Hey everyone, have you had a chance to check out the stage play "Friends and Lovers" based on EJD's novel. Well, I did, and it was pretty good, good actors, writing, singing...okay i must admit i started off as a critic, hoping it wasn't gonna be another "Mama said, Mama this, need a man" kind of play...and after the first half, well i had given it only 1 thumbs up for being better than all of the "mama said" plays. But he brought it home in the second half, and yes the play has a story, great actors, excellent sound system (sometimes too loud, but maybe that was bc i was sitting next to the speaker, so we won't hold that against them, okay) as I was saying, the jokes were off the chain, verrrrrry funny. You go! EJD, you just doing your thang and I ain't mad at ya. Everyone check it out and let me know what you think. |

Sisg: Which city did you see this play? Does this events officially catapult EJD ahead of E. Lynn in the popularity column?

Hmmm, I saw it Thursday night here in ATL and I was a bit disappointed. I haven't read the book, so I hope to go back and read it. There was a major flaw that I just couldn't deal with and it messed up the whole play for me. I do however agree that it was very funny and a few spots were really touching, but I thought a few of the actors over-acted, I thought one of the women was screaming vs singing, and back to that one flaw, whew, someone should've caught that. The ending was also "too" nice or something. Call me mean, but I wanted the pilot to throw the stewardess over the balcony vs the ending we saw. -Tee |

I saw it in Atlanta as well and Tee I have to agree with you about the screaming. I saw it a second time on yesterday. Okay i wasn't that overwhelmed by it, but two folks bought me tickets for a birthday present and seeing it a second time, knowing the story already I was a bit more critical. Yes, there was a lot of screaming going on, and this time I wasn't sitting behind any speakers. The too nice ending, that was as expected...i think, off the balcony, my Tee (LOL) that is too funny, i do however feel there was no redemption as far as that relationship goes....i felt sorry for the guy. What was that flaw, tell me Tee, i would love to discuss further. I read the book some time ago, so I don't even remember if the story was the same, for some reason I think a lot was changed. Troy, I don't know if i would say the play has catapulted EJD ahead of E Lynn, but there were a lot of his fans there, but I heard someone say they liked Michael Baisdens play better. But, I believe Michaels books are often like the "chicken...i mean chittlin circuit plays", use drama as the story line. E Lynn has gone quiet on us, and hasn't wrote anything original, i mean that differs from his previous story lines in some time. EJD has bravely written other pieces, outside of his standard relationship novels and I must say he has done a fine job. So for me, he is the better writer and he constantly seeks to improve and engage his audience. The play was probably just an easy way to capitalize on his name and books and make money while at it. Now Tee, back to the flaw...what was it? |

Everyone else, just tune this out because it's going to sound crazy. You probably won't understand what I'm saying because I'm trying not to tell the plot and spoil the play for anyone who still plans to see it. ---- Okay Sisg...go to the scene where Debra has asked her best friend to spend the night at her boy's house with her (and the friend's ex-boyfriend). Now, she brought along her fiance'. Right? And she's at her ex-boyfriend's house right? Okay...they're in the guestroom, the ex is on the couch, and Debra is in the ex's bedroom sleeping in his bed. When the ex-girlfriend and ex-boyfriend get together, profess their love, hug, kiss, and leave out the living room, WHERE DID THEY GO? The scene shows them going to the master bedroom, but ummm...Debra is in there, so again...WHERE DID THEY GO? This annoyed the hell outta me, because it is implied that the house only has 2 bedrooms (otherwise, the ex wouldn't have been on the couch would he?) So again, this was just a major flaw to me. The editor should've caught that...someone should have. My girlfriends didn't even think about it until I brought it up. And another thing... And just the whole fact that she's getting down like that with her EX while her FIANCE is in the same house? Oh hell naww...are folks really that bold? Okay, I'm done. <grin> Oh and Troy, I saw E. Lynn's play here as well and that one was much better to me. I think E Lynn has his fans and Dickey has his. I'm sure that they have some mutual fans, but if I had to pick, I'd go with E. Lynn, no doubt about it. -Tee |

Hahhah Tee, You got them! I'm like your friends I didn't think of where they were going, maybe to the kitchen? BC it was several hours later that her fiance returned, right??? See, EJD should have you on the case, it's funny how he missed that being a writer, u know. But some things do slip past us all, it takes an objective eye to catch it. Yeah, that was pretty downright nasty and wrong what Debra did, and I would say no, people don't, won't do this in real life, unless they expect a beatdown or worse. I didn't see E Lynn's play so I have really nothing to compare it to, but the chittlin circuit plays I've seen of late, and as i said compared to them, it was better. Thanks for responding Tee. Have a good day and happy belated B'day! I should have know you were a Libra, like me! |

Nawww, they weren't going to the kitchen. Wasn't that the room they walked through to get to the bedroom? And another thing. The "next morning" the chick comes out all refreshed and in different clothes. Where'd she get those clothes from seeing her suitcase was in the guest bedroom?? Whew Lawd, let me stop! And thanks for the belated birthday. I have 4 whole days of the house TO MY SELF and then Ms. Joy is staying with her grandmother for at least 4-5 more days. What is a sista to do? I've gotten more work done, slacked around, done NO COOKING, all in 2 days that I haven't been able to really do in what, 2 years? And the house is still clean... I'm really having some TEE-TIME! Shoot, I may even go to the movies to see Woman Thou Art Loosed...wanna go Sisg? When was your birthday? -Tee |

Girl I hear ya, me too! I've been off work since last Wed. My birthday was last Thursday, so I have had plenty of time to rest up and celebrate, let's see, Wed, Thurs, Friday and yesterday...it was great. Today, i'm trying to get some writing done, something I haven't done since being off, ...shame on me, okay. I do want to see Woman thou Art Loose. I have heard so many good things about it. You are so right, not the kitchen, and yes she did have a change of clothes. I hope EJD is listening, or reading this, boy he needs to make some changes and fast! I would love to go, but today i'm dedicating to writing...so i guess i need to get off this board, u know what i mean. (lol) |

My neighbor got some shine he bought up from South Carolina he calls "Nigga in the woods" or NIW. We can get a funnel and pour that in the Hennesy bottle with some flat pepsi and you'll never know the difference. Game? most Libras are game for damn near anything once. |

Hey, I'm down Lambd! Yep, I agree with being game for anything once, with the exception of food and drugs. I'm picky when it comes to food and I ain't trying to do no drugs. Anything else, bring it on...I think. BTW, since being pregnant, I can't maintain alcohol anymore, so just give me more pepsi than the shine. (Of all names though, why'd your neighbor pick that one?) Happy Belated again to all the Libras!! -Tee |
