Hello Janice, I recommend Billy by Albert French. None of you will be any good by the end of the book, but you will be moved by a powerful story, excellently told. Let me know what you decide. *smile* |

Hi Thumper, I recently started a local bookclub in my area. We allow each member to select a Book of the Month. And guess what, I chose Billy for February. I warned the ladies that it is not a feel good, all laughs book, but that it will be a story well told and well written. Yvette |

Hello Yvette, I just recommended Billy to Linda. I'm waiting to see what she thinks of it. I ashamed to admit that by the end of the book, I had cried like a baby. |

Hello All I just finished reading Billy, by Albert French and I have to say, Thumper, you were so right. This story was a tear-jerker. The reality of the hostility, hatred, and horrendous acts aimed at Blacks in the South was profoundly displayed in the 214 pages. Of course, I wanted more once I closed the cover. I wanted justice for all the wrong done to Billy and his mother, but it was not to be. So I just cried. |

Hello I also read Billy and yes it tugs a your heart. I didn't cry but I had a tremendous lump in my throat . I think it was because I was somewhat prepared for the ending because of earlier posts talking about the book but I wasn't prepared for Billy's crys for help to his mother....it hurt. Ann didn't read the book. She couldn't do it. It is an excellent read, it just makes you so mad. Carey |

Hello Sandra, Have you read The Hotel Alleluia yet? I LOVED THAT BOOK!! What did you think of it? The reading audince haven't caught on to Lucinda Roy yet, but when they do, she's going to blow up. Check out her first novel Lady Moses as well. I like it a little better than The Hotel Alleluia. |

Gee I'm late, but I must concur with the assessment of Billy. Thumper recommended it a couple of months ago, well back in January and I went out and picked up a copy at the library (Tee) and I'm not ashamed to admit that the book was a bit waterlogged when I returned it. It was a touching moving story, that angered me, that saddened me, that engaged me. Excellent story! |

Oooh Sharon, just tell me that you didn't return it to MY branch? ROFL. You oughta be ashamed. And, I'm glad this post popped back up because I wasn't able to find Billy in Bama (no surprise here), but I'm adding it to my hold list now at the library. Gotta love being in civilization! And Cyberscribe, check out mosaicbooks.com for a listing of black book clubs across the U.S. -Tee

Nope it wasn't your branch... You're safe. I think the library only had 2 copies system wide though. |
