Ron O'Neal, whose role as cocaine dealer Youngblood Priest in the flick "Superfly" died of cancer tues, the 20th. I can hear Curtis Mayfield now, singing Freddy's Dead. Now that was street....wasn't it? Chris, I know you can relate to this, I just had to have a long black leather coat and would die for some long black wavy hair. i believe we've talked about Hip Hop and it's fashions. Can anyone say plaid elephant pants and stacked heeled shoes. We look at the youth today and shake our heads in disapproval. And truth be told, shagging pants ain't new, it was called the Harley Boys style, yep, back in the late 50's early 60's. Need we talk about "conking" our hair? Like Thump said: Ain't nothing changed. In the 50's & 60's old people were sitting on their front porches shaking their heads saying "look at them kids, they done gone crazy". Jump ahead 50yrs and them people a still sitting and saying " look at them............crazy"

Yep<

Ol' Superfly O'Neal. The brothers (some of them, anyway) went back to straightening their hair after that movie (Ron's hair was like that naturally) and got into the whole Pusherman thang and I knew then the Revolution was over/lost.

Poor Ron got typecast as a result and spent years trying to shed the image--

Each generation has to have its own soundtrack. Each one has its own Jessie James

"it's own Jessie James"

You still got it Chris, You know you're my father figure. Really, everyone needs or can use a father, regardless of their own age. Well, glad to see you stop by... dad.

btw, Today, while I was viewing my grandson I thought of you and your words of encouragement that you shared during my times of trouble, I had thought all good-by's were gone. Well here I am again, running my mouth with the big boys.....and girls, thanks.

And while I'm at it, thank you too Kathleen, Christmas was tough yet you were a gift.

I didn't plan to get all maudlin on y'all but that's the way we old folks are. Our emotions, good and bad, just seems to at times come from nowhere. And I've learned that it's not a bad thing to speak on them.

Oh, Chris, glad to see you made your first NA meeting, keep your head up, it'll get better :-)

Carey:

You are sui generis. You have sprung fully grown from the brow of Zeus. You need no father figure.

I will accept the lofty post, however, as long as nobody comes around dunning me for back support. Must have piled up a tidy sum by now.
