them about yourself. |

But could you ever leave me? Like Bruce left Demi? Why you call yourself a semi? You got the face but not the body? Or are you a very modest hottie? You bout to let your lack of conceit be your ultimate defeat? If you miss out on dis bout you may suffer a knockout and never get back in the ring for the kind of fling that can make your heart sing. I don't want to sound borin', but I'm tor-n, you got my mind soarin, from the dew-drop ceiling to my all wood floorin'. Should my eyes behold what could satify my soul, be bold and stop stallin'. You should be callin' while I'm fallin'. You procrastinatin', it's getting late and, I want to see you. If your rack is stacked up and that thing is backed up then let me free you. To keep from shittin' U. You know I'm kiddin' U. To get in touch with me, I'm up on hotmail, see. So if you email me, then I will email you. C-Neek, my sweet, the clues are in the rhyme. You can find my name on the left side of the vertical line. Read it again and take your time. About two-thirds of the way down, you'll find that I'm hotmail bound. That's where you'll find Lambd at. Watch yourself. Did you catch that? |
