Hello Crystal, *LOL* Why so hard on my boy EJD?! *big smile* I haven't read his latest one YET. You already know that it's high on my To Read list. I'll let you know when I'm done. |

I’m hard on him because he has potential! If he’d just slow down and write a real story with real characters and stop all that phony designer name dropping and describing every corner everybody turns [although he’s done better with that lately]. I don’t know – those two things plus EVERYBODY being so damn FIONE all the time just bugs me. Other comments were the “G” character wasn’t developed enough and it was kinda slow till the end and then it seemed that he just wanted to finish the damn thing in a hurry. I think I’ll pass on this one.

All: I haven't read his latest either but I feel the same way as Crystal. If he would set his mind to it I think the man could write a good book-- Now--would it sell? |

I read it and it was wordy without content. I was very disapointed and based on the ending, this COULD have been a excellent book. He didnt flush out the characters enough. Too many unanswered questions and I dont know EDJ to be a "sequel" kind of writer so IF I am to assume this book is THE story he left ME high and dry. |

Hello All, I have never read an EJD novel but judging by the New York Times bestseller list, I can tell that he's not hurting by it. I purposely avoided reading his work when I was reviewing for Midwest because my upcoming novel is of the same genre (AA relationships), and I did not want to be influenced by his work. I have noticed that he seems to be cranking out new novels every 6 months or so though. Do you think that his need to satisfy the marketplace twice a year has anything to do with his work not meeting your expectations?

I find any author cranking out books, at such a pace, are usually following a formula. Just make the characters a bit more outrageous (usually to up the ante and given an appearance of not being the same as their previous book), but there's a basic guideline. Another example, of such, are romance novels. You know the ending at the beginning, just have to see how the author will get there. Some of the writers are basically (re)writing the same story over and over -- just a twist, that's different. The same hold for some music artists. Each new recording is basically the same ole thing. |

I loved it and I was expecting the same quality with this book and it was a HUGE let down. If he is going to "MickyD" his work then he needs to at minimum work on fleshing out the characters. |

Hello All, I am half way through Genevieve. My impression of the book so far, and this is the first time I had ever thought this, no less say it, but, I ain't pleased about Genevieve. I ain't pleased at all. I think baby boy needs to take a couple of years off and then get back into the game, because Genevieve is...well more on that a little later. |
