Hey All,

Did anyone happen to catch this interview by chance? I missed it, but a couple of my friends said that he was on there talking about his book deal with Vicky Stringer's Triple Crown Publications and he didn't appear to be to happy with the deal, something about royalties or something. Anyone hear it?

Sorry A_Womon,

I didn't hear it, but if you find anything else about the interview let me know.

Thanks.

I didn't hear about that one either. But I see that Shannon's next book will be published by Atria. So there must be some validity about the author's unhappiness with the other publisher.

Hi A_woman,

"A Job Ain't Nothing But Work" is going up and down in rank on BN.com. It's stagnant on other sites. I won't know how well or poorly it's really doing until I receive a sales report from the publisher in August.

Three publishers are looking at my novel about love, sex, and relationships. It usually takes 3-4 months to get word.

Thanks for asking.

Emanuel,

Are you publishing under a penname or using your real name? What do most writers do? I am debating the issue as to what would be the reasons that people use pennames. I would think that after all the hardwork they would want people to know that they are the face behind the work. But then again, when you think about it, if your work doesn't do well (horrors!) maybe keeping your identity secret could be a benefit.:-0

Emanuel,

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask you. How did you get your book in front of three publishers? It is my understanding that once you submit to a publisher, you can't submit to others at the same time. You have to wait until you hear from whomever you submitted to first. Is this correct?

A_womon,

My guess to your question is that you can submit your manuscript to whoever, whenever you want, but you can only SIGN a contract with one publisher. Remember this is your work and you have the right to shop around for the best place for it and you.

BTW: Did you find an information about the interview?

Eviana,
No, when I searched the web under Shannon Holmes nothing came up except his books, and with Wendy Williams her website came up but it had nothing about any interviews. I'll keep my ears and eyes open though!

A_womon,

As long as the publisher doesn't prohibit multiple submissions, you're okay. They usually specify if it's their policy.

I am publishing under my real name. I think authors use pen names for many reasons:

1) To keep their lives private
2) If they've published under another name with success and want to keep that fan base when publishing something different.
3) If they've written something that could embarrass them or jeopardize their careers or safety.

I'm sure there are many more reasons.

That interview was from the end of 2003. Shannon was not talking bad about Triple Crown or Vickie. He owns Half of Triple Crown with Vickie. They both are signed to Atria as authors. Atria is owned by mega publisher's Simon and Shuster. He was expressing his disapointment in how Atria handling him at the time!

I heard the interveiw Mr.Holmes did with Ms.Williams in fact I taped it.I would like to take this time to set a few wrong's right 1)Shannon Holmes wrote B-More Careful Ms.Terri Woods did not write any part of this best seller. 2)In the movie Never Die Alone DMX did a song one of the lyrics say's (like Terri Woods i've got to B-more careful) no DMX (like Shannon Holmes you've got to B-more Careful) I am a lover of Mr.Holmes's work and would like to see him get credit for his hard work.
