Big props to Fantastic!!!! The girl got down with the "get down" Tuesday night. At first, I really believed the show was fixed and Ms. DeGarbage would be the one to take Ruben's crown. Now, though, I don't know. Everybody's talkin' 'bout Fantasia! Woohoo! Anyway, How the hell is everyone? |

You know, it ain't safe yet. Clearly, she is the most original and should win, but with WA votes, golden girl may very well wear the crown. They have already kicked off, the best singer, Latoya! But the most original, and marketable will be without a doubt, Fantasia! BTW - thanks Always_lurking |

Okay, I'm gonna say this, and I hope I don't sound like a hater 'cause I'm far from that... LaToya is my girl for more reasons than one could imagine. 1. She's from the Bay like I am 2. Before American Idol, she would come to my house and sing with me (no, I'm not a singer, just like to mess around from time to time) Without boring you guys to death over how I know LaToya, let's just say we're no strangers to each other, and because of that I got her back like a car seat! But now, let's keep it real for a minute... Just because LaToya was more of a polished singer, DOES NOT make her the best in the competition. I'm sorry, but it just doesn't. Matter fact, I thought she was rather boring. And guess what. She knew it! Nonetheless, that was my girl and I still supported her week after week. Let's talk about Fantastic, though. She's just that: FANTASTIC! Real! Loose! Fun to watch! Don't give a *^%! and last, ain't trying to look too pretty for cameras. The judges loved her last night! The girl sent chills through me that was felt by my mama!!! LaToya never did that. Come on, don't lie either! You know she never did that! In summing things up, I think America has found what they're looking for! She's a tall black woman with big lips!!! I'm confident America did the right thing by voting for her last night. If I'm wrong, and she's voted off tonight, I'll be back tomorrow to pay each of you $10.00 big ones, kay? (smiles) |

I don't have that much faith in America and the voting practices that Fox employs to assure a victory for Fantasia. Between Fantasia and Diana, I believe that Fantasia is the better singer and overall performer but several factors still remain: 1. Fox is insistent on subconsciously reminding us that Fantasia has a child and no husband to go with the child. In previous years other contestants have had children and they weren't shown or discussed. Ryan talks about her child EVERY chance he gets and while it comes across as a good thing, she's not ashamed and has no reason to be, White America might not be so taken with the notion of that as a role model. 2. Back to voting... AT&T is the sponsor so calls from their network I firmly believe get top billing. Then those computerized dialers- where do you get one? Enough said about that. But voting is a major issue and I think if the phenomonon of AI is to continue they should consider reversing the process to vote for who we want to kick off each week. Even then, one vote per household or one vote per phone line- be it land line or cellular. 3. Diana is white and clearly white folk are really into this. We as black folk get frustrated and we're quick to call the race card, denounce the whole process and refuse to participate in the process which leaves the door wide open for Diana to walk through. Clearly Fantasia needs our support NOW more than ever and I for one will give it to her. |

(inside joke). but you know i agree with you on that one. had Jasmine NOT been voted off last night, then i would have thrown in my AI towel. that chile could not hold a tune if you gave it to her personally. she was awful and shocked that she made it "that" far. and as justwrite says, although LaToya is a polished singer, she just didn't woe me like fantasia. chile, that Fantasia has brought tears to my eyes and sent chills up my spine with a few of her songs. *tossing tissue* Diana DeGarbage? ahaha, that's funny. she can sing but has been slipping lately. hasn't been consistent and i'm surprised simon hasn't said anything about her weight. *one eyebrow up* |

Well, I missed Jasmine being kicked to the curb, but I'm glad America got it right, late, but okay. Now, the real test. Fantasia got to cross the finish line...and I agree with you AKA, they do keep pushing that single motherhood thing up in our face, like that's got something to do with singing. I don't trust Fox, or America in their voting, so we just got to VOTE too! Next week and in November. okaaay. Look, say what you want, Latoya is a excellent singer, soulful, puts me in the mind of Gladys Knight. She will go a long way, anyway, and she was not boring to me, she was absolutely beautiful, a standup singer, who will stand the test of time. Like I said earlier, Fantasia, is the most original, has the swagger and style, and she brought tears to my eyes too. But don't say Latoya didn't bring down the house when she sang "Don't rain on my parade", Shutup now, that girl sung that song! Gladys was no Patti Labelle, but give her a mic, and she does her thing, consistent, polished, just darn good, 30 years later.

