Hi all, I'm new here. My name is Helen and I live in Buffalo, New York on weekends. But I work for some book people on Broadway during the week. I have been browsing and reading the site/boards for about two weeks before I decided to post. I would like to raise the topic of "book covers", and especially the ones they make for AA authors. I notice many of you are authors. In particular, has anyone noticed how ugly and passe the book covers from St. Martin's Press are? I have to mention it. My lord. What is with that company? They show too many cartoons or they have dull colors. Just one drab book cover after the other. Go look at their page on this web site. You'll see what I'm talk'n about. The sorriest book covers--5 cent a pop. Is there a way they could read this thread and realize what the public thinks? I sure am hoping so. Helen |

Oh wow, Helen, I'm looking through my St. Martin's books and I can't find one that meets your descriptions (to me). In my opinion, SMP produce some of the nicest covers on the market. I can't think of one I don't like. BTW, welcome. :-) -Tee |

Helen I have to admit I was surprised by your post as well. Do you not like these covers http://writers.aalbc.com/stmartinspress.htm I really like this cover http://aalbc.com/cgi/aalbcamazonproductsfeed.cgi?item_id=0312240473&search_type= image&locale=us Perhaps you meant a different publisher?

Helen: You have put me in the position of having to admit that Troy is right. Unqualifiedly, unequivocably right --the pain! Anyway I was so smitten by the Cover of Use Me or Lose Me (I'm gonna marry that woman!) that I have copied it and look at it for inspiration when I am writing this story about a future Hip Hop/rapper ShoBiz character named L'il Kween B |

Personally I think the hippest cover is on Milligan Books DAMAGED GOODS. The graphics are bold and tell a story, sort of like the book covers before television or movies. Anyone agree? Disagree? |
