I just finished reading a book that is certain to change the way we look at Black literature. The title is STEVEN and it is written by a man from Maryland. It's the story of a Black man that is the victim of domestic violence by his girlfriend, Julie. This book is so good that I actually had to read it a second time to be sure I got everything. Oh my God! I was turned on to the book by a co-worker who found out from somebody else and I'm spreading the word. This author put his whole soul into this book and didn't hold back a single thing. The book is available from the publisher right now and I'm telling you, the 14 dollars I paid was a HUGE bargain. I'm still shaking. You all need to check this out, for real. I have the link: http://iuniverse.com/bookstore/book_detail.asp?isbn=0-595-34667-7

I have to agree with this post except to say that this writer has a command of the English language that makes me proud to be African American. He has quite possibly written the best book published in 2005, period. Pulitzer, The Book of The Year Award, NAACP Image Award? They should just give them up now and save everybody the trouble. I read TD Jakes' book, it was good. Steven is...I'm speechless because I have never read anything like it. I am going to read it again. No exaggeration, it is that good. |