Hey everyone!! I'm with you Sisg, LaToya had class all the way around. She had a quiet kind of demeanor that wasn't all "in your face" as some folks are. I really liked that she was always professional, poised, and presented herself well. She reminds me of Gladys Knight too. She's my choice for American Idol without actually winning the title. I was quite disappointed when she was voted off. Fantasia is a bit too ghetto-fabalous for me, but she does have a wonderful singing voice. There were quite a few songs she sung that left me with a big WOW! I also like Diana's voice -- though it is a bit inconsistent. Out of the two, I'm kinda stuck like I was like year. I really liked both contestants and it was hard choosing, but if I just HAD to choose...hmmm, I'd probably choose Fantasia basing it on SINGING voice alone. -Tee |

Tee, You're right. Now that I'm older I'm not entertained by someone jumping all around the stage. I rarely go to concerts anymore and the quality of a person's voice is what sells me. LaToya was the best singer out of all of the girls left and I believe that she should not have been voted off. When she sung Barbara Streisand's record "Don't Rain on My Parade" I was sold (one of my favorite songs from a movie). I know that I will purchase her CD when it's released, can't say the same for the other 3 with the same certainty. |

I ain't stupid or death...between Jazzy and Fantasia, I knew who should be the victor, but you know, that ain't always the case..right. And I'm sticking with, NOT BETTER, JUST A DIFFERENT FLAVOR! It's cool though...

Tee - Justwrite asked me a question. I had to answer it. But okay, I'll get on topic. Fantasia was clearly the better singer last night. She ripped that last song to shreds; tore it to pieces. But she still might not win because this is America and (sorry kc_trudiva) she's not being judged on her singing ability alone. Diana DeGarmo can yell and hit high notes, but songs consist of much more than just the high notes. However, she's cute, young, and blonde. And like I said before, this is America and she's not being judged on her singing ability alone. I tried to get through three times on two lines to cast my vote for Fantasia. The lines were busy every time. But that's all right. I'll do for her what I plan to do for LaToya. I'll cast my vote at the store. |

I'm pulling for Miss Fantasia. While I know the odds are against her, I managed to vote for her over 10 times. I stopped counting at 10. Could never get through on my cell phone but my home phone connected over 10 times. The last song Fantasia did, I thought she was going to Shout, get in the spirit and take those folk in Hollywood away. I think Tamyria wrote that song just for her because Diana DeGarbarge didn't do a thing for it! |

Well, in this case racism becomes a 2-way street, if all black folks vote for Fantasia because she's black. And I'm sure this is what they will be doing. Personally, I don't think Fantasia is a better singer than Diana. To me, they appeal to 2 different tastes, and project 2 different images. If the majority of voters who get through prefer Diana's polished performance to Fantasia's gritty style, then that's the way the ball bounces. People have become too emotionally involved in what has degenerated into a popularity contest that pits "us" against "them". (And, like the OJ trial, generates astronomical ratings) |

true... it is very much an "us" against "them" thing now. In this case where neither person has done nothing illegal or unethical or detrimental to their race - I'll pull for my own EVERY time. If this had come down to Latoya and Fantasia then it would be different but since "them" weren't going to let THAT happen, I'll stick with "us". |

Akaivyleaf. I have to agree with you here...had the contest been fair in the beginning, there would be no US against THEM...u know. And actually I think Diana has a good voice, but she screamed alot last night, and is not, in my taste the better performer. It does however come down to taste...but aside from that the media, newspapers, tv has created this atmosphere of US vs THEM, just the other day in our GA newspaper, people vented about "Fantasia's" single motherhood, educational level..."who better to be the American Idol, sweet, moral, Diana, or somebody's baby mama." This incites all of us, not to mention the unfair, lack of objective judging and voting when it came to Latoya London. THis creates the atmosphere of US against THEM, not since OJ's trial (like Cynique said) has there been such an uproar, such involvement, as I dialed, and texted until I got through. If only we could do the same in November..u know. Anyway, I'm pulling for Fantasia, not only because she is black, but I do think she is the better performer and deserves it. |

