Carey:

I read it and loved it! Carmen reminds me of some women I know, sans the transformation. The plot was engaging, the scenes fast paced, the characters real. (I wanted to claw Mavis's eyes out.)

Let me know when you're ready to discuss.

Hello Schoolin' Carmen fans. Yes, Mavis is not a person you'd like to emulate, that's for sure. She was blinded by her own hatred and resentments. But wait, we probably should pay attention to what we may give away. We'll just "try" to be careful. Hey, before we continue I think I will add what I didn't like about the book to be fair and to show that we are not Kathleen doing the ol' talk to oneself trick. Kathleen would never do that but we've seen plenty.....I mean PLENTY of authors do it, believe me. Anyway, the overall scope of the first part of the book in my opinion was to much, it was overdone. The author didn't give the reader enough respect and should have moved on and focused on the period after her "thang". We quickly seen the type of person she was. If we didn't know that then maybe we would have needed all of it but again, we could have known that by simply reading the jacket or synopsis.

Okay, now that that's out of the way, could you believe that yuck of a man that tried to steal him some. Damn, and the clown ....ahh...."went home"....before he even got in the door *smile*. Then come to find out he had done it before to other women. What a low down snake. What was your biggest surprise? My vote goes to her sister, huh, did that catch you guys offguard? Mavis's dirty lying ass made me want to kick her right up in it.

I'd better stop here and see what y'all have to say.

Thanks Kathleen for a very nice read. Now let's talk about your next book :-)......no shame, no shame at all *lol*. Hush up Thump, I ain't got it like you *big smile*, have you read it yet?

....And another thing, Kathleen did a great job of telling it like it is. You ladies probably know this quite well, most men do not know how to make love. Yeah, they know how to getup, get around or get down on that thang but any fool can jump up and down. How about when ol'boy thought he was doing something when he was smashing Carmen's breast, actually hurting her. See, I love to kiss a women but I am finding out that many men don't truely know how or don't even really try to. Don't get me wrong there are things that are as important if not more but sometimes a women want s to be loved. She wants to be wispered to. She desires to be firmly, yet slowly and softly touched. I saw the late great John Wayne with his racist self kiss a women so hard I thoought he was going to push her lips down her throat. Anyway, ol'boy didn't deserve the koo-koo anyway. The nerve of him trying to represent something that wasn't his. I don't know about y'all but I don't want to feel like I've tricked somebody out of their drawers. I mean, I am going to try to lay my real thang down and hopefull she will crack the door, then get to know me and like the individual that I am. Let's be real, love and sex is and should be a two way street with maturity, understanding and compromise leading the way. That's why I can't understand the crime of rape. What's that about. How does this sound, you're raping somebody and you asked them if everything is all right? Or even this scene: You're on your job and you're working it, then you ask you partner one of those sex moment questions like "what's my name?" and the person looks up ( or down ) and says "I don't know, I am just going to try to remember your face so that I can pick you out of a line-up".

Seriously though, just as Kathleen Cross's book illustrates life can be a struggle, a real mess. Frequently it's not about the money, it's about rather or not you are standing in the line of right and if you will allow someone bigger than you to lead the way!

Thanks Again Kathleen, Shevi and Anita

Ooh I am enjoying this conversation way too much.
I hesitate to jump in, 'cause I don't want to stifle anything or prevent anybody from keeping it real...

Carey... see that's why I love you, 'cause you just blunt as all get out. I see how you might say i spent too much time on Carmen's bi**h side and not enough on her transformation, but i was having so much fun living vicariously through her rotten a&* that I got caught up. :-)

Actually, my editor suggested not lingering in the "ill" part of the story -- which I thought was a good call. And once you know who stepped up and did what needed to be done, what more was there to the story? (trying not to spoil here, can you tell)

Anywayz... Carey I thank you for your opinion, and you'll still get a copy of the next book with my scribble in it.

Anita and Shevi -- You two made my week :-) Thanks for reading a sista's work and for providing feedback. I appreciate it more than words can say.

Your support for this book, should also be expressed at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/0060936452/ref=cm_cr_dp_2_1/00 2-5228289-0501607?%5Fencoding=UTF8&customer-reviews.sort%5Fby=-SubmissionDate&n= 283155

and to do right by thumperscorner.com you could also say something about the board in your review.

Kathleen_cross, considering your movie deal talks, IMO, you very much should be in 'campaign' mode, at a minimum getting your friends, family, and supporters to blow up Amazon.com with supportive messages -- forget about being modest.

You should also be hitting every newspapers, televised news show, and radio show that will be willing to give you good press.

Just my 2.5 billion cents. (smile)

Amitenejah,
Thank you for that post, and for that needed nudge. I have not been out there hyping this novel the way I should be. I did do a reading last night here in L.A., and during the q/a session the question of how readers can be supportive of my novels came up and I asked everyone to submit a review at Amazon (an idea I got from your post)

Since I don't have a movie deal yet, I hesitate to put out a press release about it because as of last friday I now have interest from and am in talks with two film producers, and don't want to give either of them the impression the rights have been sold.

As soon as I do have an actual purchase of rights, (or even an option) on paper, I will hit every place I can think of with that news.

My AALBC fam will be the first to know!
