What it do, everybody? (for the older crowd: How are you?) Man, I saw Soul Plane on Saturday...I'm sorry, but WEAK is all I gotta say. What's wrong with us, folks? Can't we make good movies anymore? If you haven't seen Soul Plane, yet, BE THANKFUL! Movies I recommend seeing: 1. The Day After Tomorrow. EXCELLENT MOVIE! Packed with action! And very, very real! Don't believe me? Just check out "Global Warming" on the internet. This movie makes you want to get right with GOD. 2. Shrek. For everyone with kids, this is a must see. It's funny and too, too cute. |

Why did you even spend time on that movie. LOL As soon as I saw the preview, I cringed and vowed not to spend my money on that trash. Coonish and Bufoonery! Now, since I know you went to see this ... Don't you go see "White Chicks." You spent your money on one trashy movie. Don't do it on two. The Day After Tomorrow was great. I don't know how scientifically sound it was but the special effects were great. |

I missed you, too, Cynique. No, really! I thought about you all weekend, trying to figure out how I would get under your skin the next time we spoke. Looks like you beat me to it, though. And guess what? (I'm cracking up right now) You're right. I set myself up BIG TIME, 'cause I really don't have a comeback for you! Y'all believe that? You got me, Cynique! I'm bowing down right now. |

Cynique, There you go, tryin to fit all things hip hop into one categorey. Hip hop covers a multitude of sins! So don't put us in a box with an all purpose label and sweep everything in. |

Come on, now, a-womon, Yukio considers himself hip-hop and is probably about your and justwrite's age. (Even I confessed on one occasion that my midwestern homeboy Nellie was my guilty pleasure.) Now, when are you ladies going to embrace your heritage and become familiar with jazz??? |

Cyn, IACUAFOTG!!HAHAHAHAHA! ok, ok, you got me! you mean jazz as in Billie Holiday or Kenny-G? Cause I like both. I also like the woman I think it's Etta James? That sings a song that's goes "....I'd rather go bliind than to see you walk away with another woman...." something like that! See, I like a lot of different types of music

Cynique: Just because a movie has hip hoppers in it doesn't make it hip hop. |

Come on now, yawl! What can you expect from a film that features Snoop Dogg, Method Man and Monique? YUCK! And will someone PLEASE tell the ‘samboing’ Wayans that In Living Color has been off the air for almost a decade? BTW: I'm kinda diggin' all of the belly-rubbin' between Justwrite and A_womon. Hey ladies! Can I get in on your lovefest? YUM! |

A-womon, you're showing a little promise, there. Kenny G-is not really considered an authtentic jazz artist; maybe lite jazz. Billy Holiday is, of course, a classic jazz vocalists. And, yes, Etta James. |

Yes, Chris, a lot of hip-hop artists appear in mainstream movies. But that ain't the case in "Soul Train". |

No, I haven't heard this, Yukio. But I've often wondered why rappers didn't experiment with sampling jazz in their cuts. |

Cynique, Check out some De la soul, Tribe Called Quest and Diggable Planets (late '80's - early '90's) for some nice Jazz samples. |

abm: right...have u heard of MC Solar..or something like that...french rapper(black); he also uses jazz in his music. cynique: hip hop is quite diverse...jazz, as abm has identified, has been part and particle of the artform since the late 80s. politically, there are the black nationalist artist, third worldist artist, few conservative artist, many misoynistic artists...but this is really a problem of the male sex in general... |

Actually, I've always considered Rap to be word-jazz because it does with the voice what a jazz musician does with an instrument. Improvise. So I am not surprised to hear that there have been collaborations between these 2 genres. I'm just not that up on what's new out there in music anymore. |
