Just finished Ride or Die by Solomon Jones. A good summer read - very fast paced and full of drama: drug dealers, no-good preachers, “officer down”’s, jacked up families, baby daddy/mama drama, car chases, shots fired, bodies dropping, pimps & hos, young love, middle age lust. A lot of stuff going on but it all pulls together with a nice little twist at the end. My kind of read. Good job Solomon! Nice picture too!

Hey Guys. Solomon Jones posts here from time to time. This story, like his prior two I believe, are set in Philadelphia where he lives. He’s a newspaper columnist for one of the papers there. He wrote Pipe Dream and The Bridge that came out last year I think and I read. Another fast paced street-drama-with-real-folks-in-it story. I know it sounds like a lot going on in this book but he ties it together as he goes along.

I really enjoyed Ride or Die, as well as Jones' previous two books. Solid mystery element, fast paced, timely.

Come to think of it I bet you do like snow in yo game. I bet you are one of dem no mustache wearin' brothas . Just kiddin dawg, you know we like two sheets a paper in a blind man's bible. I see ol'sisgal has graced our humble abode again. Didn't she retire or something? Just kiddin'.... no but didn't she?

Aw Carey baby, you know it ain’t like that. I’m just trying to not be so obvious with our business. You know, smoke screen and all that kinda stuff. Plus I’m trying to keep out of sight around here because Abm and Lambd’s nasty butts are gonna get us in trouble with Daddy Thump! Have you seen how they’ve been acting on the so-called “culture” board?

No I ain’t praying for y’all heathens! And I’m gonna tell Daddy Thump on y’all too – messing with Cynique and her boyfriend Viggo. And don’t even worry about Mr. Lambd – wait till I tell Daddy Thump about that big-tailed, red headed heffa he’s been sniffing after . . . |

Crystal, Don’t the ‘Good Book" say you spose tah pray fo dah sinnah? Well, if you get started now maybe sometime 1/2 past eternity you might manage to rescue Lambd’s wretched soul. And what gives, anyway? How yu gon’ co-sign for Cynique’s interracial ambitions yet try to put the C-block on Lambd’s redheaded escapade. Babe. That’s like ‘so’ unfair. Lambd, See. That’s what I don’t like about playin’ with girls. Cuz no matter how much fun they are to kiss-n-spoon with, (and boy-o-boy are they ever) dey always tattle. |

Crystal - Thanks for reading Ride Or Die and my other books as well. I appreciate the love ... and thanks for the compliment on the picture, too. You 'bout to make a black man blush. Carey, don't hate, I'm not trying to take the ladies away from you. I see you've got 'em on lockdown. But, anyway, back to Ride Or Die. The story takes place where all my books take place - in North Philly. But it could really take place anywhere, because all the elements exist everywhere. Fact of the matter is, wherever there are people, there is confusion and drama. Especially with our folks. That's why I love being black. We provide each other with countless hours of entertainment. Again, thanks so much for supporting my work. I really appreciate it. |

Hello Solomon I knew I'd find some way corner you about an autographed book *lol*. I know you remember our exchange when your first book hit *smile*. I can't share that with the rest of you, it's between two men and that wouldn't be right. It was however unique, so much so that I kept a copy of it. When I share my books with others I tell them the books are only part of the thrill, the conversations before and after recieving them are sometimes prizeless. And sometimes but very seldom, that exchange of e-mails is all I come away with. I would say that happens once in every 25 meetings. So what I've done with them is frame them. Oh yeah, see the author is talking directly with you, it's priceless and frequently funny. Anyway my good man, if I had the ladies in lock down then why am I washing all these clothes by myself and looking for my last can of beans to open up *lol*. My bed was awfully cold last night too. I have them in lockdown alright, and I'd better unlock them so we can move around some. That's right, I's don't want dat kind of love. Whew weee, somebody help me. But all jokes aside, thanks again for providing me with coffee table substance and hit me when you get a chance. I'd like to reach out to the world for you too. Oh, did I mention that I love your work? You got style brotha, and can surely write. I met a women from Philly some years ago. Yep, she went to Germantown High School. In fact,......in fact, we have a son together..........!!!! I can see the eyes widening now. Bye now. Carey Carey Carey |

Carey - You are laugh out loud funny. Thanks for the compliment on my work, too. I really appreciate it. Crystal - Writing Ride Or Die was a lot of fun. It was also a big challenge, since I was so far behind schedule that I had to write about two thirds of the book in a couple of months (that's what happens when you've got a wife, kids, and three jobs). I've since left one of my jobs and I'm working on the next book. That's why I haven't really been on the message board a lot. I hope you enjoy the next book as much as the last. Oh yeah, and AALBC does indeed provide me with countless hours of entertainment. We's a funny bunch ... |
