How can the Discussion Board become a strong component of an unequivocably excellent site? How do we get to the future we need to be? What weaknesses do you see? What could be here that is missing? Seen another discussion board that has impressive features? What are we missing in our discussions...? |

West_africa, At the risk of misspeaking for others, I think we'd all appreciate YOUR making some worthy contributions to site within its CURRENT manifestation BEFORE you attempt to effect some changes of it. |

West Africa, I give you an "E" for effort in regard to your good intentions. Who knows? Maybe you can be in the vanguard of breathing some new life into this moribund assemblage. |

To ABM: Why would you even need to risk speaking for others ( who can speak for themselves ) ? Speak for yourself, unless they have said you should speak for them ( or us ). You are, by the way, wrong. |

Sorry, but "you don't run my show." Translation: "West Africa" is not here to spin for your appreciation. You live your life. You don't run "West Africa". (Better enough...) |

West_africa: It has been my experience that the board has livened up when someone has started some threads of interest. It is August. There is a heat wave going on. Also, there haven't been many hot books out-- |

There is a button to log out. There should be a button in the upper right-hand corner for "Log In". How long will this take to get done? |

Perhaps you should take your thoughts to the founder - Troy@aalbc.com and not the members if you are suggesting change. However, I am curious as to why you chose this site--is it for pleasure or domination? Linda@aalbc.com |

To: Linda@aalbc.com Some of us are assuming Troy is also a member, and, therefore, is as free as anyone to comment or respond openly.

To: Linda@aalbc.com By the way, Linda, do you have any suggestions for improvements? Another quick note: Messages were, in fact, sent to the email address of Troy Johnson. |

Troy Johnson is the founder and if as you stated you have sent him a quick note then all you have to do is wait for his reply. As far as my suggestion for improvements...a button to delete messages that ask annoying questions such as yours that periodicly clutter up the boards. |

Call me what you may. But you are not the first to come to this site and immediately start needing things to be set up or followed due to your personal needs. Why is it so difficult to use the forum for what it was intended...a discussion of literature? Will your suggestions for improvement benefit that need? |

One way the board could improve would be to have a policy of inviting suggestions and comments on improvements by participants. A policy establishes something, and ensures a particular value. |

Who decided things needed to be improved??? All the participants here seem to be OK with the spontaneity and volatility not to mention the intellectual content of the board. That's what makes things live. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. |

I'm rather confused by this thread. It's been suggested several times by many that the 'format' of this board is NOT up to it's participants. The name as well as the email address of the administrator has been given. There is a feedback link at the bottom of the page where you can make suggestions to that person. If I'm not mistaken there is even a thread with suggestions and comments already listed. I agree with many who have already said that the format is okay with them. It's on par with many of the top listservers IMO. The content and conversations are up to it's participants and over the years that I've visited the board, there is usually some interesting thread and conversation to join in. If none of the conversations are of interest to you there is a way to start your own threads and ADD to the excitement, intelligence, bickering or what you have you. You and many others have done this throughout the years. The formatting issues is something that we cannot control. IF you have a suggestion there is a way to email the founder and owner of the group and IF you have the skills to help with these suggestions I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated. ANY board is only as good as it's participants. There are several boards that are rather simple (in design) but full of active members who contribute and keep it going. I don't have any issues with the way things are formatted or run with the board, I lurk and read sometimes, sometimes I put my 2 cents in and have been doing that for 5 years and I believe that AALBC is the premiere board for discussing Black literature on the internet, I know of no other than equals it. Maybe I'm missing your point. Formatting and board run issues should be addressed to the administrators and they have made that easy with clickable buttons found at the bottom of the site. Content and participation is up to those who visit the board and who contribute something MEANINGFUL and interesting to OTHERS (key point here) who may also choose to chime in and discuss the posted topic. AALBC has accomplished those goals via it's initial set-up and maintenance by it's founder and administrators and the many who post interesting topic on the board. Maintaining such a board is probably more a labor of love than some technical experiment. |

West Africa, I see your role in the cast of characters who frequent this site not as that of a moderator or mediator but as a catalyst. Your blatant and ongoing attacks on the intelligence and validity of other posters and the responses this provokes is all it takes to sustain the viability of this board. LOL |

Maybe we can learn a few lessons from recent events in New Orleans. Before that, though, "Cynique": It's interesting that you characterise comments by "West Africa" as attacks even though all of the comments you are referring to are in RESPONSE to insults. You don't seem to have a problem with their comments. In other matters where a person comes forward with force, but incorrect "facts", the person should expect to be corrected. Read back over them and check, if you want.

OK, West Africa, attacks or responses. Whatever. You do have a talent for making people mad by putting them down. I guess it's not what you say, but how you say it. I was just making an observation. I actually find the exchanges rather funny. LOL |