I will continue to play the devil's advocate here. How can you say something is unfair if the person who wins is the one who got the most votes? Why couldn't it be that LaToya and Fantasia split the black vote and the deluge of votes from Hawaii enabled Jasmine to beat out LaToya? And why couldn't it be that Jasmine was so popular in Hawaii because the natives there ain't that into the "soul" of Fantasia? In any case, I think Fantasia is going to win. You know why? Because she's going to garner a sizeable amount of white votes. (I doubt if any black person will vote for Diana.) Is this about who's the best singer? Maybe. But it is also about the fact that some people like mayonnaise and others like hot sauce. (Personally, I don't give a shit who wins. I'm more concerned about my cable bill going up again and how my computer is acting up. LOL) |

If they split the black vote, then the vote's to Jasmine are just bc she's Hawaian or one of the best singers that night? I beg the differ! The white people, and some GA folks are voting light, bright, white, and d#$%^ near white, okay! Cynique with you, I wouldn't expect it any other way, than you to play the devil's advocate! Okay, let me put it to you this way, and I know I'm going to lose some points after I'm done. It's okay, though. Believe me, I won't cry...not in front of you anyway... LaToya WAS NOT what America wanted! Damn! Why can't people just accept that? I'm sorry, but this is truly a hip-hop generation who's looking for the next Mary J. Blige, not Anita Baker. LaToya's flavor was for an older crowd, which it sounds like a lot of you are. I know a lot of you are cursing me out right now, which is fine. I just call it like I see it. Last, the show is fixed! Come on people, think about it. There is no way in hell Jasmine Trias got the least amount of votes when she was voted off. Simon said, "This must end tonight." And that's exactly what happened after the producers finished tinkering with the numbers. Just like tonight! Fantasia WILL win NOT because of America's votes (BLACK FOLKS the majority of us DON'T VOTE!!!!), but because Simon said, "Fantasia, turn around and read what's in back of you." What was in back of her, folks? A sign that said American Idol! You heard it here first, people. |

Okay, Justwrite, Now you know, I don't catfight, I DON'T CATFIGHT!!! BUT DAMN HIP-HOP! You think you all just came and discovered music, hell, everything hip-hop came from old, so it ain't no hate thing. Yeah we are older, but we not OLD. If you've been around long enough, you would know and see, that everything repeats, and resurfaces. And by the way, old BUY MUSIC TOO! Whether it be Anita Baker, who sings a whole lot better than Mary J on a good night. I'm America, and I would buy a Latoya London CD because the girl can sing, and will be a major force. The fixed thing, I'm not going to argue about that, it may be true. And by the way, what makes Fantasia so good, is not only that she can sing, but she sings like and OLD SOUL, not a hip-hop soul. Bring on your hip-hop divas, I'll put up my old school divas next to them anytime. Why I got Aretha, Gladys, Patti, Phyliss, who you got? LOL ps....got nuthin but love for ya Justwrite! |

LOL...y'all remind me of some of my older friends telling me the same thing about songs and hairstyles and clothing coming back in style. And yep, you're right. As far as AI, I can see it being an "us" against "them" but for me, I like who "I" like. And while it is a singing competition, don't the judges always talk about personality? I thought that was a factor. I think they both can sing...both have had good songs/bad songs. So, it comes down to the personality and what "idol" represents to me. To me, ghettofabulous, just doesn't fit that and I'm okay with disagreeing with you Fantasia fans. <grin> I say much luck to her. Now that LaToya's gone (and Justwrite, I'm not "older" but she was so classy to me and represented the full package of my "idol" definition), I don't really care...that kinda ended my fascination for the show. (I also loved Jennifer's voice and thought it was better than Fantasia's...but those faces she made turned me off, but that girl could sing! Idol? Nope? All the bucking eyes, smacking teeth, attitude and stuff? Hehe...nope, I wasn't feeling it.) But Cynique, I do agree with you, I do think the black votes (of those who voted) were split. Justwrite, yep, I think Fantasia will win because of exactly what you said--Simon loves her. I'll buy both CDs when they come out, just as I did with Reuben and Clay. -Tee |

