Hi Marilyn. I'm Kevin author of Entangled I am a man. Yes partly the reason I put my book on various sites was to build curiosity because nobody has heard of me yet. I think you should pick up the book and judge for yourself. Happy New Year to you, Peace Kevin |

YES K Elliott you are a man. A man that know how to put it down. Speaking of puttin it down. I could not put that book down. I went to Barnes and Nobles, They did not have your title in stock but the lady said she could order it and it would arrive in two days, which she did. I got the book today at 11am and its 3 in the morning now and I just finished the book. Anybody who hasn't read this book. It is a MUST THAT YOU READ THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!. If you like COLDEST WINTER EVER. you will like Entangled. They are running neck and neck. The ending will make you say whoa I cannot believe what just happened. This guy gives it to you raw but the writing is actually good which is more than I can say about some of the other street writers. |

Hey Since this woman is ranting and raving about this book, hell I think I might go pick it up. I wonder did the author pay her for that review or is the book really good? I'm curious now. I hope I don't waste my time and money with this street fluff. Has anybody else heard anything about this book before I take my chances and spend my last fifteen dollars? |

But then again, I too suspect a little .....let's just say, dual ownership at play. But hey, that's just my suspicion. The timing of the posts and the wordplay rings of....of...you know . Hey, I gotta tell it like I see it. Carey |

Man, I just visited another thread that Zane has started and apparently am in the minority on "Coldest". Oh well, that's what it's all about, some do and some don't. BTW, I noticed the same "Raver" ***Like in raving, no it's not a real word **** was over on that street too. This person really likes this book **wink**. |

Carey the I went to the thread Zane started Yeah the "raver" is being ridiculous now. Either she's getting paid or she's his sister or wife. I kind of liked Coldest Winter Ever but that's just me because it was put together well for a story in that Genre. I think I'm going to have to research this K. Elliott guy more. Haven't heard anybody mention him except the "Raver" |

Carey: I'm in the minority with you because I didn't care for Coldest Winter Ever either. I couldn't get past the first hundred pages so I gave it to my niece (who is a freshman in college) and she loved it. Might be a generational thing. LOL |

I purchased this book last year but haven't read it yet, so I don't have a personal opinion on it, but two of my book club members read it. One loved it, rated it a 5; the other rated it a 3 (out of 5). And, I think I'm one of the few people who has never read The Coldest Winter Ever, but I hope to. Of the "street fiction" books I've read, I didn't overly care for the majority of them. -Tee |

Hey Tee Would The Dying Ground by Nichelle Tramble be considered "street fiction", I loved that book? I think there is a followup, have you heard anything about it? |

Hey Carey, I really don't know since I didn't read it, but from what I understand, it would fall more in the mystery category. The follow-up is called The Last King and it's due out early this year. You may find more information at Amazon.com or on her website at www.nichelletramble.com. -Tee |

Hello to all: Firt of all let me clear something up. I'm in no competition with Sistah Souljah, Shannon Holmes Teri Woods or no other artist in my Genre. I'm glad for my Brothers and Sisters. This is not rap where I'm JZ and Sitah is NAS. I support everybody's art and commend anybody who has completed a Novel. It's hard work, let me tell you. Also I hate the comparisons. I was want to be me because I think its all political anyway, I mean Books sales and the Essence list really boils down to who you know in the Literary community. That being said it doesn't matter how good a book may or may not be,if the right people don't get behind it it will never recieve the attention it deserves. So I won't say that I don't write for the readers because I do.But I will say that I don't write to be better than Sistah Souljah. As longs as the end of the day I can write the best book that I could and feel good about my work I'm cool. I would be a fool to even think that everybody is going to love my work. But that's the beauty of Living in America. We have choices if we don't like something we can move on to something else. Nobody is forcing anybody to buy Entangled. But Rest assure somebody will and people have 7000 copies sold since Oct 9. Numbers can't compare to Sistah's numbers but I'm cool because I'm doing it on my own. |

Carey (other "The Coldest Winter Ever" polemics): I too had some problems with Sistah Souljah's "The Coldest Winter Ever" too. For my tastes, the story lacked emotional depth and character development, the lead character had no redeemable qualities and there were a few plausibility gaffes. But, although I found flaws in the story, I still recommend reading "The Coldest Winter Ever" because Souljah's writing was clear, brisk and authentic - all of which helps to retain my "bumblebee attention span" - and the "moral of the story" was one that many of young (and old) people should seriously consider. And would you judge a TV comedy by the same criteria that you would a cinematic drama? Because, perhaps unlike you, I DO think one should at times calibrate his/her general criteria for assessing a book to the genre to which it refers and the audience for which it is intended. But of course if you dislike and don't appreciate today's 'yutes', Hip Hop and much of the general tone of today's culture, books like "The Coldest Winter Ever" may prove difficult to stomach. BTW: We sure are selling a lot of Sistah Souljah's books 'round deeze parts. I think I may forward to her a bill for my services. |

I have read both books and let me say there is no comparison. Not to say that both books aren't good because both are great books but two totally diffrent stories two diffrent syles of writing. All I can say is K.Elliott keep doing what you do and Sistah Souljah do what you do. Don't worry about the haters and people are going to compare your books unfortunatly. Actually Mr. Elliott no disrespect (No pun intended) "Souljah's other book for the slow minded folks" Its really naive of you to think you aren't going to get comparisons. That's part of being a artist. Just keep putting out quality work. Regardless of how many street novels are out there the cream will rise to the top and one thing I have learned about black fiction is that the shelf life is long lasting so you may not have the numbers yet but keep pushing it they'll come in time but nothing comes easy |

Just my two cents... I really liked Coldest Winter Ever...it was refreshing, and new, when just about everything being written at that time was like Terry McMillan clones and so many of them, none the better. Perhaps I will reread it one day, but not today. Yes, Carey, I would consider The Dying Ground, Hip-hop...in fact I remember seeing that statement on the cover, " a hip-hop novel"..and it was excellent! I look forward to her new book. Others, I would consider hip-hop are: Take 6, Dakota Grand, Dark, Shannon Holmes books, (none of which I have ever been able to get through, but I'm not saying I won't try again). There are some well-known, and very profitable authors, (like Stephen Kings, Black House) that I haven't been able to get through, soooooo..Anyway, I like the street novels, and I would love to read more, but quality first. |
