I also like Pearl Cleage. And yes; I have read the book. I enjoyed it. The character, Blue Hamilton was something else. Pearl Cleage is a great storyteller. I also enjoyed her novels; What Looks Like Crazy On An Ordinary Day and I Wish I had a Red Dress. Her novels have a more mature spin to them than a lot of the women's fiction that is currently being published. Happy to see that she's getting more exposure.

Well, I've read What looks like Crazy -- thought it was cute -- suprised that it became an Oprah Pick -- heard the follow-up wasnt that great -- but havent had a moment to read it or the newest. How does GMA Book Club Work - does the previous author choose the next??

i read Some Things I Thought I'd Never Do and wasn't impressed. i preferred the former two - What Looks Like Crazy... and I Wish I Had... - much better. but i agree with bookgirl about Cleage being a great storyteller; however, the latest story wasn't a great one to tell. perhaps if she had taken it in a different angle? dunno, but something seemed to be missing from Some Things... that's my opinion. but i'm not kicking her to the curb and she still gets props from me.

Pearl is truly a gifted writer and she paints pictures with words when telling a story. I read Some Things.... several months ago..and loved it. The book left me wanting more of her writing. Her characters live with me...long after the last page is read...especially in the latest book (Some Things...) If you've not read it...try it. You won't be disappointed.
