It might be a little premature to post this, but I had a meeting at the DGA with a producer (Soul Food and Any Day Now) who is interested in the rights to my novel, "Schooling Carmen" for a feature film. The project is being pitched to Halle Berry. All prayers and positive thoughts would be greatly and humbly appreciated.

Kathleen: You got mine. Will this be the first of your novels to be considered for a film? |

Thanks A_womon and Chris ! Chris, the reason I began with "It might be a little premature..." is that I did have two meetings with a producer over a year ago regarding my first novel "Skin Deep," which was being considered for a romantic comedy. (???) Although there are some funny scenes in the book, I can't imagine how badly they would have had to butcher my novel to turn it into a comedy... Because the subject matter is too close to my heart and too easy to get wrong, I'd rather produce Skin Deep myself as a serious independent film than have it turned into something ridiculous. I declined the offer. The recent meeting about Schooling Carmen was much more encouraging. The producer is a black woman who has both produced and written for television and film... and she "gets" the themes in Schooling Carmen. |

Hello Kathleen Of course it's always, ALWAYS a thrill to see you stop by. It's been a while since we've last spoke but you know what they say about the heart growing fonder when your friend is yonder *smile*. Listen Kathleen my friend, my savior, my mentor, my fellow sister of the struggle, I am here to help you. I know there are tons of expenses in creating a movie. Although you probably will not direct the movie, if it does go to the screen, I have a suggestion on how you can tighten up the budget. Are you ready? Okay, one of your casted roles is a done deal. Yep, I can play the part of Pedro! Ahh huh, that's right, all your sleepless nights are over. I am your man. Now of course you might have to interview others like .....what's that guys name.....ahhh...oh yeah, Denzel. Yeah, you probably should give him a call too but I assure you, I am ready to go. But listen, I don't want to give the book away but we might have to do a little re-write because of .....ahh.... Pedro's "position" with Carmen (Halle) and I am sure we can work something out. You know what I was thinking? While I was reading the book I had an image of you. Yes sir buddy, it was your face I saw while reading the book, so maybe the two lead roles are a done deal....huh....what? I can see it now, grammy, Oscars, the red carpet and everythang. What do you think? I know you are not an actress but you diffinitely have skills. Oh yeah, you have a nak for yak, that's for sure and you're lovely. Okay Ms. Cee, hit me when you like and you can use my same private number *LOL*. btw, CONGRADULATION!!! Boy this makes me feel good, I knew you when you were simple Cat, now you're Big Cat or Ms. Cross, the film and book star! What a thrill, what a ride, what a friend. Carey Carey |

Thanks Thumper and Carey. Great things are coming...I can feel it. Carey you definitely got dibs on the Pedro role. I can't see myself as Carmen though -- I might could play Carmen's stand-in/body double based on wardrobe sizes (if you know what i'm saying) but I'm definitely not in Miss Carmen's league in the stunning facial features dept. I will be on that red carpet at the premiere though wearing my gown -- and you know this man.

" It is not premature at all, reaching out to your prayer partners makes sense at any point especially in the beginning (conception). Before the birth of your movie, there must be a pregnancy (lots of painful and necessary growth and development), it makes lots of sense to get prayerful assistance as you carry this baby to term. I will pray for your continued success. |
