Now it can be told:
Your own Chris Hayden has a book set for release this fall (thereby giving you all plenty of time to gather up the brickbats, sharpen the critical tomahawks and pile up the rotten tomatoes--but I hope you love it!)
The title is VAMPYRE BLUES: The Passion of Vanardos and it will be published by Cornel Chesney's Door of Kush Publications (which already publishes the works of Kola Boof--latest release Flesh and the Devil out today!)
Vampyre Blues has a release date just before Holloween, October 16th, 2004--a fitting date for an African American Vampyre Romance.
I am not the only one on this list who has something in the works with the Mighty Door of Kush Publications--our own Sisgal is also considering signing with Door of Kush.
You may be wondering how this came about? Who plucked Chris Hayden's long neglected work from obscurity?
None other than the above mentioned Kola Boof made it all happen! So there to anybody who thinks she doesn't got a heart!

I am so sorry that people's hatred for me kept them from congratulating you on your new book deal.
I know how much that hurts, because they used to do things like that to me all the time.
It's a fine novel and you're a clever, funny writer.

Well Chris,
Let me be the first to say BIG CONGRATS!!! on your upcoming book (even though I haven't read it). You see, for people like us, who finally have been given a break...it means alot to us to be published...and that doesn't mean we won't put our best foot forward. And yes, the secret is out, I too have a novel to be published and it may very well be with Door of Kush, THANKS KOLA, for reaching out and allowing me this opportunity. By the way, it's a wonderful article, Kola! Chris, a vampire romance, a black vampire romance...I think vampires have always been the sexiest creature, and so my interest level is already high. More to come on my novel....and some more good news!

as you'll recall from my attempts/offers to help YOU with your own career.....nobody has had to be my friend or kiss up to me for them to be a sister.
If God sent an opportunity....then I turned around and tried to help Linda get booked at speaking engagements.....I offered to get you signed up with my agent--sent portions of your work along with my letter of recommendation to editors at publishing houses that I knew (REMEMBER? You never even asked...I did that, because I saw true talent in your book, but you only seem to remember our "cultural" disagreements)......I did for Chris Hayden and Sisgal only because they're solid writers who need a break and my publisher ASKED ME if I knew of any un-tapped talent out there. He gave me full reign to oversee publication of any 2 books I wanted. I chose people that I thought deserved a shot.
Sisgal and I still really don't even know each other. I just asked her to send in her book. She and I have spoken once, that's about it. But It's her TALENT that will take her to the people.
And I'm sure Troy Johnson could tell you some stories about how I...as an activist...support those that I believe in. Even when we're at odds.
Your comment was unfair and totally unfounded.
And as for A_FUTON, I'm sure she wouldn't even accept help from an evil, sluttish "worthless" nobody and never will be anybody like me.

What you don't get, Kola, is that if I had wanted your help, I would've asked for it. I was not interested in shopping my book around because I realized that it had no niche in the publishing industry. If you think I'm supposed to be appreciative of your taking it upon yourself to submit my book to people without my permission, then you are mistaken! Your condescending benevolence does not resonate with me. I have a completed manuscript for another book which is gathering dust, and when and if I decide to try and get it out there, I'll do it my way. Not yours. |

Hey All,
First of all let me say congrats To chris and sisgal! If that's the route you chose to take I hope all works out for you!
Secondly, if i never in life realize my dream of being published i will never ever in this life or the next, kiss anyone's behind to make it happen! Believe that! I will become a published author in God's time and no one else's I don't need help from anyone but HIM. As I stated, I managed to get my First Novel into the hands of someone who is reading it and may open a lot of doors for me. I didn't need Ms Thang then and I don't need her now. If ya didn't know, now ya now!!!
and as for her name calling, I said all I had to say to her about that too, I will not be drawn into a battle of the dozens again with a grown azz woman who is supposedly worldly and full of wisdom and who is only a name (many names?) on a board again. I regret that I stooped to her level the first time. I usually have way more class than that. What all of you should remember, I never said anything to this woman, she is the one who stepped to me with all of the insults and without provocation I might add.! That is how I will always view her and nothing she can do will change that. |

To all, Thanks!
This board never fails to amaze me, and keeps me coming back, day after day, for more. This has been both a difficult year for me and yet still a rewarding one. Not only do I look forward to the publishing of one book, but two, since just last week I received an offer on a childrens book I self-published some years ago, (after some serious rewriting,mind you). Thumpers board, and the postees have kept me both amused, and informed through the years. I received encouragement in the most indirect way, when established writers stopped in and chatted about their books, and when others like yourself shared your stories of self-publishing, publishing or just wanting to publish. Guys, if you been around for a time or two, you will know, I don't cat fight ...lol..."i'm a lover not a fighter", okay I digress.
oh by the way, no puckering involved here...and on an end note, in the words and voice of the American Idol kicked off last week "Ain't gonna let nobody rain on my parade....!

regarding the rewrites on your children's book, did your publisher suggest the rewrites, or did you take it upon yourself to do them before you submitted? Was the rewriting a process of weeks, months, or what? If at the publisher's request, did you have the last word on final copy? |

First, Sisg I congratulate you on getting published. It is gratifying to hear that someone with your calm, soulful style have a book in the offing. I pray that you enjoy boundless prosperity!
GEE! I am SOOOORRRRRRY. Dang! I must have fell off the back of that dangblasted turnip truck, struck my head on a fire hydrant and had a fitful schizoid Kum Bi Yah moment or something. It's clear the lines of demarcation are too deeply drawn here.
But this does remind me of a favorite line in Oscar Wilde's famed 'Dorian Gray': "I choose my enemies for their good intellects. A man cannot be too careful in the choice of his enemies."
I quoted that to say it is often the one who calls and proves us out to be an idiot who ultimately do us the most good, perhaps because our enemy propels us to improve/excel in ways that our allies never can. So, who knows? Perhaps the irrasciable Kola can provide the jagged stones upon which the indominable A_womon shines and sharpens her literary/intellectual steel.
But I am for now weary of arguing. So rest assured, I now disqualify myself from further input here.

