Greetings all and Happy New Year!!! I recently finished reading the re-released version of Rising by Darnella Ford (Jan 2003) and was quite disappointed with the ending of the book. Well, yesterday my daughter pulled a few books off my bookshelf and the self-published version of Rising fell out! I knew I had it, but couldn't remember where it was, so I was excited and yep, I picked it up and flipped to the end. IT BLEW ME AWAY!!! So, I spent the next two hours re-reading the self published version. Has anyone read either and if so, please share your comments. -Tee |

Hello Tee, I'm back from my holiday vacation and am ready to jump into the fray once again. *big smile* Rising: I love the book. It had a couple of missteps, and I didn't care for the ending at all. It was wrapped up a little to sugary and neat for me. I haven't read the self published edition. If Ford changed her ending to the version I read, it might have been a mistake. |

Welcome back Thumper! I wondered where you were. Now, as for Rising...you MUST find a self-published version of this book because it is AWESOME!! I enjoyed the new one but because of some of the plot inconsistencies, I couldn't rant and rave about it as I am the SP version. I've talked to Ford about it and she said that it was felt that the original ending was too graphic, but as I told her, sometimes a book needs a graphic or dramatic ending. And I do believe that Rising needed one. I'm sending my copy to a friend, but if you want to borrow it when she's done, let me know...or if you want to talk about what's different in the self-published version (quite a few things are), hit me up directly. -Tee |

Hello Tee, Thanks for the offer. *smile* Go ahead and tell me what the ending for the self-published edition. I loved the first part of the book, but the second part wasn't hitting on anything. I was ready for a confrontation which would have made the story more real and dramatic, but Ford took the story in another direction that left me feeling like I was sitting on a wet toilet paper. That's really too bad, for the first half was awesome. I wonder how Ford felt the original ending was too graphic? Too graphic for who, I wonder? |

I'll email you...LOL. I'd hate to put it on the boards and throw folks off who haven't read it. But it wasn't her idea to change it, it was the publishing company. ROFL...I just realized you said wet toilet paper. I just wanna know...did you say "What the hell? Ridge did what? How'd he do that?" Those were my words...I was PISSED. -Tee |
