Merry Christmas to all. Yesterday while ordering some items from Amazon.com, I found out that Cornel West is the editor of a new edition of this 1903 classic. This is a rare, but powerful novel that has gone virturally unknown by many. In fact, I came across it in a sociology course during the 1980's. It has been out of print for years and could only be found used. In fact, I remember lending my copy to a friend and never getting it back. Fortunately, I was able to locate another copy; needless to say, it does not leave my shelf. I hope members of Thumper's Corner will read this wonderful novel and offer feedback via this medium. I plan to do a fresh reading of it so I can compose a decent post about it in the future. REK |

I have the publication date wrong. It was first published in 1899. |

I read the book back in the 70's. I remember reading that it was an early literary expression of black nationalism; but I might be confusing it with a Martin Delaney novel published around that time if not earlier. I would have to reread it to offer any real comments. |
