Hello Chris, Thanks for the article. Those are some of the truest words Crouch has ever spoken. He was correct on white folks and the music black folks created in spite of the racism in this country. I'm not a fan of Crouch's. I disagree with him on a number of things. Don't get started on that novel he wrote, Don't The Moon Look Lonesome, which should have had an axe taken to it. But as far as the white music establishment sitting in judgement over who's who and what's what, he's right. How else did Elvis become king? But, did he deserve what he got? Nope. Am I surprised, hell no. I would say that maybe he's suffering from Clarence Thomas-itis, though. *LOL* |

Crouch is saying the same things he has always said. The column that got him canned is not much different from some of his past columns.Crouch has always "rapped" black [where's that come from]; you may not like what he has to say but he's no Ken Hamblin or Shelby Steele. Hell even in his nationalist days he was an acerbic, critical thinker. Unfortunately Crouch's definition of jazz has become more narrow as he's aged and all he can see is Wynton Marsalis [who has become dull, dull, dull as time passes]. Still Crouch did not deserve to be canned. Lets just hope he doesn't use his time to write another lame novel. |

Where do you get this information about Crouch hating black woman? I'd like to know; because of all the things that he's written I've never got that impression. Granted he does not like the fiction of Toni Morrison , but that's an opinion he is allowed to have, I hope. |

Let me tell you something. Stanley Crouch wrote an essay during the O. J. Simpson trial for the L.A. Times (this is before 9 black women let O.J. get off)...where he viciously attacked black women and claimed that he just knew that having all them BLACK women on the jury...would be O.J.'s doom. Them women was gone send O.J. to his death!! According to Crouch's article. During interviews on The Charlie Rose Show and in SO MANY books he's written...not just his lima-bean brained attacks on Toni Morrison, but in countless books that he wrote...he ALWAYS expresses his proud "detachment" from black women and his "All-American" disregard for them. I wasn't the least bit surprised when he came out with that novel featuring the White man's queen yet again. Stupid black men are hopeless. Like so many black women, I can't stand that fat ugly slug. If I ever met him I'd pour salt all over his head and wait for him to melt. Put his crusty behind right in the barrel with Bryant Gumble, John Edgar Wideman, Montel Williams, O.J., Sidney Poitier, Ward Connerly, Clarence Thomas, Shelby Steel, Thomas Sowell, Armstrong Williams. I could fix me a picnic basket and sit crosslegged (like an INDIAN!) at the lynching ceremony for these worthless n.....s Despise Stanley Crouch. Cain't stand him.

I don't know if the irascible Stanley Crouch hates sistahs or not. But Crouch often strikes me as 1 of those brothahs who were likely the first guys killed during a race riot, because they foolishly believed they could cleverly persuade "good white folks" not to hang 'em. |

Two year ago, at the Harlem Book Fair, I saw Crouh sporting a sister and she was problem the finest, classiest looking sister I saw that day -- and I saw hundreds and hundres of sisters that day. I find Crouch a very entertaining speaker. If you take everything they say seriously you will be hurt, or angered and fail to enjoy the message or learn form what he has to say. I don't agree with everything he has to say -- but I can say that for virtually everyone -- even myself from time to time. Snake (Sista): You put Stanley Crouch, Bryant Gumble, John Edgar Wideman, Montel Williams, O.J., Sidney Poitier, Ward Connerly, Clarence Thomas, Shelby Steel, Thomas Sowell, and Armstrong Williams in the same category? They are all very differnt people. Do you hate them for the same reason? If so what is it?

Cynique-- That "cardinal rule" is not a rule of mines. You continue to ignore my posts and be totally ignorant. My brother, Cecil, who I love dearly is married to a WONDERFUL white woman. I just named for you several Black male celebrities that I LOOOVE who are married to white or non-black women. WHAT....darl'n...are you talking about? You sound like a witch. Just admitt you're wrong and look at all the men that I did say I hated (most are conservative republicans, for one thing--many have sold out the community in millions of ways)...and then..by the way... WHAT IF I DID hate them for being married to White women? THen what? You really need to put yourself in perspective and READ what I said and stop putting words in my mouth. CAUSE I L LOOOOOOOVEEEE me some Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Richard Pryor, Derek Luke, Taye Diggs, Ving Rhames, BILLY DEE...absolutely love those good black men who STAND UP for the black community, irrespective of who they chose to love. It ain't about that...but you jumped to a conclusion, and worse, you and Susan unfairly made accusations that were unfounded. Which is yalls stock in trade. SnakeGirl, concerning your list of men that you loathe--your list is the same as mine. I pretty much dislike those same men as well. Here on my job, most of the black women I know dislike those same men. Great list you made of the ones you adore, though. Ignore Susan and the other woman. They sound like working girls defending of their pimp. If you dislike someone, for whatever reason, that's your right, but I did notice that a lot of the men you love are married to white women. Yes, ol cynical Cynique remains skeptical about "Snakola Girl", wondering how somebody who holds down a full-time job at a publishing company and works as a stripper by night seems to have so much time to inundate the board with the typically long posts that contain certain buzz words, and espouse the familiar arguments about "saving our babies" - clues that point to a "former" female poster who supposedly went into exile. LOL. But, as we all agree, it doesn't matter because all the male posters seem to be getting a charge out of it. And we do have to give this chamelon her just due for being so creative, for being able to take on these different personas. It's a tribute to her skills as an author who is apparently very good at crafting characters. BTW, I've never thought Troy and Thumper were one in the same. They come across as 2 entirely different personalities. Where is all y'alls intuitiveness???? |