Today's old school generation does not imitate those who came before them; they simple carry on a tradition of real music. All hip-hoppers can do is sample old school music because they know nothing they come up with can touch it! And American Idol doesn't have to fix the voting. Whether Diana wins or loses, she is going to outsell the winner just like Clay Aiken is doing. And I don't think the demographics of the voting public is made up of any more hip-hoppers than other segments of the population. As for Alicia Keys, she'a quite overrated, and Mary J Blige has a hard time staying on key. The bottom line is that good music is good music, and it transcends all colors and races and generations. As for Fantasia, you can find hundreds of black girls just like her, decked out in their rip-off designer duds, hangin out at the club, sipping an apple martini, jumpin up off their bar stool, shouting "oooh, there's my song," before they start crooning along with a record. And, of course, we know girls like Diana are a dime a dozen at Karaoke bars all over the country. Yawnn. Excuse me while I go take a nap. |

AHahha...Cynique, you are too much! Tell it like it is. I hear ya though. I'm about done with the conversation and members on one of my groups are getting all geared up. One of them just asked what "ghetto-fabulous" means...whew. I think I need to work the delete button and get back to work. P.S. Hope to meet you at BEA.

Tee, girl, guy, whatever, I'm feeling you, baby. A-woman, please explain what IACUAFOTG means. Hey Sisg, can you bounce your booty like Bionce' (is that spelled right)? Come on, girl. Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh!!!! There you go; you got it! Now, tell me that didn't make you feel alive! Well, that's what LaToya didn't give, that's all I'm saying. Please hear the sincerity in my words.(LOL) She acted like she was scrrrrred to get loose or something. Here's something that's real, though. Did you guys notice everybody was in the house last night EXCEPT for LaToya? What's up with that??? Think she's bitter? Actually, I talked to her brother last night, and he said they're all suposed to perform tonight. We'll see. Oh, yea, I got love for you, too, Sisg |

Tee wrote: In continuing from what I was saying last night, I do think Fantasia has a beautiful voice (when singing), she's just a bit ghetto fabulous for me (when talking). Ghetto fabulous, in the same manner of some characters in some books? I haven't been following the show but if singing abilities doesn't matter, then why do they have them singing songs each week? If it's about looks then that's just a regular ole beauty contest. |

Aw Lawd...here I go. I need to change my home page. ROFL. Everytime I come to look for something on the internet, Thumper's Corner pops up and I can't just keep going to Google like I intended. I'm going to have to change it! Justwrite...it's Tee (short for Martina, long for "T" my nickname)--I'm a she. JMHO, I'm not saying I have a problem with looks, as I'm no beauty queen, it's just the way she talks. If she's not using the babified voice that reminds me of my two year old (which is cute, but dang, Fantasia is not two), she's saying things like "We was eat'n" or other sentences where the subject and verb don't agree. I don't even want to continue to think about it. Yuck... I'm done for real. I'll catch y'all next season. I have been doing a lot of reading, so I'll stop through the appropriate thread and read some of those. -Tee C. Royal tee@rawsistaz.com

All, Could we agree never to use the phrase or anything similar to "pull the race card"? That phrase makes me so upset. It is a phrase that white people have made up to excuse themselves of failing to deal with inequalities that black people have to face everday in almost every area of our lives, but especially in the area of the justice system. It is another face to phrases that white people invent to insidiously remind us that it is our fault not thiers that things go wrong in our lives. Just like the phrase "black on black crime" remember that one? As if blacks were the only sector of people who commit crimes against one another.(read: only people dumb enough to harm one another) when the reality is all people commit crimes where they live! but you never heard the phrase white on white crime or mexican on mexican crime etc etc. Why are we so quick to pick up the white invented labels and wear them around? |

hold up Cynique.... wait a minute here, you're saying that just because one likes an apple martini and can claim that the song that comes on that sends us in droves to the dance floor defines us as ghetto fabulous? Lawd have mercy... I've finally arrived. As far as Fantasia's speaking ability and defining it as Ghettofabulous... She doesn't speak well but the environment from which she hails doesn't speak well. Have you ever been to High Point? Both white folk and black folk speak the same vernacular but we wouldn't call the white people ghettofabulous- more like poor white trash. When that is all you hear, that is what you emulate. Diana, she was a good southern girl, Mr. Simon, Miss Paula, Mr. Randy... She goes to a school of excellence here in Georgia and it is among the top ranked schools in Georgia so English is spoken better at her school and the environment that she's in is conducive to that behavior. They both have the trade mark southern twang. I don't think that Fantasia's lack of finesse makes her ghettofabulous it provides a growing opportunity for her if she is willing to take it. Now that baby talk, whining she does.... thats a different story. That ain't ghetto either, that is just plain stupidity and hopefully that will be the first thing removed from her image as soon as she gets with an image consultant. |

