Have either of you read the book? Or does what Thumper say goes? Is it possible that you may not share the same sentiment as his OPINION? I read the book..maybe you should read it too. You may possibly feel that Thumper was way off, or you may agree with him completely. Only one way to find out. |

Hi Bookreader I would encourage you to say what YOU thought about the book. That is the purpose of this discussion board. I've not read the book so I can't offer an opinion on it. However I did meet the author and he comes across as a nice guy. As a result, I'd hoped that Thumper would love the book; but alas he did not. If you liked the book tell us why. Perhaps your opinion will encourage someone to check out the book despite Thumper's opinion. Put another way: If you (Bookreader) love the book and Thumper hates it; someone else may be inclined to read the book so that they can see whose opinion more closely mirrors their own. This is how others learn to weigh or value a reviewer's reviews. Sure, I appreciate some people might enjoy the manner and style in which a reviewer critiques a book -- and that is cool too. So tell us, why did you like the book?

Hello all.. happy holidays to you. In response to your question, Troy, I found myself unable to put the book down. Thumper called it slow...that was COMPLETELY false. There was drama on every page. Thumper said that the writing was not good. This also was false. The author did a great and I mean great job of bringing six very real characters to life on paper. We all know one or more of the characters. And the situations they dealt with were very, very real. I know, because I went through something very to similar to the character Shay. Maybe Thumper should do stand up instead of book reviews if he's looking for a laugh. Hopefully the author did not get discouraged by Thumper's way off review. It was a truly entertaining novel. The characters were real. For a male, he did a superb job writing female characters! You should take a chance and read the book. Like I said before, you may or may not like it. But don't let Thumper influence you. He called it a throwback novel and I guess in these street fiction days and times, it is. But it's one that we all can and will always be able to relate to because we all have relationship issues! I know I do!! LOL OK.. that's all for me.. Thumper's review just aggrivated me... I've read others by him and have been equally as annoyed. Maybe you should get other reviewers to balance him out. Happy New Year! |

Bookreader It's obvious you were annoyed by Thumper's review, your take on the book suffered because of it. If you would have simply given your view, likes and dislike, without trying to down Thumper it would have been accepted without scrutiny. Thank you for dropping by. Carey |

Hey hey ya'll, That review was brutal (but entertaining). Though I haven't read the book reviewed there, I can certainly relate to getting to page 100 and wanting to slit my wrists after realizing I have 200 more pages to go. That's one of the main reasons I stopped reviewing fiction. It can be excruciating. Emanuel |

Emanuel Emanuel my man, it's good to see you jump in on this one. But what else should I expect from a reviewer? Btw, I don't think I've read one of your reviews. How about directing us to one of your pieces so that we can get a feeling on your flow, you taste or your rythum. Yeah, how about it. I think I know what I will find but let me take a look. You've always been a straight shooter and I like that in you. Thanks again for you take on the book and review. I just couldn't understand why the other one jumped off like that but I ain't even trying to find out why. I hope the following year finds you knee deep in a ton of money, love and happiness. Okay Carey, Here's a review I did back in October for The Midwest Book Review: Jasminium Jonathan Luckett www.jonathanluckett.com Strebor Books International ISBN 1593090072 $12.00 218 pp. When Taj and Cheyenne met during a trip to Jamaica, they shared a horrible tragedy that would bond them for life. Fast-forward twenty years later and it would appear that both have managed to put the past behind them in order to move on with their lives. Cheyenne is now a promising vocalist who is married to Malcolm, a record producer. Meanwhile Taj is also happily employed and equally happy in love with Nicole, a beautiful woman he calls his soul mate. But a chance encounter between Taj and Cheyenne during the holiday season brings the past into view once more and threatens to damage their love lives permanently. This is the premise of "Jasminium" by Brooklyn native Jonathan Luckett, the author of Feeding Frenzy. As the story unfolds, we discover that Cheyenne's marriage is not as glorious as it appears. Malcolm is a demanding and somewhat abusive husband who seems to care more about his own gratification than his wife. When the mysterious Taj shows up, with his haunting eyes and his own nickname for Cheyenne, the possessive record producer naturally becomes jealous. When Cheyenne refuses to share the past with her husband, it complicates matters further. Taj is just as secretive and aloof when Nicole inquires about Cheyenne. Both Taj and Cheyenne both arrive to the conclusion that they've left unfinished business in Jamaica. Unaware of the each other's actions, they both return to the country for closure. Will the two be able to bury the past that haunts them? Or will they find each other and create a new future together? Luckett is a stylish writer who shows great patience in letting a story unravel, revealing just enough throughout it to keep you longing for more. As a result, the payoff is a well-written, suspenseful, and deeply erotic tale of fiery passion. For example, the author writes: Cheyenne's breasts were firm and upturned; her nipples were emergent like a flower to the sun's radiance. Taj watched her in profile and his breath caught in his throat. As she turned her back to him, the fullness of her spoke to him. The curves of her waist, her long golden legs were magical. And when she pivoted like a ballerina and turned to face him, he saw the patch that covered her sex. Taj was overwhelmed with unfamiliar, intense sensations. Muy Caliente! "Jasminium" is the type of book lovers should take turns reading to one another while sipping white wine and listening to John Coltrane in the background. But what else would you expect from an author published by Zane's Strebor imprint, the number one African-American, erotica publisher in the business? You should expect nothing but the best, which is exactly what this book delivers. Highly Recommended |

Hello All, Bookreader: I see that you were "annoyed" by my review. It's obvious that we disagree. You wrote, "Or does what Thumper say goes?". I reply, And the problem with that would be...what? *eyebrow raised* I don't have a problem with that sentiment and fully believe it is one you should adopt as soon as humanly possible. Because...*psst* come closer to the screen cuz I don't want nobody else to hear, I got something to tell ya...because there is nothing wrong with having GOOD taste! *big smile* |