John Edgar Wideman, to me, is promoting the destruction of our race by using his theory that there is NO RACE...as an excuse to not produce black children and procreate his own people. He claims there's no such things as race (all humans are equal)...but then like the typical progeny of FORMER SLAVES (slavestock) he goes on to choose a White prototypical lifestyle (complete w/white wife and children even LESS BLACK than he was--his seed becoming weaker, as his mixed children also choose Whites...but all the while claiming that there is no such thing as "race"). IF THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS RACE...then why, Mike Evans, is everyone casually trying to breed the BLACK half of the race off the planet? Why is WHITE the only choice that "intelligent intellectuals" can make? Why are Black PEOPLE good for sex, dancing, entertainment, good jokes--but not good enough to give birth to again. WHY is the black man in America becoming WHITER and WHITER with each passing generation? It's the mark of a coward and a SLAVE. A sub-idiot inferior being who curses his MASTER...but then has only one goal...which is to BECOME his master. John Edgar Wideman, with all his RHETORIC, is just another weak punk slavestock representative who couldn't STAND UP as HIMSELF in front of the white man...his message is "infected" with the blood of self-hatred and self-denial. He's a brilliant writer (a genius writer in my opinion)...but he's little more than a modern day Booker T. Washington. I have no respect for him, ultimately. I respect WHITE MEN MORE than him. But I do not respect WHITE MEN more than say... Quincy Jones (who also married white)..but who feeds the black people a positive image of themselves, one inwhich they are encouraged to embrace their BLACKNESS...Quincy is also great friends with TONS of black women--he ALWAYS dated White--but he has been there for the black community in times of need. HE writes songs to lift their spirits and he speaks well of us (as a race--a Clan). His children have gone to Africa many times and been involved with our people's true culture and heritage. They have shown respect to their ancestors by visiting Africa and being (genuinely and sincerely) respectful of the beauty and soul of REAL BLACK people--who are Human Beings--just as human as the rest of the human race. John Edgar Wideman makes the argument that "we don't really need to exist--we could just as well be white".......and Quincy Jones make the case that "black is beautiful and is a flower/seed that is irreplaceable". He agrees with the covenent of the Kings that--"It MUST exist". The "tulat" (penis/house) and the bloodberry (river of blood--the nile/menstral cycle/harvesting African children) being the alpha and the omega as Prophet Ciisa (Jesus Christ) instructed his fellow Black Africans in the time of the Falasha festival at Napata. I consider Wideman a glorified "nigger". Jones an "African son". The color of the wife (or husband) is not so important if the respect for Black Humanity and its rightful place in the universe remains intact (although, children get their "heritage and identity" from their mothers, for as the Ethiopian double dutch chant goes--"mothers matter a lot..fathers matter not"). SLAVESTOCK (whether they reside in Africa or the U.S. or Germany or Brazil) never understand this--because they're disconnected and LOST. Does that answer your question? **Now don't ask me anything else, because race is a subject I don't like discussing with people who can only speak ENGLISH.

An Observation That Kola & Snake have stong opinions (as most posters)is their single common denominator. Otherwise they appear as separate enties evidenced by the following observations: STYLE-manner of thoughts inn language that expresses individuality. Kola'sost appear more focused/organized & attempts to persuade by reasoning from an historiical & world view of issues. Snake's post appear more terse and flippant (with some exceptions). She presents her opinion without an effort to persuade. ------------- TONE-the quality of thought in which the writer invites the reader to share their attitude and point of view. Kola's tone is more conciliatory if the reader will examine and accept current issues from her historical, personal and world view perspective. SNAKE's tone is, I don't care what you think, this is my opinion, take it or leave it. Snake appears not to seek approval, agreement or persuade, such as Kola. Much more could be said, but it's more than I want to chew---hope that I said enough for you to follow my line of thinking. |

Hi Thumper! All is well, still lurking in the shadows of AALBC. My reading, these days, is limited to short stories and audio--whatever is available at the library. Don't enjoy novels any more, but stay informed about AA lit. through AALBC. In Feb. ordered through AALBC, Louis Edwards, Oscar Wilde Disc9vers America & N-a novel thought it would interest me, but have not rread a single word. Have you read either of these books? Interesting that you mentioned Yerby. Several months ago saw one of his novel during one of my forays into a thrift store. Didnt buy it because I don't collect anymore and did not know anyone who might appreciate it. Sorry I did not think of you, will remember the next time. Have seen only 3-4 books by AA's during my forays, dont know why I still go through old books. Sese |