I have scantly watched American Idol since the conclusion of its inaugural season. I was so turned off by AI's first winner Kelly ("Hey! Watch me try to sing like a White 'Aretha'.") and its runner-up Justin (~It's Black, it's White. It's tough for you to get by. Yeah, Yeah, Yeeaah!~ [M. Jackson]), I have barely been able to stand it since. BTW: Do EITHER of them still have a career? I have heard some of last season's winner Ruben. He can sing some. Although, I fear his voice/style/persona are about a generation tardy. And don't get me started about last year's runner up Clay(mation). I mean, that guy makes the syrupy Barry Manilow appear as soulful as the great-late Barry White. I know NOTHING about this year's TV-fabricated crop of "Idols". So it will be interesting to observe which of your opinions prove out. But I have a question for all you rabid AI fans: Is AI REALLY a valid pop superstar making vehicle...or is the only thing American Idol has achieved is revive the sagging Q-rating of former 'idol' Paula Abdul and make record exec Simon into the Brit we American's love most to hate? PS: Hey! Did anyone ever find out whether Abdul was part-Black? I seem to recall her (desperately) trying to DISPROVE that. |

I never referred to Fantasia as "Ghetto Fabulous". I was simply observing that she is more typical than unique. And she's certainly not my idea of an idol to be worshipped. I'll leave that option to justwrite and a_womon. I think the rest of us are old enough to know better. (If I'm lookin for a distinguished, raspy-voiced interpreter of the old standards, I'll stick with Macy Gray.)

Sade is a hack who was lucky enuff to come along when looks began to supplant talent as vehicles to 'pop stardom'! Her voice has the all the charm of that of an inebriated old woman. I got the scope on that chick when I...Horror-of-Horrors!...attended a Sade concert in the 1980's. Her voice was AWFUL (obviously it was being artificially enhanced during record production)! She was pausing strangely throughout her performance. She appeared to forget the words to some of her songs. And she was making a lot of clumsy movements that I must assume were her futile attempts to 'dance'. It was like watching someone have a nervous breakdown right before your eyes. No, the person you all should "love" is her musical producer and/or arranger. There in lies the true talent in that outfit. Seriously, that dude (or 'dudette') has worked so much musical voodoo with Sad(e)'s dreadful tonality, he could give magic lessons to David Copperfield.

Totally disagree. In the first place, Sade doesn't look that spectacular. Her appeal has to do with her husky, sexy voice, her ability to stay on key and her impeccable phrasing. |

Okay, once again the princess of literature (me) is speaking... (clearing my throat) Okay, for once, and believe me, I'm shaking my head as I say this, I agree with CYNIQUE about Sade's sex appeal having to do with her voice. However, I must add that she has a unique look that makes her (in a small way) beautiful. Now, about the performance... ABM, Sade was probably full (meaning "high" out in Cali) when you saw her perform. Remember when they busted her in the Islands with like, two pounds of marijuana? 'Member that? It was all over the news. |

Solomonjones, Thanks. I always find it funny when a woman tries to tell a man whether or not another woman is pretty. Believe-you-me: Sade had a successful singing career because she looked good on music videos, TV and magazine covers. If she looked like Missy Elliot, she would be still waiting table in some 'dive' in the cockney section of London. |

Cynique, I hate to be your Sade iconoclast. But believe me: I KNOW what I am talking about here. All your talk about her being able to "...stay on key and her impeccable phrasing..." is REALLY the product of some skillful studio production and engineering. Sade’s whole career is based on her having an exotic (biracial) appearance and a hellava producer/arranger/engineering team. Justwrite, Oh no! Not YOU TO, Darling! Dang! Well, I hate to be the reason why you and Cynique "agree" (I know, THAT hurts me as much as it does you.)...but I am afraid you both are wrong. (hehehe!) I ain’t buying the "~And then I got high~" excuse. That was just a cover for it being made public that she was a no-talent. Check it: Do you think Sade is the FIRST performer who went through a "high" period during the high of her career? Of course not! What do Elvis, Miles Davis, Eric Clapton, The Temptations, Natalie Cole, The Rolling Stones, Billy Holiday, Rick James, Led Zeppelin, NWA, Snoop Dog have in common? They were/are all considered great singers/performers who have been known to partake of more than their fair share of "kronic breaks"... sometimes even DURING their performances. Hell, Jimi Hendricks was the greatest guitarist ever...and was "full" his entire adult life. So face it: If you can’t sing/dance...you just can’t sing/dance! PERIOD! And, yeah, I’ve heard the "but she’s got a really sexy/sultry voice" spiel. But - and I know this is tuff - try to do this: Put on a Sade song, as best you can, focus on her voice without the music...then imagine that she looked like Aretha Franklin. Then tell me whether you think she would have been a pop star. |

