Hello All, During my impromptu sabbatical, I read Upstate, the debut novel by Kalisha Buckhanon. The book is positively magnificent. Upstate is the story of Antonio and Natasha, two teenagers who are in love and is seperated when Antonio is arrested and convicted of killing his father. The novel is comprised of letters written by the two young lovers during Antonio incarceration. Buckhanon does a splendid job of developing two well defined characters. The novel took me through Antonio and Natasha through youth and both maturity. I can not praise the novel and Buckhanon enough. There have been some comparsions between Upstate and The Color Purple, mainly because both novels are letters. In my opinion that's the only similarity. Upstate is a wonderful piece of literature. I strongly recommend it. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0312332688/aalbccom-20 |
