I picked this up at the bookstore yesterday and it is excellent. I would highly recommed this book if you have young adults on your holiday list. Proceed with caution it deals with the sensitive subject of rape. Very tastefully in my opinion.

Thanks for the recommendation. My friend teaches a program for At-Risk Black and Latina girls and she asked me for a list of good books. I am so out of the loop on that but I wanted to give her at least five to start with. I also have "I Hadn't Meant To Tell You This", and "Toning the Sweep". I'd love any other recommendations you have in this area.

Peace

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is an excellent read. Even though the author is not AA, the story is good and deals with female friendships at a crucial age.

Melanin Sun is a good young adult novel also.

I did not know about this novel. Williams-Garcia's Like Sisters on the Homefront is one of my students' favorite novels. By the way, Jacqueline Woodson has a new novel just released about two weeks ago. The title is Locomotion. I have not had time to read it, however, knowing Woodson, it's a terrific read. REK