Sorry, Abm, I don't accept what you say as anything more than an opinion. Sade has charisma, a distinctive voice, a sensuous presence and a repertory of songs well-suited to her style of vocalizing. And I'd like to know what recording artist doesn't benefit from a good producer?? Very few of them have perfect pitch or are that great at singing accappello. I've seen Sade in person and with her tight back-up band, she is very comfortable and impressive in a live venue. And where is it written that a woman can't judge another woman's looks. Sade's face lacks symmetry. Her imperfection is what makes her compelling in appearance, but I still don't think she's beautiful - an opinion I'm entitled to because I don't think you or any other man is any more of a connoisseur of beauty than me or any other woman. Sex-appeal is one thing; beauty is another. |

Interesting points made. In the 80's Sade was one of the hottest acts around. And she rightly earned that title. The lyrics of her songs, the melody and most importantly her voice. That's what makes a person. The unique talent that they hold and Sade was one of the ones who has it. ABM, The night you saw Sade she was probably high on something a little stronger than marijuana. She was a heavy drug user and admitted it. And some of those singers that you mentioned who used drugs did the same thing that Sade did in the performance that you spoke of. But back to the subject, I said it once and I'll say it again, Fantasia can sing, but I like LaToya's style as well as her voice. But as long as a sister brought home the title - that's all that really matters. |

http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2004-05-29-idol-radio_x.htm Durham minister seeks DJ's ouster for 'Idol' comments DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — A Durham minister has started an online petition drive to oust a local morning radio personality for "racially incendiary" comments insulting American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino. Bob Dumas, host of WDGC's top-rated "Showgram", on Thursday used the term "ghetto" and "low class" to describe Barrino, who is black and had a child out of wedlock. Dumas, who is white, said his use of the term "ghetto" were not race-specific. "It can be black, it can be white, it can be Hispanic. It can be anybody," he said. The Rev. Paul Scott, a Baptist minister and founder of the Messianic Afrikan Nation ministry in Durham, said the term was a "code word" of white supremacists to describe the actions of those in the black community. He called the term "racially incendiary" and is circulating a petition on the Internet calling for an apology and Dumas' dismissal. "It's a shame that the African-American community has reached a point where white male DJs can feel comfortable disrespecting black women without consequence," Scott said. The radio station's assistant program director and music director Chase, who uses only one name, declined to repeat Dumas' remarks but acknowledged that Dumas used the words "ghetto" and "low class." He too said there was nothing racist in the remarks. '"Ghetto' and 'low class' don't insinuate racism," he said. "It insinuates personality traits. He made a point that this had nothing to do with race." The station has received some calls and e-mails about Thursday's show, Chase said. Barrino, 19, of High Point, defeated 16-year-old Diana DeGarmo of Snellville, Ga., in the conclusion of the Fox network series on Wednesday. She received a standing ovation for I Believe, a gospel-tinged song that will become her first single. Dumas and then co-host Madison Lane were taken off the air last fall after Dumas encouraged listeners to run bicyclists off the road. Dumas laughed at listeners' stories of abusing cyclists and even said he sometimes throws YooHoo bottles at them. In 1998, the station suspended the pair for offering concert tickets to listeners who took off their clothes in downtown Raleigh. Dumas was also suspended in 1994 for remarks containing sexual and racial overtones during the show's regular "True Confessions" segment. Scott has led several local protests, including one that ended sales of a brand of malt liquor. Scott also objected to a CBS miniseries that depicted Jesus as white. He said the image was inaccurate and damaging to black children.
