My wife reads a lot of African American books in her book club. While in bed she would discuss the book and we would go over several pages. I found most of these books extremely disappointing. No deeper thinking was required. Nothing was really learned from beginning to end. All false stereotypes of being black were further indulged.
I finally found "Genesis of a Mud Warrior" by Terry W. Broussard, ISBN 0-9762749-1-4 found at http://www.TerryBroussard.com. At last an intelligently written novel you have got to read. I can envision this story being made into a film with Denzel Washington as the main protagonist and James Earl Jones the father.