A-womon,
After some of the feedback I got from trying to land a contract with a traditional publisher, I took it upon myself to make some changes. Once complete, I queried several publishers and posted my synopsis on a website for writers. A publisher contacted me and requested the first 3 chapters, and then later the manuscript. She said she loved it, but it required some revision, and asked if I was agreeable to it. She made some suggestions and sent it back for me to make revisions. I made more revisions, and at this date, still refining. The publisher never took upon herself to make changes that I didn't agree to. The entire process has taken nearly 6 months, since she first requested my manuscript in December and we really don't look at seeing the finished product until next spring. I am so pleased, because this was "my baby" my first, and the editing and additional revisions only made it better. And yes, I have the last word on the final copy. Good luck to you and your writing! ANd let me know when your book comes out.

I'll try ('Yeah, right!') not to belabor the point. But suffice it to say that along your travels as an author you'll likely find many instances where to improve, grow and...GET PAID, you must "...'adjust' a tad."
And you may be required to change in accordance with the designs of someone with whom you otherwise (even greatly) differ.
I myself graduated college largely because of the ambiguous gratuity of 2 White men. One was an avowed atheist and a flamboyantly flirtatious homosexual. And the other a blatantly racist, chain-smoking, peeping tom who is reputed to have once been affiliated with the Klan!
So I, with all due "respect", suggest that you not limit your learning only to and among that and those with which you only comfortably agree. Because you don't have to 'become' someone to 'learn' from her.

Thanks for the feedback! I have written for childrens books about a very touchy subject from a child's eye point of view in addition to my novel and I hope to shop those around as well before long.
Gee, I am at step one, you know? I too queried,but was lucky enough that the first person I queried asked for a 31 page sample of my novel. After that they requested the rest of my manuscript, so there I am. I'll keep you all up on the progress though. Shoot, I might even write a book about my process in getting this far, it was really Some Story! Keep me up on your books to Sis!

We had just gotten to the point where we were discussing books, language, authors of standing and credibility. It was like the good ol days. I was loving it. I mean to have the board back to that state. Now, I banned a certain person from this board, I haven't lifted it. Not in the least. If certain people like ABM and others don't like it, too bad. I aint got nothin for em. If they find this board boaring because a certain person is no longer welcomed here, I sho hate it. I guess the board will have to carry on without em. This board is about readers, people who love to read and talk about books. It has never been about one person, it has been about books, our books, books about us written by us. Now, I'm going to talk about books, with the exception of my countertop experience. *smile* |

Well DANG everybody!!! I see why there's so much attacking going on. I don't by all means want to know but I gotta ask anyway. WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED ON THIS BOARD???? LOL. It seems like it's some serious issues out there and after reading Thumper's post I couldn't help but laugh while sitting in awe.
There are some strong personalities on this board and I think that's what make up a good one. May God be with each and everyone of you in whatever your endeavors are, because needless to say I think we all need it!!!!

I know you didn't coin this phrase, but I have always found it to be rather odd. Because aren't all Native American Chiefs also considered to be Indians. So isn't saying "Thumper's Corner is a pow-wow where there are all Chiefs and no Indians" slightly akin to saying "The US is a country there are all Presidents and no Americans."? |

Y'all really need to quit! What kind of fool would go in a mans house and insult him. What kind of insecurity demands a person to continue to attempt to front a man on his on porch? Think about it. If you went to someones house and they asked you to do something like not smoke in their house or to watch your language, what disturbed ego would not permit/allow the requested individual to do as asked without some childish,white boyish, smart-ass flipant comeback. I don't understand it! Men don't do that. They are secure enough to move over even when they think they are correct or the request was not to their liking. A man gives respect to others in their own house. I don't think it's hard to do unless those that can not do as they are requested are of a childs heart and mind. It's not hard to do, all you have to do is say, "okay brotha, I don't see your point but I'll respect your spot. Not all this "ya but, you said" and "I didn't say that, why you pickin' on me" and "ya butt, you need to" "yeah but yeah but". sounds like a bunch of B's up in hear!
Y'all obviously enjoy coming here, why is it so hard to do as the man requests without all that smart-ass white boy talk? Huh???
Now watch, somebodies foul ego is taping them on the shoulder right now and so we can expect another "YA BUTT".

Ha! I've wondered not only why a man would do this but a woman, as well. If you've been reading this site a while now you know from time to time some posters forget whose name is listed at the top of the page. They are asked to abide by certain requests, all of which are reasonable, but they keep coming back showing their behinds, and some may even lie low for a few months but then they come back employing the same tactics. |

So there is no need for you to continue the public name calling (especially when I have not cast ANY such aspersions at you).

I’m not saying you concurred with EVERYTHING Carey seemed to assert/infer...but it sure looked like you were seconding at least ‘some’ of it.
Now - and this is why I’m going to begin giving compulsory reading courses around here very soon - it was not that I have a problem with ad hominem attacks per se. It is natural that when things can get a little heated, foks might call each other outtah their names. And, heck, Jmho, where I grew up, ad hom’s (ghetto translation - "da dozens") were considered a delightful recreational sport.

Sure, you can feign aloof indifference to what I proposed and choose to avoid scrapping. That’s actually probably in your best interest.
