This is not a new book, going back to 1998, but if you want to read some great classic essays read this one It was compiled by Toni Morrison and contains Notes of a Native Son Nobody Knows My Name No Name in the Street The Devil Finds Work Others uncollected from 1947-1985 And my personal favories The Fire Next Time (1963) and one that is relevant in this election year Notes on the House of Bondage (1980) I must say that in this time, when everybody is trying to be like a tv pundit, witty, civilized, button down and with the program, these works, which have the attitude of a soapbox street agitator, are unrivaled in their passion and commitment to change. |

Thanks Chris. Although Baldwin's fiction is great, it is his essays are utterly transcendent. There have been few Americans, Black/White/whatever, who have articulated a position or an argument as clearly and potently as the late-great James Baldwin. |

Going To Meet The Man is my favorite book by James Baldwin. I heard that he wrote a book about a white couple in love. Does anyone know the title? |

Is it Another Country? Also, there is a collection of his nonfiction writing called The Price of the Ticket. REK |
