In another thread, I've been posting about essayist and travel writer Eddy L. Harris and the reading of his I attended last night. He was introduced last night by writer Faith Adiele, whom I recently met through a small monthly gathering of sisters in the area (you know...eat, drink, bitch about Bush). Faith's work, along with Harris's, is at the top of my Must-Read list. Her non-fiction book "Meeting Faith: The Forest Journals of a Black Buddhist Nun" is about...well, it's self-explanatory! More about Faith at: www.adiele.com The story of Faith's travels to Nigeria to find her father is included (along with two other people's) in "My Journey Home", a PBS film that "probes America's diversity through...personal histories of buried pasts, mixed heritages, missing fathers and broken dreams." http://www.pbs.org/weta/myjourneyhome/faith/faith_intro_6.html |
